Fucking incredible track, so proud of Grey for coming this far. Sounds nothing like their previous work but I love the dark vibe, Indian instrumentation and creepy sound design. Camila Cabello has been killing it lately too, definitely one of the more interesting pop artists on the radio rn. Hope this gets big!
Truth be told, it's better than any of their recent releases. They we on the cusp of true greatness back with Papercut and True Colors, but their sound got lost in translation after that and I haven't felt that mind-blowing sound from them recently. This is a little more innovative, more experimental, could be a sign of a better, more memorable future. It's up to them and I guess if they want to pay the bills, but I'm still holding out they have not lost their magic yet.

I expected this tune to be another starving (which is a very fun song in its own right but nothing compared to papercut/disarm you etc), but no. this song is weird, gritty and absolutely wild. not as complex and energetic as I had hoped but certainly a lot more off-kilter and experimental. unlikely but I hope they work with camila again, her vocals fit very well with their style. her song "real friends" even sounds like an acoustic version of a grey track, would love to hear a remix of it from them
also have you heard their EP? very diverse collection of tracks, includes two very angry and high-energy ones that resemble their 2015 songs. I wish they'd make more breaks stuff along the lines of disarm you and adrenaline but as long as they're still keeping hold of the complex, percussive style they started off with im happy. even their simpler songs have these tiny details to them that make them a bit more special (ex: messenger sound in the one more night remix, the phone line/muffled voice in the you're not there remix, elevator sound in crime).
Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the EP. I know pumping out the incredible tracks like Paper Cut or Disarm You is realistically not possible, especially when you start so high, but the EP felt too recycled of other pop styles. Their complexity of percussive sounds and cleanliness are still there for sure, but that spark of inspiration seemed to die out. I know they are getting big voices to work with now, but in a way I think that's limiting them. They aren't afraid to try crazy new things, the labels just won't let them. Of course they seem happy producing for big acts but I can't imagine a track like their remix of Disarm You ever being played on radio. It's too electronic, too weird for the average radio listener.
