    What an excellent interview! Dyson was a remarkable thinker in so many ways. One quote that captured an issue vital to the future of physics was 9:23 "because of this unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics ... the laws of physics are mostly equations". Survival-focused human cognition, not math, labels the mathematical end states that can never be obtained in the physical world as perfect. The unreasonable effectiveness of math stems not from these seductive but unobtainable states of mind but from math's ability to capture the universe's rules and approach those limits to any degree that available energy and computation permit.
    (This is my second posting of this comment, so my apologies if I offended someone the first time, e.g., by bringing up the cognitive sciences. It was not my intent. I also had a link of no importance, which may have caused auto-deletion. It varies by channel.)

    Science and religion are two windows that people look through, trying to understand the big universe outside, trying to understand why we are here. The two windows give different views, but they look out at the same universe. Both views are one-sided, neither is complete. Both leave out essential features of the real world. And both are worthy of respect. Trouble arises when either science or religion claims universal jurisdiction, when either religious or scientific dogma claims to be infallible. Religious creationists and scientific materialists are equally dogmatic and insensitive. By their arrogance they bring both science and religion into disrepute. The media exaggerate their numbers and importance. The media rarely mention the fact that the great majority of religious people belong to moderate denominations that treat science with respect, or the fact that the great majority of scientists treat religion with respect so long as religion does not claim jurisdiction over scientific questions.
    Physicist Freeman Dyson.

    I love the idea that science as we know it is just an expression of our culture. A different culture may come up with a completely different way to express what we call "laws of the universe" or "laws of physics". While mathematics is utterly descriptive, it is the context of our culture that gives it meaning. And, the advanced constructs of it are derived from our culture's representation of it. I'll always appreciate and value Dyson's contribution.

    From Freeman Dyson:
    "Charles Hartshorne... informed me that my theological standpoint is Socinian. ...If I remember correctly what Hartshorne said, the main tenant ...is that God is neither omniscient nor omnipotent. He learns and grows as the universe unfolds. ...I merely find ...[this doctrine] congenial, and consistent with common sense. I do not make any clear distinction between mind and God.
    God is what mind becomes when it has passed beyond our comprehension. ...either a world-soul or a collection of world-souls. We are the chief inlets of God on this planet at... present... We may later grow with him as he grows, or we may be left behind. If... left behind, it is an end. If we keep growing, it is a beginning."

  • @JungleJargon
    @JungleJargon Год назад

    Fundamental means there’s a basis. Distance in cosmology is *merely* greatly expanded between the black holes in galaxies (causing the redshift) so the universe is not infinitely expanding as is claimed. An infinitely expanding universe is nonsensical. Not only is distance greatly expanded where there is no matter between galaxies, time runs at a much faster rate where there is no matter.
    Distances within the galaxies are vast so when we observe another galaxy, we are literally observing differing rates of time and differing measures of distance still within the limits of other galaxies, not to mention the *extreme* distances between galaxies where there is no matter to dilate time and distance.
    That means the distances between the galaxies are greatly expanded, (not expanding) and time is running at a much faster rate *which allows for us to see fully formed distant galaxies in the first place.*

I’m struggling trying to support them and myself because like so many others. I lost my job as a social worker at Forsyth hospital because I declined the vaccine. I declined because of my pre existing health condition lupus and heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption. I wish I could go back to the hospital but the mandate is still in place for hospitals that participate in Medicare and Medicaid. I’m waitressing and I’m so thankful to be working again, but I’m not making nearly enough to make ends meet. I get harassed and called names for simply asking for prayers,but prayers are all we need. I had to determine what the absolute truth is. So if you want to know what the absolute truth is, I can tell you. Only your Creator can perfectly cover for you Himself and and remake you again from the inside out by the power of His true word as no one else ever can. …since all of your mistakes are on and against your Creator. Where is the great IQ so as to recognize this simple fact? Where are all of the geniuses? You can’t get energy from an equal or lesser amount of energy.
