Hey, Jeff Becerra of Possessed here. You are literally the first Christian to acknowledge our lyrics for what they are. I get death threats by both Christians and Muslims on the regular and I feel like screaming out l, “”Listen, read”. This first album is certainly very basic and serves as the foundation to all of our subsequent albums. It’s not ok that Christians as a whole are blind to everything is not pleasing to their eye. At which point are we not the meek? Judge not
This is awesome that Jeff himself replied!
Assuming you are The Real JB
Pretty cool you chimed in on this
You all sounded great
Nice that you made it back
Vin and Sori need to Prospect the Club
As you stated
“...we just wanted to be super-fast and heavy. We wanted to be the fastest heaviest most satanic band in the world that was our main goal.”
Hey jeff i saw you guys i think in 86' l.a. olympic auditorium. After u played i think you were in the audience and some suicidal tendicies were trying to jump you..and you pulled out a knife and they backed off..remember that?
You rule Jeff. I was hearing the last album and it totally rules.
@@middleearthltd Facts! I know I can be ruthless and critical of “christians” because of the long history and misuses of Christianity. From the Inquisition, Crusades, Witch Trials, etc.To this day, we send government funded “Christian” missionaries into counties we are invading before the military. To quote an intelligence officer I know, “We take their minds and then we take their counties”. There exists a spiritual violence and abuse which has become systemic and these are real attacks by a very real Satan. Evil often hides in plain sight.
As soon as I read "possessed" I clicked immediately
Same here, pal
Now we need to see them react to some Dark Angel and Demolition Hammer.
@@GavinJBerry-kq1jq Nice pfp
Lol
New possessed Album is fucking brutal
Legend. Possessed is legend. Arguably the first death metal band.
Possessed still have that Bay Area/West Coast thrash metal sound, but they definitely did sow the seeds for what would become death metal and were its biggest influence.
@@asmodai2025 hmmmm...personally when I think of bay area thrash I think of testament, violence and forbidden. Possessed are much filthier and nastier. Just my dopey opinion
@@Banglum They are still build up upon the Bay Area/West Coast thrash sound. I personally do not think that they are intense enough to be death metal. To me, they only seem to be as aggressive and heavy as Dark Angel and Demolition Hammer, both of which are still very intense, but still thrash metal. If I am not mistaken, Possessed and Dark Angel came out around the same time, but Demolition Hammer was a 2nd wave thrash band who’s first album came out in 1990.
@@asmodai2025 yes around the same time. The Death Metal demo came out in 84...but I guess it's a personal feeling. "We have arrived" came out around the same time as Seven Churches. Dark Angel really peaked at Darkness Decends. Which to me is a a very aggressive thrash lp, one of the best ever. The vocals really separate Possessed and Darkness Decends. Being 53, I'm glad to have lived during the birth of death metal. Whoever wears the crown
@@asmodai2025 Seven Churches feels more aggressive than Scream Bloody Gore, as does Hell Awaits (at least to me), yet only the second is called death metal. The differentiation between thrash and death is only in the vocal style. Aggression has next to nothing to do with it, otherwise Sodom would be death metal.
The band were teenagers when they wrote and recorded this. One of my favorite bands.
remember this band was formed in 1983 and the band members were in their teens.
Definitely a great band of my youth. I listen to Possessed on my playlist all the time! Love the music!
It blows my mind that this is the Primus guitarist.
he was great in blind illusion as well, lary lalonde is a legit metal legend
and his guitar teacher (Joe Satriani) produced Possessed's second record
@@Qliphirot Joe Satriani produced The Eyes of Horror, which was their 3rd release and it was an EP.
@@jeric7740 that's right, I thought it was their second record.
That is a great old school death metal album ! A classic !
I really love this band, I met Jeff at the Jumping Turtle in San Diego/San Marcos back in 08-09 and had a couple of beers with him. Was a hell of a great time! Posssessed’s music got me through some tough times and has inspired what I do. The reaction to this song was great as well and hope they do other reactions to some other songs in this nature. Cheers!
