Duncan Trussell On How To Take The Best Ride Through Life | Aubrey Marcus Podcast

- This is one of my all time favorite conversations with comedian, philosopher, and fellow psychonaut Duncan Trussell. I can’t think of a better time to bring this conversation back to the collective. Duncan Trussell and I discuss how psychedelics are challenging the stories about how to heal trauma, the reality of how small our fears are in comparison to the divine, and the illusion of control that we all love so much.
Don't miss the incredible part about how the placebo effect works and why people have been taking psychedelics and plant-based medicine for thousands of years. We also discuss why people are into microdosing, its effects and what the potential ramifications are for people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Timestamps:
3:25 The Placebo Effect & experiences with psychedelics, & purging
9:46 Challenging Western Medicine with plant-based medicine
26:40 Finding the appropriate message for the right person
30:20 Benefits of microdosing and dealing with PTSD
37:15 Re-setting your brain: quitting cigarettes with psilocybin
47:55 Importance of letting go and not holding grudges
50:22 The illusion of control and the fear of losing control

Strangers are just friends we haven't met.❤

Psychedelic is the answer to most severe anxiety and depression. The use of magic mushrooms completely helps one get over depression and makes you feel like yourself.
I’ve been thinking to use psychedelics for my anxiety and depression.
Anyone know where I can source them?
Is he on Instagrm?
Yes he is… dr_derekk
I just had my first experience with penis envy, it was really great! I loved it.
Never had a bad trip with DMT
Duncan has walked the dark alley and came back to make jokes about it.
I love that man.
Trussell isn't a man, he's an overgrown drug test lab rat.
Every politician should go through a psychedelic experience before becoming one. What a better place the world would be
Then they wouldn't want to be politicians!
@Toxic Potato I think your theory explains a lot
Toxic Potato Toxic Potato I wanted to go into politics, but even as a child I understood there were barely any improvements, it’s just a headache, filled with big babies. But back to your point hell yes, you have to be narcissistic to push through all the other psychos, Earth is psychologically lost man I swearrrrr

I was at a party once on lsd and realized that my body had a perfect design, a perfect way in which to stand, balanced with gravity and everything, i chose to allow myself to be that way, all of my ills dissolved in what i imagine were seconds. i'd had historically very tight shoulders, back pain etc. moments after this feeling washed over me, i saw a friend dancing down a hill towards me, she felt obviously very happy and wanting to make others feel better she offered me a massage, touched me a little and said "oh you dont need anything" we just smiled at one another and she went off to find someone who did need her. i think, if we stop inhibiting our perfection, it will be there, where we left it, before any service interruption (learned behavior)
Mine was this fragile crystalline i felt like instead of a precious heirloom of perfect form that you would never want to scratch or tarnish but instead of carrying it and worrying about dropping it, instead my legs were the stand propping up this fragile crystal perfection, i became obsessed with feeling like i might break or chip away. I finally propped myself upin a field and looked at the sky but it was sheer terror marveling at my crystalline body while simultaneously feeling extremely fragile and breakable.
this has to be in season 2 of The Midnight Gospel :)))
he should do an episode with hamilton morris...woops, just gave him a gem

I only know a few people that has conversations as unique and genuine as this. This is why I listen to Duncan's podcasts, my daily social interactions leave my brain anorexic sometimes and I need food for thought.
I wish this was the type of conversation I 'd have whenever I step out of my house. I feel my spirit being nourished.
Kenny Fernández Same here! Listening to both of their podcasts certainly helps. Been listening to Aubrey and Duncan from the start and that's the closest I can get to having these type of conversation in my own "bubble".

Have you listened to Jordan Peterson?
I mean Peterson is a serious approach. What I dig about Duncan amd Aubrey is that they are also like children. Playful and excited.

That bit about translation is really important. I tried to show my dad an episode of “The Midnight Gospel” and he hated it, just completely went over his head. Idk how to explain these concepts to other people in a way they’ll accept but I understand completely. I wish people were just a little more open to changing/opening their minds.
The only people who enjoy that content and actually understand this stuff are those who have gone down the same... rabbit holes?... we have. You have to want it.. To the average person, people like Aubrey and Duncan sound like drug addicted degenerates. They've been condition to believe this their entire life. But there's an awakening happening.
Maybe "Midnight Gospel" isn't your Dad's language of understanding. When I am having a hard time sharing with someone I try to bring the ideas to them on their level. Find something that he relates to and start from there. He might not ever enjoy or understand the medium that is "Midnight Gospel" but if you find a thread of commonality between his perspective and the window that you're looking at the world from the two of you may be able to see some of the same colors. And that may be a good start. Good luck friend.
You can't make or accept your views. You can only find like minded people.

Reading and hearing about that 'pesky little side-effect' was a pretty large influence in my personal decision to separate from the military.
My first time watching this dude’s podcast. I’m glad the host is intellectually capable of conversing with the one and only Duncan Trussell on an even playing field. He can hold his own, and is reminiscent of the legendary Joe Rogan.
"THIS ISN'T PUKE, IT'S PURGE" is the best comedy special title of all time :)
If this form of healing takes hold of society, it won't be for a long time. Psychedelics really do take a leap of faith.
Him talking about video games 20 minutes in reminds me of how Dark Souls helped teach me to deal with stress better.
My dudes! I spend all day almost every day listening to some of the most brilliant people in the world converse and debate one another, and yet this conversation in 56 minutes just blew those talks out of the fucking water! This is my first exposure to Aubrey Marcus, excellent host. I wish other hosts knew more about the "alternative" information that Aubrey does. Our society has such a split personality disorder created by our media and I see within Aubrey a well rounded common sense approach to life who disregards ego and approaches situations from a learning perspective vs. a struggle/fight perspective.
I love the the talks here are so real. I hate when my mother in law, husband, and everyone around gets so offended when I say fuck, or other words... thank you for being yourself and not using horrible fancy words to explain something that we all need to know. Thank you.

