I really like seeing Cory be a parent. He is so often a teacher. You always see Topanga be the parent. It's actually read cool to Cory actually be a parent.
I got to say, I love that Cory is funny and was funny in this scene but I really loved seeing him be serious here. I want to have the same composure Topanga has here when I have kids of my own, she was very calm, barely raised her voice and still got her point through. Great episode.
This was a huge blow for Riley. Cause all this time when Riley wants something she usually goes against her friends to have it or to prove she's on the right but finally when it happens between her and her mom, it became a reality check for her that she cant always have things her way or look for a reward for being a good person because you are being raised as a good person, because thats the right and good thing to do and being a good person means that you're acting out of kindness, not because you're expecting others and the world to do the same thing to you or give you a reward. Especially when a specific person has become a good person because of how she raised by the people who raised her.😭
I know that Riley is wrong in this episode but that doesn´t mean she is annoying. I mean every person who is/was a teenager had a phase where it wanted to rebell against the parents. And a conversation like this between mother and daughter is in my opinion very important and something everybody knows.

She could have watched her little television show after she was done working....they had it recorded. Instead, she chose to be a disrespectful, entitled, foolish little brat. Topanga is teaching her here to take responsibility for her actions. And I could tell as I watched Topanga that this isn't easy for her....but she's doing this because she loves her daughter and she DOES believe Riley is the good person she raised her to be.
Topanga moved into 2nd place on my list of best TV sitcom moms. 1st is always Claire Huxtable. She did to her kids with her tone what Topanga did to Riley by standing up.
Shes a kid-teen this was a good episode for everyone. Most kids arent grateful no matter you give them and are they suppose to? Childs grow up and debate, argue and plea. Its called growing up.
Yeah my mom made sure to drill into my head a lot when I was 12 and 13 that I was entitled to nothing and that everything I had was give to me by her generosity and that she could take it if she felt she wanted to
This scene made me so happy. Riley was being such a brat. She is entitled to fuck all. Like Cory said, your "reward" for being a good child is having food on your table and a place to sleep. What she did was incredibly disrespectful and I applaud Topanga's patience. I probably would've lost it a lot sooner. I'm working on that temper I got though
Oh my god Riley is such a brat this episode. What's your reward? Your reward is a home, a loving family, food in your stomach, Electronics and crap, and most importantly, she has respect from the adults she looks up to. I wish I even had 1/3 of the amount of respect they have for her. Bratty. She was in the wrong.
@@sharkgirl74 not really. I've never met a teenager that hasnt gone through an entitlement phase. Hell, I've never met a *person* that hasnt gone through entitlement. She's in the wrong yes, but it doesn't make her annoying.
@@straychildren9783 you need to pick and choose your battles. It's just a finale. Like topanga said they could have just recorded it. I could understand if it was something that was a one time thing but it wasn't. Topanga gave all these years of her life to riley. The least she can do is help after school. I get teenage rebellion. I'm a teenager too. This is just something not worth rebelling. Especially with such a good mother like topanga. I'd rather work at the bakery than do school work. I understand the it's my life so I can choose, and as she gets older riley can still have more freedoms. The thing is she's not an adult, so she can't have all of them.
Everybody keeps saying that Riley's finally acting like a teenager. Not all teenagers are rebellious and disrespectful, and it's not really a good thing if they are. Topanga's right.
No, but all of them have acted this way at least once. It doesn't mean they're horrible kids. Hormones and emotions run wild at this age and it isn't uncommon to act this way. Riley's actions here are actually tame compared to how most can get. It doesn't make them rebellious or disrespectful, it makes them human and flawed. Parents aren't perfect either. It's apart of growing up, on both sides
@@violetrose674 true, everybody does act this way at some point. Me personally, I would think it's rude and disrespectful to say no, and actually not do something when your parents tell you to. I mean, her parents have taken care of Riley her entire life, and I wouldn't think it's to much to ask her to do something for them. But as you said, there's a lot of changes happening to a person at this age, both mentally and physically. This is all just my opinion though, and I'm not trying to start an argument or anything. Thank you for responding!
