This was their first album, released December 1983. Seems a little dated now, but this was the cutting edge back in the day. Love me some Slayer.

This is from an album that just must be played from beginning to end.

Slayer even self-produced this album, Show No Mercy, using the money Kerry King borrowed from his father and the savings of Tom Araya while he (Araya) worked as a respiratory therapist.

Try the song South of heaven, I think you will appreciate more their style there, it’s an album extremely underrated at the time of realise but now is a total classic.

This is the best Slayer album, catchy songs, their music became more boring with each subsequent album.

Reign in Blood is the best album, there absolutely no question. Before you get mad Show no Mercy is my second favorite Slayer album, next to Reign in Blood. Their first album is heavily HEAVILY influenced by New Wave of British Heavy Metal music, therefore it doesn’t have a lot of the originality that some of their subsequent albums had. I mean they essentially pioneered extreme metal with those albums, whereas Show no Mercy blends in relatively well with many releases of the time-period

Heheh this was raw Slayer back before they changed it up to become more melodic. Basically this is a 17 year old spastic energy vs a 30 year old stable strength.
You are looking for the 30 year old stable strength to connect to is all.
You'd like most, if not all, of the South of Heaven album that came out in 1988 and the majority of what came after.

Great analysis, and to be fair, these songs aren't the ones for someone of your taste to connect to, from their discogs. The entire South of Heaven album might be a great place to start

I'd recomend Seasons In The Abyss from the album Seasons In The Abyss and also Disciple from the album God Hates Us All. I´ve been a Slayer fan since 1987 and I never dug show no mercy

Knowing what you like, I think you'd really dig Seasons in the Abyss, Angel of Death, Dead Skin Mask, South of Heaven, and Divine Intervention.

You should dig a little deeper into Slayer, one of the best live dvds ever resleased is Still Reigning

BLASTING OUR WAY THRU THE BOUNDARIES OF HELL. NO ONE CAN STOP US TONIGHT. WE TAKE ON THE WORLD WITH THIS HATRED INSIDE! THEY ARE THE REASON WE FIGHT! lol. Sorry. Love those lines.
I would be tempted to say you either like Slayer or you don't. But this gentleman seems to appreciate some aspects of the music. For me, I was about 12 when I first heard this in like 1991. I called it my metal phase which was sparked by Metallica's Enter Sandman and probably my developing teenage angst. Lol. I'm not sure what I heard first, Slayers Seasons in the Abyss video or this album which my brother happened to have. But I loved it from the beginning. This is why at the time I called Slayer my favorite band. They are still my favorite metal band but Pink Floyd became my favorite at some point during my teenage years. But no one beats Slayer when it comes to fast guitar solos.
This and Seasons in the Abyss are my two favorites. Reign in Blood was apparently their most popular and don't get me wrong, Angel of Death is one of their best songs and I also love Raining Blood and the song before: Postmortem. I would recommend perhaps a song from Seasons in the Abyss: Dead Skin Mask, the title song, or maybe Skeletons of Society. I don't necessarily write off all the albums after Seasons, but that was definitely their peak(and coincided with me becoming less of a metal head.). 213 from their next album and God Hates Us All are some of the songs I like a lot post Seasons. Avoid their 2nd album, Hell Awaits, it's mostly incoherent crap, just a mere attempt to be faster than their first album.
On a side note, Slayer doesn't just sing about the devil and evil. They are also sing about other happy subjects like war and serial killers😆.

For a different take on Slayer, try anything off Divine Intervention. About 10 years after the earlier stuff you have reacted to. 213 or Killing Fields worth a listen.

I love Slayer but this album is ...meh. If the speed thing is not doing it for ya try some of these cuts from Slayer.....South of Heaven, Spill the Blood, Mandatory Suicide,Dead Skin Mask, Seasons in the Abyss, Expendable Youth.

What you are probably disconnected with in this early Slayer stuff is the production value.... low budget recording.... listen to South of Heaven

Too fast for me. I like to hear separate notes in music. And I don’t like this ‘singing’. Metallica is fast too but I hear separate noties and the singing is good to great. I’m more a progressive and symphonic rock and metal fan.
Even Motörhead is morello my liking.