In 1985 there just wasn't anything heavier or more brutal than Possessed. There were several college radio DJ's in Cleveland that played them on the regular, and I remember being in my car with a girl friend once when they played them. I cranked up the radio and she turned it down, going "ok, I like metal but that stuff is a little too crazy!" 🤣
Finally you get to possessed...check out there latest no more room in hell 2019 . they broke up in 87 after only 3 albums. Singer got shot .now in wheelchair 35yrs later comeback ..amazing
I don't listen a lot of possesed. However this song is just so good. I love the start intro and even though the quality of the recording is a little rough its still an amazing song.
That whole album is 🔥🔥🔥!!! And this was released BEFORE Reign in Blood! 😮😮😮
I did not expect you guys to react like that. Mad respect from me. You get it. That’s cool.
This was back in the 80's, mind you. My mom hated Ozzy but this was also back in the days of bootleg cassettes, and one day I was listening, and she heard it, and didn't know who it was, since it was a bootleg, and said she kinda liked it, and told her it was Ozzy.
Sadly, nowadays it would probably be burn a cell phone or PC, since physical media isn't as relevant as it once was. (sadly).
that thumbnail work was genius!!! hahaha 🤣
Bought this when It came out in 1985. I was 15 at the time. Still listen to it today.
Thanks for the shoutout at the end made my night lol🖤
I get this album on vinyl back in 1986 when I was 16 together with Vectoms '1st album speed revolution.
Oh those days 🤘
Nice picking guys. Keep on this path!
Considered as the first death metal album ever created and it lives up to it. Listen to seven churches to experience true oldschool death metal and while you're at it listen to satan's curse.
Possessed started Death Metal in 1984. It's great to see you guys react to this. I heard Possessed in 1985 when I was 14 and it was, and still is, one of the most evil sounding albums ever. They have a song on the album called "Death Metal" that began the sound and style that would later be continued by bands like Death, Necrophagia, Morbid Angel, Necrovore, Obituary and others. But it began with Possessed.
@Thrashing Hentai Possessed started it. Death continued it. This album is 1985. Death's debut is 1987. Do the math. 🙄
@@TheArenaUncensored No, they were death metal. The Possessed 1984 demo is called "Death Metal". Look it up. 🙄
Death/Mantas was the first one but they only recorded demos, only in 87 they release an album.
@@bayusik You are 100% correct. Chuck was literally trying to sound like us. Chuck was my friend and I feel honored that he wanted to play our type of music. Chuck lived at the Possessed house in Antioch with our fan club President. Chuck went on to create the Florida style of Death Metal. Death Metal now has so many styles and trust me , there’s a kid out there that will deny Possessed claiming that Viking Folk DeathMetal is the only true style. I actually love this debate because I am telling the truth :)
@@TheArenaUncensored Jeff Beccera, the vocalist/bassist of Possessed, answered below. And he points out I am correct. So you are, in fact, wrong.
There was an amazing band in the 80'S called MORBID SAINT and they are awesome, check'em out.
This album was a must have in the early 80's. Along with Kill Em All and Mercyfull Fates EP with nuns have no fun and of course The Melissa album .
Joey Beccera is the original vocalist and bass player he was shot in the spine and he's been in a wheelchair for what close to 35 years. I just saw a post on Facebook from him today I guess he's got ulcers or similar to bed sores that he's been hospitalized for. I guess he has some kind of a viral infection could have stats saying that 30,000 people die from those type of ulcerative bed sores every year.
Jeff beccera
*Becerra
you guys should do both songs from Death's third album "Spiritual Healing" track 4 Within the Mind and track 5 Spiritual Healing
Next: Possessed - Seance
Props to y’all for recognizing youth, and what youth does.
I saw them in Portugal a few years ago and I said to Jeff... "thanks man, what a show, God Bless You man!" and he answered me with a large smile: "Thanks brother, God Bless You too". I know it's difficult for him remember this but it's really true! SWR Barroselas, 2013! What a a nice man... a strenght of nature!!!
I think the god bless you is from a unknown god not a personal god that all religions ascribe to. After all its not like there is a god like Superman to come down and save the day.
@@HardKore5250 Sorry If you don't get the point ;)
ok that kind of scared me..i was honestly afraid to click on the video because all i see is "possessed" that had 66 views 6 minutes ago...uhhh, yeah...