@@violetrose674 I am fourteen and yes I did act sarcastic and rebellious but it was pretty much in the jokey way for fun. Not that serious bratty attititude that Riley had....and that my 5 year old self had.
I'm currently 16. I have never acted this entitled. I might be sarcastic and a bit dickish but eventually I concede. I was entitled when I was like 13 but never to this extent
Maybe it's time I didn't live under this room anymore...gurrrlll you got a better life than maya (no disrespect towards maya's character because shes my favorite) and most kids don't be stupid
Oh yeah Riley has a fantastic life. A lot of people grew up in poverty, have no parents, or, in my case, grew up in a broken home. Riley has both her parents who are happily married and can afford to buy her whatever she wants. She has no idea how good she has it in her way too sheltered world
Riley had a choice to choose her battle, and is upset she has to live with the consequences of her actions despite being a “good person” The reason Topanga is so upset is because her daughter showed no self control in rewatching a show, and nearly missed going to school, she then showed that she thought the show was more important than helping out her mother And while I agree and understand she should be able to have some control over her life, she displayed that she still needs structure by still thinking it was Friday after marathoning her show And here she really showed off just how entitled she thinks she is, bad things happen to good people, good people make bad choices, there’s teen rebellion, setting boundaries and there’s being and entitled child thinking you can do whatever you want
There’s a fine line between feeling entitled as a teenager and what Riley did was wrong, yes she’s a good person but when she neglected her other responsibilities to help her parents especially Topanga’s Riley doesn’t understand that there are going to be lots of times she’s going to argue with her parents, the way she did and saying she feels “entitled” that can go in so many directions and this way was disrespectful. As a teenage child Riley needs to understand that Topanga needs help with a lot of things and it’s up her to pick up the slack, in this conversation I think it should have gone in a direction where since Riley is grounded she can prioritize her schedule with Topanga so that way on some days of the week she can help in the bakery say Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Tuesdays and Thursdays she can watch her show and if the bakery gets busy on the weekends she needs to sacrifice her fun time and help then, instead she just made a bigger mountain out of a mole hill
I will say that Riley was a bit out of line by doing this. She probably didn’t because she wanted to have a Teenage Rebellion, but at the same time in the beginning, Topanga looked like she had the worst morning ever before she even stepped into Riley’s room
Ngl as Riley continued talking the more tensed up I felt from the fear I felt for her. The terror of a mother knows no limits, I swear to this day even tho I’m in my early twenties I still fear of getting into an argument with my mother and I try to warn my younger brother to not test our mom’s patience 😅
Parents damn sure don’t get paid to take care of their children they do everything they do for Love😍🥰😘 not because it’s their job Because they love their children with all their heart and in this scene Riley disrespected her mother .
If I spoke to my parents like that, I would get burned. What teenager in their right mind would act like this? Riley should have known better than that.
I agree. But this scenario doesn’t really make sense if you think about it. I haven’t seen the show in awhile. But I don’t remember Riley ever having to help out at the bakery in previous episodes. Usually, Maya’s mom is the one who does that
@@superjackster0165 I'm pretty sure it was because it wasn't a key plot point to the story. Because it's about Riley learning key lessons in the real world, that's why they didn't show her helping out or at least that much.
@@maricoze Stll, it’s just one of those instances of the writers just throwing something out of their asses just for the sake of the plot. Like i said, Riley never had to help out at the bakery in previous episodes. Maya’s mom is the one who does that. Couldn’t they have just come up with a different situation or scenario for Riley to ditch out at and then have the rest be the same. This episode is just so poorly written and Riley acts very out of character for some reason
@@superjackster0165 she’s a teenager she’s not gonna stay the same forever. There will be times when she stands up for small things that she really wants to do. Like any other teenager. It’s normal but the fact that we never saw her didn’t mean she didn’t EVER do it. But I get your point
I don’t really think Riley had any good points. Most of her argument was her whining basically saying “I’m a good person! Why won’t you let me do whatever I want” I feel like this episode was kind of badly written because it seem just really out of character for Riley. She wouldn’t disrespect her mom over a tv show.
