The castle in the near-distance does give it a nice sense of place-- I always feel like I know where I am in this track, which isn't as easy to say for the others... but yeah it's nothing special
@Lost-SoulSilver they could be grapefruit for all we know. It is literally a pixel of orange. If you utilize reasoning, then it's obvious they are peaches on Peach Circuit.
"Who's gonna be impressed by your mastery of the Super Circuit version of Rainbow Road?" Hey, you'd be surprised what speedrunners can pull off. They broke this one in half.
I was looking for this comment! Even when this first came out, the shortcuts were the most fun part of the game. I remember slaughtering some of these levels way back when. Also, worth mentioning that "the first handheld Mario Kart" was no small selling point for this game.
GBA Rainbow Road deserves much more appreciation and love. The Paper Mario Bowser Castle in the background, the lightning clouds that'll shrink anyone careless, the falling stars in the straightway, and of course the alternative booster path that leads to a cool skip. I used to nail that all the time. It definitely needs that Booster Course glowup or even a decent Tour port.
The shortcuts in this game are super underappreciated. The difficulty doesn't really come from finding them, but executing them. You can jump over SO MANY parts in so many tracks, but if you boost onto them you have to make sure you land on another part of the track after the jump otherwise you will fall off the stage or off-road. It truly feels like you're breaking the stage and I love it!
I love how James is keeping the ‘Tony Soprano was a playable character in Super Circuit’ joke he said in his character ranking. It’s such a random joke which is why I love it 😂
GBA Rainbow Road is shockingly good. I unironically think it’s one of the top 3 Rainbow Roads and is the most underrated track in the entire franchise.
It is one of very, very few courses I’ve ever spent a significant amount of time time trialing on. There’s just something about the music and all the absolutely ridiculous jump shortcuts you can pull off that makes me love it. Plus, I don’t know why but the rainbow effect it is one of my favorites, not the most impressive but it just lands with me for some reason.
Same dude this is probably my 2nd favorite rainbow road and I think it’s insanely underrated, anythings better than that generic space station MK8 garbage >__>
Same, it's one of the few Mario Kart tracks I've spent both playing it and doing time trials on it, the amount of things you can do with a Mushroom on this track is ridiculous
I’ve always thought Wii U ribbon road is kind of like a sequel to GBA ribbon road. In the super circuit one it’s surrounded by presents at a child’s birthday, and the Wii U one is a couple days after the party when all of the presents are opened and strung over the floor, like he’s playing with them all at once
Since this was my first ever Mario Kart game I played, on my grey Gameboy Advanced SP, this video means a lot to me and I have to thank you Schaff of reminding me of simpler times.

@@filipecardoso9820 I know but they're based off of how they looked in Paper Mario 64. Obviously the Super Circuit devs didn't work on Yoshi's Island so I doubt that's what inspired it
Maybe this rainbow road represents letting go of childhood and that castle is a metaphor on how you should let the childish things you used to do float away in the vast nothingness of space, or maybe they just added it cuz it looked cool
I actually think the Rainbow Road in Super Circuit is real cool! Having the edges of the course make you jump is far more interesting than just making you fall off. I also think the music is pretty nice too
Honestly, Sky Garden's song feels like it could have been the track to a rainbow road. If rainbow road had a slightly altered version of sky garden's song that included the original's ending, I would think that it could still be in A-Tier for the music alone.
Something sad about Broken Pier and Lakeside Park is that, in my opinion, these two tracks by far have the most remake value of any track outside of Ribbon Road and Sky Garden(even though they butchered that one). You could do so much with the themes of both those tracks and I really wish they got into Base 8, since now we’ll probably never see them again.
I feel like every track in this game has potential, yes even the circuits, but i don't think we'll ever see it now because of Mario Kart Tour, except for Cheese Land and Ribbon Road. It's criminal how all the GBA tracks were shortened for some reason, but all the other retro tracks kept their length, with the exception of Bowser Castle 4, but i'm sure that's only the case because it's gonna get into the BCP and they wanted to pretend they're putting effort into it. And it didn't even keep the original theme it had...

