Even though I'm Team Jordan, we have to remember that pop culture back then isn't the same as now. We have a lot more "distractions" and outlets compared to back then, so of course Jordan was inescapable, Meanwhile LeBron is a similar size fish in a bigger media pond. If you know Basketball, you know LeBron. It's pretty easy. I'm from sweden and know who Michael Jordan is. Everyone does. Basketball is not even a real sport here and I know who he is cause as Pat put it he was EVERYWHERE.
I have no idea who Lebron James is. A good basketball player I suppose? Can't say I've really heard of the name before this conversation. And I kind of think that says it all.
Also, Is it really cheating if everyones cheating? If everyones cheating then noone is.

The Argument Woolie is making bothers me on a fundamental level, which is the idea that "nothing anyone in the future can accomplish will ever be as good as the people before them because it's the people before them who invented the fundamentals that they base their skills on", but if someone can actually take those skills, apply them, restyle them and take them even further, that alone is worthy of recognition and DOES make them better than the people who came before them, because they went farther. Otherwise the best players ever will be the first people who ever played basketball, because everything ever done now is just derived from what they started.
Not everyone can be Michael Jordan. For someone to emulate him and do it successfully is fucking impressive, and to have a better track record than him is even more so and shouldn't be downplayed just because one has seniority over the other. Just because someone pushed the limits before you to make where you're standing now possible doesn't mean you going farther isn't worthy of praise. Otherwise we should only worship the people who discovered fire and not the people who harnessed it.

The reason you don't listen to someone like Pat on the Lebron James thing is that Pat is an adult that is VERY SPECIFIC about the media he consumes. Of course you can avoid Lebron James talk because you don't go out of your house and only really interact with your circle of friends in videogames or the podcast. Meanwhile if you grew up in the Lebron era you couldn't really escape it because you can't really pick and choose what stuff you care about. Little Timmy at school WILL talk to you about Lebron

Pat's take is dumb, the reason why you cant escape michael jordan because back then the only entertainment you had was TV the reason you can escape lebron now is because you can literally filter your entertainment now and Ads now are targetted towards your interests, also the world of marketing is much smaller back then the only ad space you had were billboards, magazines, TV, radio and the movies. The only correct answer for Lebron vs Jordan is no answer because youd have to consider a lot of parameters