I would never disrespect to my parents but I’m still living with them they raised me good and right. I always do the chores around the house & always help my parents and I’m loving, caring that’s who I am
Riley didn’t just get sent to the gallows here. She built the platform, tied the noose, put her head inside, and put her hand on the lever to drop HERSELF to certain death. Topanga is the hangman who, ironically, doesn’t want to see her own daughter commit figurative suicide because she knows she raised her to know the difference between right and wrong and have be able to make the right decision on her own. What Riley perceives as “entitlement” and “independence” is actually “selfishness” and “spite.” Riley puts no consideration into what her parents have done or gone through to give her the life she takes for granted, and yet she has the audacity to say that her mother only cares about herself. Riley’s just lucky Topanga didn’t smack the ever-loving crap out of her for talking with such disrespect. Topanga demonstrates that a good parent believes in the lessons and values they try to instill in their children and lets her daughter speak her mind, despite knowing that this lesson is going to be a painful one that her daughter needs to learn. The acting in this show is seriously so underrated. Riley’s defiance, Topanga’s fury, and of course, Cory’s attempts to diffuse the situation and reiterate to Riley the massive mistake she’s about to make.
I liked the concept of this episode. But the set up for it doesn’t work because it seems like something that the writers just threw out of their ass. In this episode, Topanga needed Riley to help out at the bakery. I haven’t scene the show in awhile. But i have no memory of Riley needing to help out at the bakery in previous episodes. Maya’s mom is the one who typically does that
I'm with Topanga and Cory on everything except for Cory's argument at 2:29 . "You're a good kid. Parent's pay for that with food, clothes, shelter, and love." No, you do that because that's how to be a parent. It's not being Riley is a good kid. It's because if you didn't, you would be neglecting her, aka the way you get your child taken away. I hate when adults use that as an argument. You should love your kid no matter what (unless they murder someone or something super shitty) and you should be providing food, clothes, and shelter to your child. A reward is having a phone (kinda debatable depending on the situation), computer, and video games. Use those as an example. Don't use the bare essentials as the example. (maybe I'm biased, but as a child who has gone through major neglect, the argument he uses is very damaging. You're basically manipulating your kid to do everything you say. You probably won't take those things away, but it makes kids afraid of their parents that if they don't do every single thing you say, they'll be homeless. Someone kids take it more literally than others and I can see Riley being one of them-) (this was long, idk if it makes sense but oof) (the statement he uses is toxic. That's what I'm trying to say)
Children do get taken away because parents don't HAVE to do these things, they do them bc they want to and love their child and it's what they should do. Most parents do everything they can and Riley simply didn't care.
What corey says is nothing but true. About the reason why riley is a good person is because of topanga and he, and that her leaving with no job and $17 is a dumb move
I usually like Riley, but in this episode, I couldn't sympathize with her at all. Honestly in what world is watching your favourite tv show ever comparable to helping your parents out? Especially when by helping them out you help keeping your own financial standard your spoiled butt is used to. I work on a horse farm, my boss has two sons. Not even the more entitled one of the two would ever think of refusing to help his mother on the farm for a tv show, even if he could not record it. The only acceptable excuses for them to not help on the farm is another duty like school, a volunteer job or a sports competition.

You know you went to far when your parent says: "I don't want to see you right now."
Yes saying that is going too far.
Topanga is a good mother! And a good wife to Cory!
@@gerstein03 Exactly.
She has no idea how good she has it in her way too sheltered world
This sounds like my mum😂
Just because your a good person you don’t get rewards for it topanga is the best mother you could ever get. Lol
Riley: I HAVE $17 IN MY POCKET AND MY BOUNDLESS SPIRIT.