Of course a Metallica reference from Vince! Surely, Mozart was also influenced by Metallica! Any riff, sound or even distorted guitar automatically has to be Influenced by Metallica! Even fridges and the moon were Influenced by Metallica! The pyramids were built to worship Metallica, maybe even Metallica built them on their own! Kirk whammied the stones! Man, the big bang was caused by Metallica, we all are not star dust, we are Metallica!
Awesome point. Metallica along with Zeppelin are the most overrated bands of all time.
Now that I'm on patreon and it'll take a while for you to be aware of it. Please do Possessed - My Beliefs" from the "The Eyes of Horror", preferably the remastered version but if you can't find a lyrics video I'll make one.
You might find that Possessed before they split up (2 of em went to Primus) had smarter things to say in that last EP from them in particular, but also the album before (they only have 3 releases), I say get the brilliantly remastered High Roller Records vinyl of Beyond The Gates/Eyes Of Horror or failing that, the slightly less good remaster by Century Media.
High Roller Records are the kings at remastering old thrash/speed/death metal from the 80's and early 90's and correcting everything that might take some aback because of the production.
Also, hi Jeff! Appreciate your craft man! ⬇
I know im a day late , but this song is jamming🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥
Jeff Becerra i think was maybe 16 when he wrote this and lary lalonde i think was 17 ,so while yes this is no where near the complex lyrics or phiosophy of say a Nergal.I think this song, and the album as a whole is a complete achievemant especially since we are talking about a few high school kids lol.
Great Band ! I own this LP and remember the setoff of the cover
You guys are great. 😁
Well well well finally after a lot of videos. You found the masters of this thing, you already react to "Death" but not Possessed what is going on?! FINALLY YOU DO THE RIGHT THING. SEVEN CHURCHES TOP TEN IN HISTORY ON METAL SCENE
You may be surprised but the guitarist on this now plays for Primus
One of the guitar players does. The main song writers were Mike Torrao and Jeff Becerra. Not the guy that plays in Primus.
Death F'n Metal!!!
One more RAINBOW song, 'KILL THE KING' LIVE in Munich 1977. You are missing SO MUCH when you don't watch Ronnie James Dio LIVE!!! He adds SO much!! He never needed studio tricks or autotune crap, his raw talent was overwhelming. THIS one IS heavy metal!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!
Possessed!!! Cannibal Corpse did an awesome cover of this song.
>CC
>Awesome
Choose one haha
@@Nightwalk444 Why should I choose one, if Cannibal Corpse has the 2 options.
@@Lord_Emmanuel it doesnt that's the point
I would like to see Vin and Sori do a reaction to this entire album and get their take
The opening is tubler bells on guitar and this band has a venom feel like the old school black metal bands
I wonder wonder if old school Sepultura where influenced by Jeffs band especially there demo
Rock
@Thrashing Hentai What
@Thrashing Hentai Metal is rock music, obviously
@Thrashing Hentai You're clueless
Metal is a subgenre of rock.
@Thrashing Hentai bro it’s literally a channel called rock where he just comments rock on channels, it’s nothing with the genre 😂
O MAIOR ALBUM DA HISTÓRIA DO DEATH METAL CLÁSSICO PERFEITO
Possessed -pentagram
What a band 🤘🤘🤘🤘
The first death metal band. They have nothing to do with pop rock metallica, this is another level!
That was a 9 for me
Love the fastest possible Wall of Sound
Original guitar player Larry LaLonde left the band and plays for Primus
Primus sucks
Primus Sucks🤘🏼🤘🏼
Primus fucking RULES
I use to be really into Black Metal now I find it comical. Partly because I'm Christian and prefer quality vocals.
Me too! I now listen to christian metal
You don’t like the darkness?
Time for some Watain!
they are mid at best
Great band Possession
You should do one with only Halloween songs 👻 🎃 when its time for that holiday. Not only Metal songs. But two that MUST be included are King Diamond ”Halloween” and VOITH ”On The Night Of Halloween”.
