We traveled on this road in 2009. At that time it was in bad shape and dangerous. Still we enjoyed northern areas of Pakistan, especially the great Himalayas. We miss this beauty of Pakistan in Canada.

I walked on this road from jagloot to skardu during 1976. It took us 5 or 6 days to reach skardu.

That's great news indeed, we did this journey in October 2019 and it took us about 18 hours for just 176 kms, there was a long delay due to blasting at couple of places ...one of the most memorable, dangerous & tiring journey for us yet ....but so relieved to see the beautiful road, thanks for sharing

being civil engineer i can say its marvelous effort and road work.one thing which i must highlight here that good road needs good shoulders.in this kind of terrain its better to have concrete shoulders instead of tst work.concrete has got more compressive strength and shows greater resistance to rain and water. they can increase life of the road by providing concrete shoulders.it also has lesser road damages while clearing land slides.greater effort in these kind of roads is side protection work from river side.once again i would prefer concreting instead of stone walls.

Traveled on this road in 2019. That time it was under construction and it took us more than seven hours from Alam Bridge to Skardu. There were traffic jams, dust, blasting and it was an agonizing experience. Tried to avoid this road on the way back but couldn’t find suitable transport via Deosai to Astore.

in may 1979 i travelled on this road from gilgit to skardu . would you belive it was a kaccha track .till Dambu das i travelled in truck . from Dambu das i travelled till gamba (airport ) on foot .as the track was being widened, then i went to piun via khaplu . today when i saw black top road , i was amazed to see it . we did this almost over in 12 hours .
i stayed in skardu for two years . yes i was in the army then,

I travelled on this road in March 1984 when it was being built first time before it was a shingle track. It took me two days to get to skardu. It was only shangrila at kachura that too was in its completion stage. Average travel time was 8 hours if no landslide enroute.
Can't explain that experience, later I remained at Gilgit and frequently travelled in entire northern areas. There were only two metalled roads KKH from Rawalpindi to khunjerab and skardu road.
Good to see up gradation of road it will boost tourism.