Ooooh!! Gimme a break!! 😲
Right. She's grown up thinking like that and she really shouldn't
Cory Matthews is so funny in this scene between Riley and Topanga
U shouldnt just be good to get a reward u should out of acts of kindness
I don't think there's a reward
@@jonedavila5954 there never was
It's a trap.
Learned from Shawn
You know you’re a parent when you physically twitch at the words “I think I’m entitled” I was like “GET HER TOPANGA!”
My Asian parents would literally beat my ass into pieces if I did this.
My black parents would too
Well any parent wouldn’t let kids talk to them any kind of way if your parents ask you to do something you do it without attitude
Riley had a choice to choose her battle, and is upset she has to live with the consequences of her actions despite being a “good person”
The reason Topanga is so upset is because her daughter showed no self control in rewatching a show, and nearly missed going to school, she then showed that she thought the show was more important than helping out her mother
And while I agree and understand she should be able to have some control over her life, she displayed that she still needs structure by still thinking it was Friday after marathoning her show
And here she really showed off just how entitled she thinks she is, bad things happen to good people, good people make bad choices,
there’s teen rebellion, setting boundaries and there’s being and entitled child thinking you can do whatever you want
That's great Riley you drove off a cliff what kind of rat hole at the bottom of the cliff are you going to find for 17 dollars.
Maya!
moma snapped
To be fair, Riley and Maya had sat in the bay view window watching a TV show for 3 days straight without even realizing an entire weekend had passed
This was seriously funny but serious moment !
cory is killing me ☠️☠️
I loved Cory and entitlement/bad road.
Riley we’ve all been there but girl … run
Ngl as Riley continued talking the more tensed up I felt from the fear I felt for her. The terror of a mother knows no limits, I swear to this day even tho I’m in my early twenties I still fear of getting into an argument with my mother and I try to warn my younger brother to not test our mom’s patience 😅
Cory is hilarious in this episode 😂
You heard your monster😂
😂😂
I'm going to be like Topanga when I'm babysitting kids.
$17? Oh my Riley 🤦♀️
Okay so well okay Riley you got detention for not listening to your mom.
This was a good episode but I don't like when Riley says no to her mom
I wish Bryan ella Lucy hale and mike from pretty little liars had the same concern and conversation about this
I just realized I behaved just like RILEY when I was in elementary and middle school. I still do, but I'm trying to be better for my parents.
The rat hole known as Maya's place
Riley is a good kid
This show has gotten to real
Riley did have some good points, but Topanga needed help at a bakery and Riley wanted to watch a show,.... yeah I'm with Topanga

Literary one of the only episodes that had substance.
Maya’s mom is the one who typically does that
I never knew that this show was so dark...
I love this show. But what is the music at the end? I like it too
What did Riley do to get TOPANGA mad
Topanga told Riley that she needed help at the bakery. Riley said no and watched a tv show, and well we saw the consequences
Couldn't she just recorded? It was just a serie.

dad? Cory : you heard your monster mother monster
I love this season 3
I feel like the episode should have been better called “Girl meets Her Maker”
Nice job
uch..too relatable! just, not the good person part..
she could've multi-tasked
What corey says is nothing but true. About the reason why riley is a good person is because of topanga and he, and that her leaving with no job and $17 is a dumb move
Topanga is the mum I wish I had
Riley goes on Strike for the first time
Godzilla go boom 💥 💥🤯🤯🤯
I usually like Riley, but in this episode, I couldn't sympathize with her at all. Honestly in what world is watching your favourite tv show ever comparable to helping your parents out? Especially when by helping them out you help keeping your own financial standard your spoiled butt is used to. I work on a horse farm, my boss has two sons. Not even the more entitled one of the two would ever think of refusing to help his mother on the farm for a tv show, even if he could not record it. The only acceptable excuses for them to not help on the farm is another duty like school, a volunteer job or a sports competition.
Anyone else got scared when Topanga used the mom voice... nope.. just me.. okay then...
Cory is awesome
Riley. You try living in my house. And dealing with my parents.
its like inside out

Riley took it for granted that she had strong loving parents and a foundation. Naive entitled and spoiled.