36:10 I never noticed but Duncan DOES indeed have a raspy lesbian voice. That was some great self deprecating humor.
Aubrey is a conversationalist beast of a man 👊🙏🤘
The world is definitely a better place because of "The Diaz Model".
“Once a thing works, everyone does it.” So true
Duncan has a very inspirational energy about him, a very passive nature, and I wish people would just sit and listen to what he has to say rather than just "yep" "yep" "yep" as he talks, and add some uneducated witty remark to what he's saying, showing they don't perceive the depth of what he's trying to communicate. I don't host a radio show, so I don't know what it takes to entertain people; therefore am not in the know.
Good conversation to listen to however.
Aubrey is very insightful, and is inspirational also, I think sometimes his strong masculine energy gets on my nerves sometimes though haha :P
One of the most intereristing interviews ever!
I love Duncan and his voice, sometimes I just worry he isn't strong enough to follow the good in all he does and has definitely dabbled in some of the Black "Magick"..... He seems obsessed with Crowley.
Aint nothing wrong with it. But it can be hard times lol
Two of my favorite people together! 🙌
If I remember correctly, most shamans say that DMT is like a feminine spirit, and they say that the spirit showed their ancestors the caapi vine to make ayahuasca. Which who knows it could have been trial and error, but its pretty uncanny that its the only way to make ayahuasca orally active.
Uncanny for sure . How did they figure that one out?? There's so many different kinds of plants, herbs. That I believe that the Spirit DID show them how to make it
What a great chat! Aubrey seems very rooted in positivity.

Great things take time!
Around 13:00, talking about whether the age of the vine is important, and whether the rate of regrowth is fast enough to keep up with demand... I’ve actually heard the opposite of what Aubrey says. The age of the vine does matter for potency/effect, and old-growth vines are over harvested, and there is in fact a shortage of the vine altogether.
“”With every passing day these plants are disappearing, there is a shortage. They never brought to us thin ayahuasca, before they only brought thick ones, we used to just work with that.” The thickness, related to the age, is one of the variables that determine the quality of the resulting medicine. And although the vines are thinner, prices have not stopped rising.”
Here’s a link to the page that has the above quote:
kahpi.net/harvesting-ayahuasca-exploitation/
Hey cool! Thanks!
So I think a lot of the vines, perhaps most of them, that are flooding this new market and demand is probably individuals just grabbing them wherever they can. If you are to go into very very remote places in the jungle I’m sure there are hotspots, and plants that will never be able to get eradicated by humans. Terrence McKenna and his wife, for example, has a research facility in Hawaii where they have samples, a museum, a research institute, and small gardens of near all the psychedelic plants found so that they may forever be protected. The Amazon is too big for this plant to really disappear. There will be fluctuations of course, especially for individuals (like one dealer will sell better weed than the next perhaps) but like he said, a huge part of it is cultivation. Hopefully, especially soon, we can get more things in place to protect them, like Terrence McKenna had started.
Tanner D McIntosh I like your optimism. Maybe so. However, I have heard that the threats to the Amazon are pushing the deforestation to an irreversible tipping point, where the ecosystem is currently on the verge of collapse, and it will, i think, turn into a grassland and lose all of the biodiversity. When I heard about this, the prediction was that with this trajectory, it may be around 2021 that we reach this point.
Brazil has sped up the deforestation. Bolsonaro encouraged it and then we had all of the Amazonian fires that could be seen from space, which I believe were lit by farmers as a show of support for bolsonaro’s plan to bring industry/agriculture to the Amazon.
It’s a complex interconnected set of economic/social/global problems causing this mentality. But it scares the hell out of me. Partly due to my interest in the culture around Ayahuasca, but primarily just as a human of Earth, I really really don’t want to see that day come to pass.
90MysteriumFascinans you’re absolutely right, it must be happening quicker than I like to believe it’s happening. In that sense I understand completely
Tanner D McIntosh it’s pretty scary :( I can’t say that I’ve figured out how to act appropriately as an individual to contribute to the solution. Mostly because all my life has been lived in an individualistic society, with social isolation and alienation and apathy. But it’s like we’re definitely running out of time, and the only way humanity can achieve what we need to is to believe we can and will do something to save ourselves. I think I need a more ‘enlightened’ emotional response to enable actual action.
I won’t lie I’d love to see Dakota of earth and Duncan trussell talk

love these two guys, its people like this that will change the world, like they said about relaying the message to thier own network of friends this is how the message will spread. What i like about them is they deliver the message of psychedelics and thier potential in such a humble and funny way which is coherent to the average man on they street to a point where it becomes understandable and resonates. Not like a politician who will speak in such a rhetoric fasion with words that only are receptive to a certain level of intellect. I myself am taking part in my first ayahuasca ceremony this year and because of me "waking up" to the fact there are other layers of consciousness that will allow us all to live a better life i have noticed its a lonely path to walk. I often feel nobody understands me and like Terrence Mckenna said "Sanity in this society is a certain level of alienation"