12:21 I never really got the chance to play Mario Kart Super circuit multiplayer. But seeing the battle mode and knowing how red shells work with the fact that you can drop them behind you basically turning them into a proximity mine so as soon as somebody gets in front of it it goes after them and hits them which is why it's actually very useful to have when you're in first place, knowing that the red shell does that I feel like it would be completely OP in the battle mode. Just keep placing a red shell all over the track so that as soon as your opponent goes right past it they get smashed
There’s also the fact that if you’re playing with 3 or 4 people, the first person to get all of their balloons popped turns into a Bob-Omb, and unlike MK64, if they blow up, they actually respawn
Personally Ribbon Road has been my easy favorite and not even close. Not just the theme but it's a course that is so satisfying to get those boosts chained together and maintain your speed. This is really cool! I know that you are reviewing all the Mario Kart games, but I expected Super Circuit to be one of the last few games in your ranking.
I gotta be honest, Broken Pier honestly might be my favorite track in Super Circuit. The gloomy atmosphere combined with the tricky, yet fair course layout works really well, and not enough people give it the credit it’s due. Once you master the controls of the game, it really clicks and is super satisfying to control. Maybe it’s worse on NSO for some reason, but on original hardware, it really clicked for me
I agree. I honestly have a fun time with Broken Pier. I would love for it to make a comeback, but I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon. I’m glad there are people that do appreciate this course
Super Circuit's Rainbow Road is my favourite Rainbow Road. The aesthetic is amazing, the floating Bowser Fortress from Paper Mario 64 gives it even more charm, the shooting stars and the lightning clouds are charming little touches. The gameplay is difficult and challenging in a fun way. The music is brilliant... Basically everything about this course is beautiful to me
I’m sorry but the Boo lake/Broken Pier music is actually great in my opinion. Easily my favorite Ghost theme in any Mario Kart. It has such a delightfully haunting tone with a rockin drum beat to make it slap. On top of that the remix in 8 Deluxe is downright phenomenal
Schaff if you're gonna do the whole series do you think you could shoutout the speed running communities around each game? The world records on this game are pretty nuts and the runners level of skill are absolutely insane
Great video! There really are some interesting themes asn styles in this one, they truly made full use go the GBA's capabilities. I think you missed that Yoshi Desert and Cheep Cheep Island have both been brought back in Tour though
This game has one of the best adverts/commercials ever. It’s very briefly shown in the video but basically a couple of old folks are playing the game together on a boat and the woman screws over the old guy in game, the old guy kicks an anchor rope over her leg and she gets thrown overboard. The funniest part is that the body thrown overboard is a solid mannequin which is accompanied with a HOO only when it goes over. So dumb, I love it.
8:10 You underestimate the Rainbow Road of this game (quite possibly the most underrated one in the series). The music of this stage at times sounds like it may have inspired several pieces of music in both Super Mario Galaxy games after updating the only hook in the original rainbow road. Also the background with Bowser's floating castle from Paper Mario 1 gives this Rainbow Road an unpretentious but slightly eery feel considering that the music is joyous yet ominous but also playful all at the same time. In fact, I watched this video where this guy ranked it as his favourite because although most other Rainbow Roads feel like there telling you well done for making it to the end and being quite celebratory suggesting the endgame of the game, Super Circuit's Rainbow Road's music not only suggests the endgame but can also suggest the end of childhood. The inflections of the music starts with a you've made it to the end well done, then goes all playful when it's like how about one more race for glory and towards the end of the tune the playful music slows down and becomes ever so slightly sadder as if it's saying to you it's ok to be sad as you've made it to the end but you should be proud of yourself for what you have been able to achieve. Honestly it makes me cry sometimes. ruclips.net/video/YLXMjq87LlI/видео.html I find it sad that this one gets snubbed and forgotten as I find a lot of the other Rainbow Roads try to be a bit too OTT grand and pretentious whilst this one is subdued, but playful and commemorative all at the same time even keeping in with the mystical feel that would eventually be implimented in Super Mario Galaxy where the pretensions are understandable and made those games iconic. And also, this is my first and will always be my FAVOURITE (yeah I said it 0:15) Mario Kart game due to how close it is to my heart, the absolute nostalgia I have for it with it being on the GBA and the actual creativity and surrealism put into these tracks that haven't properly been replicated since despite having more flashy an gravity defying tracks nowerdays. This is the only Mario Kart game I have played that made me feel like I was playing on an actual Formula 1 Grand Prix tournament when I was a kid. 8:56 I WILL CRY TEARS OF JOY WHEN IT GETS THE BEAUTIFUL AND MARVELOUS REMASTER IS SO WELL AND TRULY AND THOROUGHLY DESERVES.
Snow Land's shaky cam is because the ground is made of the same material some of the bridges in the game tun on. Like, if you pay attention to the screen shaking when you drive in the bridges in Lakeside Park or the ghost courses, then yeah. Idk why they made the entirety of Snow Land's course has this but yeah.
The fact that this was made by intelligent systems was the shocking revelation to me, but it also explained why there was a Bowser's Castle from Paper Mario in the background. I don't think they're up to snuff to make another, nor do I think they ever will be, but I think this is still a solid game.
9:11 Fun fact: Everyone remembers the Yoshi circuit, right? that map looked like Yoshi. Did you know they did the same thing here? If you look at the map, you'll see something unexpected. Also the fact, that this is on 9. 11. makes it even more hilarious.
Super Circuit has a lot of cool stuff and even when it is outshined by everyone and their mom, it's really neat And you remembering the Tony Suprano joke is great
One thing i love about this game is the luigi blimp on the final lap on luigi circuit it starts to fly away and on the next track sky garden its flying in the clouds with tony soprano and the other racers
Just do Super Mario Kart to get it over with Edit: I just realised that Tour counts each of the R, T and R/T tracks as unique separate tracks so Schaff is going to have to rank all the normal tracks, each of the City track variants, like New York Minute 1-4 AND every single R, T and R/T tracks as well
Yeah super circuit is one of my favorites and I kinda disagree with most of the video so far. (I'm at peach circuit) Like watching the footage reminds that this video is made by someone who probably hasn't put nearly as much time into super circuit and will probably only take these early impressions. I do however mostly agree with the cheese land point. The shortcuts make it one of my favorites in this game.
@@jerppursh7570 My favourites are ribbon road and boo lake, just because I like the spooky vibe with it. Luigi circuit is pretty good too! And I do also like lakeside park, even though I personally think riverside park IS better.
Snow Land has always been my favorite track from this game because of all the cool shortcuts. Guess I never noticed the screen shaking thing as a kid lol