For those of you who don't know, as a fan from the very beginning of possessed,,,one of your,,,,christians ,,are the reason me Jeff Becerra is in a wheelchair now, he was shot after multiple attempts this man was shot and crippled for no reason other than the path he walks is like mine ,its different from yours but by no means does rhat imply that it is rhe wrong path ,its just different, it is absolutely wonderful to see jeff back on stage in 2023 and I want to say possessed beyond the gates was my very first REAL metal vinyl album
Hellraiser is cheesy but I love it
They really should've played the track "Seven Churches". Also, I'm surprised there's not any comments(that I've seen, although I didn't read all comments) about Larry LaLonde being on this. Larry LaLonde is the founding member/guitarist for Primus.
So back in the San Fran metal scene my band Bloodbath opened for Possessed 4x. The guitarist Larry LaLondone is the guitarist for Primus ( who I did 2 gigs with back in the day)
possesed is my favorit,band
Life of Agony - How it would be ! Lirycs.

Hey guys!
This has nothing to do with this video, but, you know can look up all of the meanings of Dio's songs, right? All of his lyrics were deep, steeped in fantasy, he loved fantasy books growing up. None of his big songs are 'evil' or praising evil. He explains what they mean in videos on youtube as well as googling them. The man was a musical genius and the GOAT vocally. React to RAINBOW, 'Mistreated' LIVE in Munich 1977. You should listen to all of Ronnies songs from live performances from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Ronnie adds so much to the songs with all of the vocal gymnastics he does when singing live. As great as he is in studio, he is that much better live. His stage presence rivals Freddie Mercury. 80's were his solo band 'Dio's peak, although they went on for many more years. His Rainbow performances are outstanding, again live is best. 'Gates of Babylon' is a great video shot in one take at a haunted castle in Europe. Ritchie Blackmore is a legend himself so having them together in a band was a gift to all of us. His Black Sabbath videos from 1980 are outstanding, check out 'Heaven and Hell', which was Ronnies favorite song he ever wrote. The live video of it is on RUclips and the creator is Black Sabbath. Enjoy and more Dio!
Thank you for once someone actually says listen to the lyrics of your kids music before you Judge but then again most people are dumb and ignorant my mother is catholic and hates that I listen to death metal and black metal
i saw them in the 80s like many other bands back then ,I dont lissen to them anymore nowadays all about the Christ metal ...
Regan?!! ... What is this music you're listening to? ... 😁🤘🤘🤘
Its alot of notes to crunch,,possessed was way ahead of their time,I've loved them from their demo days, true pioneers of death metal,if not the first,,once the mind breaks down the notes,it is the fastest and most brutal metal ever produced, but your minds processor has to be fast enough to take in the information and convert it to music, they were unbelievably fast for their time
React to Angra - Carolina IV
And death metal was born ...
I assume title typo? Or is it a new job exorcising porn demons?
without Possessed, there would be no "big four", You won't change my mind.
Ok…
Doubtful as fuck but alright
Metallica started in 1981, Slayer started in 83 before this album was released, Megadeth was started because Dave wanted his own thing after being kicked out of Metallica and idk much about anthrax but their sound doesn’t seem to be influenced by possessed. I think that death metal wouldn’t exist without thrash but ehh whatever
My life will be complete when you react to Dax - Dear God 🤙😎
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Nah, The Exorcist holds up. It is pretty fucked up, and I know it would horrify Sori in more ways than one.
That theme song is iconic (it'sthe intro to this song), like the one from Halloween, or Phantasm.
I agree with Hell Raiser; that first movie is pretty uneventful and boring for much of the runtime. I find that Clive Barker just does not translate well to the screen anyway.
Now this is classic brutal thrash, from 1985. These guys were pretty young. Some people say that this is the first death metal album, but I don't agree. This is thrash, right along the lines of Dark Angel and Kreator. It sacrifices any bit of melody for speed and aggression. I find 7 Churches kind of one note and boring; I feel the same way about the seminal Darkness Descends. I prefer Eternal Niggtmare by Vio-lence, Pleasure To Kill by Kreator & Scream Bloody Gore by Death (which I consider the first truly Death Metal album). Still, you gotta respect Possessed just for its ferocity and place in history.
i like the cannibal corpse version better
hmmm classic
