He was a superb tenor who did not have nearly as much recognition as others during the time of his prime. I was fortunate to have heard him singing the tenor part in the Verdi Requiem with the Chicago Symphony and Solti conducting. Leontyne Price was the soprano and Janet Baker the mezzo and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the bass, but he was just as good. It was one of the great musical experiences of my life.

Another glimpse of this wonderful and under appreciated tenor. where were the recording companies through all his glory years? Surely he ranks at least as highly as the much loved and recorded Jose Carreras?
@@Ettoredipugnar he was I saw and heard Jose C. in Calif. in 1974 singing Tosca with sop. Nilsson and it was so beautiful then he was similar then to a young GDS who I saw first time in 1959 also in Tosca but with Tebaldi in Milan with my family on a family holiday trip.
Could you please credit the orchestra and conductor? Opera wouldn't be possible without an orchestra and the conductor conducts the orchestra, chorus, soloists, and in fact the entire opera.
How was it? the PD top notes I mean? He was 34 then, so should have been fine for it. Sadly Richard Tucker had just learned the role but died in Jan. 1975 before he was going to sing it , however he did record the aria in the mid. 1960's for Columbia LP records, I heard it on you tube, but not Domingo's version.

@@ettoredipugnar6990 Wow! I saw Tagliavini in concert in the early 1960's! A very fine lyric tenor, with PD it depended when you saw him, I did early and later both, saw him in the very early 1970's when he was only 30 years old and later, never was a favorite of mine ever, but he was a good singer, even without a decent top C and a tight high B often later, that said I've seen lots far less then he was, I'm not Neil Shicoff but know him and his wife very well, anyhow after over 63 years of opera going in many cities and Italy I can say I saw most all of the very top singers in my day, and in house, Tucker, MDM and Corelli, GDS Pav. Schipa to name a few, and also Bjoerling in 1958 -- and both Tebaldi and Callas of course, so many to list, not possible here, but the best way to know a voice is in house!
Domingo only sang in "Carmen" at the Met. in 1975 and only 4 performances of that and nothing else that year at the Met. Check your dates for that opera and Domingo?

He outsung Domingo and Carreras for years, a truly Beautiful Virile Tenor voice .

Listen to Giorno di Pianto by Mario Filippeschi or Franco Bonisolli.
Two real eroico/spinto tenors with fabouloses acuti!!!

RCA and Decca had Domingo and Pavarotti. Before he sang the heavier roles and before he was sick Carreras was exquisite with Donntinzetti an Rossini

Exatamente!!!A mídia e os grandes produtores nunca lhe deram o respeito e as oportunidades que ele mereceu
I like him even better in his Forza aria live in Paris, sings very well all the time.
Just so pure brass, sounds so disciplined and italian style, but it is so hard to get more materials on him?!!! Do you know his volume on live set?
Gorgeous!