I always imagined that because of track order the storm at luigi circuit is actually the same as the clouds from sky garden, because we see the blimp take off in LC and we see it again right after in SG
Schaff not noticing that the "orange trees" are actually peach trees on the Peach's Circuit speaks even more to its bland aesthetic
Wait those are supposed to be peaches?
They look like oranges so they're oranges
The castle in the near-distance does give it a nice sense of place-- I always feel like I know where I am in this track, which isn't as easy to say for the others... but yeah it's nothing special

My life will finally be complete when I see if Schaff personally prefers Donut Plains 1 over Donut Plains 3
Every day I pray for the answer to this age old question to arrive
Donut plains 3 is probably the only racetrack in the entire franchise in which you have to manually jump, that alone makes it the superior track.
Donut Plains 3 is my least favorite track in any game
skill issue
Wonder what would be in last place.
Choco Island 2? Bowser's Castle 2?

The remake for GBA Mario circuit is mostly memorable to me as the course where Dashie and Donkey Kong's rivalry finally fully took off
Yo Schaff. Review Across the Spider Verse. It was fantastic as hell. And surprisingly a "perfect sequel"
Agreed, I didn’t think it was possible until I watched it
I didn't really like it
This is definitely the Mario Kart of all time
Hand down the best. I play it 24/7.
So true
@@n19ntendodsi’d say wii is the best
@@lilshrimp0628 I was being sarcastic.
@@n19ntendods oh my bad😂
I’m sorry but the Boo lake/Broken Pier music is actually great in my opinion. Easily my favorite Ghost theme in any Mario Kart. It has such a delightfully haunting tone with a rockin drum beat to make it slap. On top of that the remix in 8 Deluxe is downright phenomenal
14:19 Funniest part BY FAR
Schaff if you're gonna do the whole series do you think you could shoutout the speed running communities around each game? The world records on this game are pretty nuts and the runners level of skill are absolutely insane
18:38 This aged both well and poorly.
YOU

