It's all here --Harmony, perfection, grace, beauty and an absolute fusion with the pure like light, music of Tomasso Albinoni! Three great artists, from different epochs, have created together, this unique masterpiece on ice: Tomasso Albinoni, John Curry and Twyla Tharp!
I pretty much stopped watching competitive skating when they cut out the judging on figures . To me it was an incredibly interesting part of seeing how the craft was built
Удивительная техника !!! Чудо !!! Хочется смотреть бесконечно ) Стойкое владением телом - Лёгкость ( сколько туда !!!) Благодарю за уникальное видео ))))
This piece is quintessential John, and sums all all he wanted to do to making skating an art form. Here to me he achieved that goal. Others have commented on John's 'simple edges and basic skills': I saw a good example of that when John was filming a show for the BBC. During a lull while the technicians were moving the lights around, he came over to the barrier and amused us by spelling out 'j-o-h-n' on the ice, on one foot, without putting his free foot down. Now *that's* control of your edges!
There was a chunk of time in figure skating that belonged to John Curry. This period of time was his and his alone. There was, and never will be, an intruder.
What a great artist John Curry was! He skates to the music with such grace, harmony and perfection! HE IS THE BEST SKATER EVER! We miss you so much John!
School figures set to music, performed by the balletic John Curry. Tracings, edgings, lines and flow. Curry, the calliope of the blade. John Curry, the epitome of beauty!
This was beautiful! Some of it was literally school figures skated to music. Brought a whole new meaning to school figures, helped to make them beautiful. I think that Mr. Curry was skating on a relatively small ice surface too which is more difficult.
Oh thank you for these videos... I saw John on TV 1976 in Innsbruck...when I Iwas a young girl.l.never thought, to see these performances again, there was no internet in those times.... I never forgot those great moments. When I discoverd your videos, I was so pleased and wept tears of gladness to see this grat artist and tears of grieve about his death in so young years. ... I hope, my English was not to bad, ro express, what I mean. Thank you !
Exquisite. I don't see Twyla Thorp's name as choreographer although I think it is her work. This performance for me is ice skating as good as it gets, not showing off acrobatics that become dull after awhile because there is no there there! iIt's my all time favorite piece, which I saw him skate in NYC in the 70s. thank you for posting it.
Ah, so great!! Excuisite!!! This is a form of artistic expression, absolutely fine craft. I love the axel jump sequence and one-foot sliding. Somehow people nowadays misunderstand "artistry" in figure skating as posing or acting. I think annual compulsory examination in order to participate international competition might be good discipline for the young skaters.
Last few seconds were all skated on one foot.... amazing control. I couldn't even tell he was skating on one foot until 2-3 viewings. His skill was so masterful and invisible.
This is truly wonderful. One wonders what those four people didn't like about it. Perhaps they were expecting multiple quads. If so, I fear they totally misunderstood it.
It's Albinoni's Trumpet concerto in B flat major. Now if anyone can tell me if it's available now on cd I will be eternally grateful. I used to have it on an LP recorded by Neville Marriner and the Academy of St Martin in the fields but that is long since lost.
Thank you! I was hoping someone would mention the composer. Beautiful, flawless skating and interpretation by the peerless John Curry. Bless you always, John.
@blackskatefree thank you SO much - I have now ordered a copy so will be able to hear it again properly, rather than the rather worn-out tape that was all I had!
Try watching "After All" without the music to see how well Curry achieved the work he commissioned from Twyla Tharp (1976) while still retaining all ice skating technique including basic figures no longer in Olympics. But keep your eye (and camera) out for David Liu who brings similar skills and ambition to ice skating and dance. He may achieve Curry's dream of elevating ice skating to an art form.

Thank you floskate.... this means the worldbto me... awe. sheer awe!
This video defines exactly what our sport is about. Pure magic.
Thank you John Curry for this timeless legacy.
People often forget just how good John was at school figures. He was not just a great artist and free skater - a true all round skater.
I pretty much stopped watching competitive skating when they cut out the judging on figures .
To me it was an incredibly interesting part of seeing how the craft was built
I legit got chills from this.
Bravo John, Bravo!💐
I got chills, too. Wanted to cry!

Actual figure skating--a real pleasure to watch. It's nice to see a program devoted to skating without the intrusion of jumps every few seconds.
Dylvente I agree.

He remains the greatest male figure skater, ever.
A reminder of what the true beauty of figure skating is all about……interpreting music with style and grace……
This Curry-Tharp collaboration is so complicated and rich in technique and artistry. So beautiful. Exquisite glide at end.
Heaven.
So beautiful that I cry every single time I watch this video. He was a master of the ice.

S o clever, incorporating figure moves into this wonderful performance. The man was a genius.
He probably had the best loop footwork of any skater in history. You don't see loops that good now days.
Oh, this is quintessential Twyla Tharp! All her fans should know about this, and John Curry's glorious performance.
A study of figures. Perfection.
Always with the expression of the music....
Eat your hearts out--those quads pale against the profound integrity and beauty of this man's artistry!!
This was beautiful! Some of it was literally school figures skated to music. Brought a whole new meaning to school figures, helped to make them beautiful. I think that Mr. Curry was skating on a relatively small ice surface too which is more difficult.
He was a gifted man. Wish I could have seen his school figures for real.
I know I've said this before, but I LOVE this piece. So beautiful and so pure. Amazing.

This is the reason that school figures were so important and why skating skill has regressed since the competitions no longer require them
Iconic and elegant! love it!

Utterly, utterly beautiful. Thank you so very much.
Great story! His line is often lauded as the best, but I think his edgework is also what makes his skating so exceptional.
Beautiful !!!
Absolutely exquisite! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting.
I have never seen balletic glissades on ice before. That is so clever and dangerous!
Janette Miller I was waiting for a pas de chat!!!!!

Extraordinary ❤
A gold medal figure skater and beyond
The best English curry of them all! Bravo! TY.
WOW!!! I've never seen anything like it!
Simple and beautiful!
As my coach says, “There’s a reason it’s called FIGURE skating.” And that’s why we sometimes work on figures even though it’s no longer required.
I suppose like pianists practice scales.
This is *so* difficult to do. I doubt that there's a skater alive today who could pull it off.
This is truly wonderful. One wonders what those four people didn't like about it. Perhaps they were expecting multiple quads. If so, I fear they totally misunderstood it.
today no more quality Compulsory figure skaters..most important part gone sadness..
One of the best in skating -the most élégant and inside the ice
One of ?

Posso dire che è un poeta
Somehow he makes one feel that we could get up and do the same!
Like him? NONE other!!!!!
It's ballet on ice. So beautiful. He passed away far too soon.
John Curry. Tharp!!!! o. m. g. ...

❤ какая грация!
4:56 Opposite direction Axel jumps sequence. Impressive.
Actually a pair of one-foot Axels in opposite directions, followed by a CCW regular Axel.
Someone said they watched him write his name in ice tracks and I can believe it.

Just saw Twyla's name:-) I missed first credits.
Non plus ultra
Who is the composer? They forgot that.
No, that was the player. Actually if you click on the title of the piece you will be taken to where the composer is listed - Albinoni.
I don't see that on my screen, so we must be looking a different screens.