My life will be fulfilled once Schaf reaches Mario Kart DS and talks about Waluigi Pinball
14:20 That is a GOATed YTP reference sir.
I've always loved the aesthetic of this game. The grafic style of the gba really helps my appreciation of it and makes me really nostalgic
Great video! There really are some interesting themes asn styles in this one, they truly made full use go the GBA's capabilities.
I think you missed that Yoshi Desert and Cheep Cheep Island have both been brought back in Tour though
6:08 Show of hands, who else got jumpscared by Jack Black Bowser?
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
tony soprano becoming mario cannon is the best decision nintendo has ever made
3:24 Xavier Renegade Angel?! Schaffrillas you must make a video about Xavier!
7:57 I was like, "hm yeah this one doesn't really stand out that mu-WAIT IS THAT A PAPER MARIO REFERENCE IN THE BACKGROUND"
I've been having a very difficult time with my anxiety lately, but your content makes me feel better. Thank you tamatoa man
8:10 You underestimate the Rainbow Road of this game (quite possibly the most underrated one in the series).
Honestly it makes me cry sometimes.
ruclips.net/video/YLXMjq87LlI/видео.html
I find it sad that this one gets snubbed and forgotten as I find a lot of the other Rainbow Roads try to be a bit too OTT grand and pretentious whilst this one is subdued, but playful and commemorative all at the same time even keeping in with the mystical feel that would eventually be implimented in Super Mario Galaxy where the pretensions are understandable and made those games iconic.
8:56 I WILL CRY TEARS OF JOY WHEN IT GETS THE BEAUTIFUL AND MARVELOUS REMASTER IS SO WELL AND TRULY AND THOROUGHLY DESERVES.
i’m glad to see comments like this about GBA rainbow road it truly is underappreciated especially the music
@@rafro98 100% true
Snow Land's shaky cam is because the ground is made of the same material some of the bridges in the game tun on. Like, if you pay attention to the screen shaking when you drive in the bridges in Lakeside Park or the ghost courses, then yeah. Idk why they made the entirety of Snow Land's course has this but yeah.
gotta do spider man across the spider-verse now
The fact that this was made by intelligent systems was the shocking revelation to me, but it also explained why there was a Bowser's Castle from Paper Mario in the background.
It looks like a chalk outline but without a head.

Ah yes, Super Circuit, The final Mario Kart game where Peach races with her hair down.
Really enjoying the Mario Kart stuff, thanks Schaff!
This was my first mario kart game. I have so many memories playing it with my dad when I was a kid :)
Ever heard of beating a dead horse? That’s Schaffrillas with Tony Soprano and Zoo Wee Mama.
9:01 how cool that you got Arlo as a guest!
Super Circuit has a lot of cool stuff and even when it is outshined by everyone and their mom, it's really neat
And you remembering the Tony Suprano joke is great
One time, a girl said she had a crush on me ever since she saw my Mario Kart Super Circuit Rainbow Road PB.
Really wish I was making that up.
One thing i love about this game is the luigi blimp on the final lap on luigi circuit it starts to fly away and on the next track sky garden its flying in the clouds with tony soprano and the other racers
18:38 Soul vs Soulless vs Mega soulless
Just do Super Mario Kart to get it over with
Edit: I just realised that Tour counts each of the R, T and R/T tracks as unique separate tracks so Schaff is going to have to rank all the normal tracks, each of the City track variants, like New York Minute 1-4 AND every single R, T and R/T tracks as well
As Someone who grew up with a Game Boy Advance, I can confirm this is a Mario Kart I do really care about.
I’ve been having a rough day but it’s all made better by when I see Schaff uploads a new video :]
Oh good, this came out before Sunset Wilds made it into the BCP so Schaff could express some optimism for how it might be when ported over.
In my opinion some of the courses in Super Circuit are a Hidden Gem
The good thing about those bumpers on Rainbow road is that you can literally make the map look like a suggestion
Definitely an underrated Mario Kart Game
I appreciate your dedication to adding smaller celebrities like Tony Soprano to your thumbnails.
