      I'm also a big Philadelphia Eagles fan! I'll be using a different writing style.
      IN 2018 CARSON WAS 1 - 5 AGAINST +.500 TEAMS!!! Wentz lost to TEN (9-7), MINN (8-7-1), to the NFC division rival Cowboys TWICE! (10-6), and was BLOWN OUT 48 - 7 by NO (13-3). Wentz also lost to CAR (7-9) after blowing a big lead. Carson's ONLY win last year against a +.500 team was a very close 4 point contest against IND (10 - 6). By the way, over the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Carson's record against +.500 teams was a dismal 4 - 7! WHO YOU PLAY MATTERS!!! Basically, Carson's only wins in 2018 were against much weaker opposition, and those games have had the effect of padding his stats. In 2018 Wentz's wins against -.500 teams were as follows: WAS (7 - 9), two wins against a lousy NY team (5 - 11), and a win over the Jaguars (5-11) who were terrible last year. Carson Wentz's 2018 overall record was not very good at 5 - 6.
      Nick Foles on the other hand led the Eagles to a 4 - 1 regular season record, and had a playoff win over Chicago, WITH THE EXACT SAME PLAYERS THAT SURROUNDED CARSON WENTZ!!! And unlike Carson, Nick had BIG WINS over multiple first place teams, including TEX (11-5), LA (11-3), and a playoff win over Chicago (12-4).

    I just have to say that, as a science student at university, difficulty is subjective. The idea of creative writing fills me with dread - however much I wish it didn't as I used to love it! I know so many people who find degree level maths a breeze, but can't actually string a sentence together! I feel so enraged when people say "oh such and such a degree is stupid/easy etc." because I would really like to see them try manage the essay/reading workload of a humanities student!
    Though, have to say, my opinion seems very rare among my peers sadly!
    Really interesting video though! I was torn between English and Chemistry and ended up on a natural sciences course doing a mix and match of sciences! Often wonder if I made the right choice though!

      I'm majoring in biochemistry and minoring in evolution+conservation (we have to have a major/minor in two core disciplines - mine are chemistry and biology). I'm hoping to do a PhD and go in to research! =) So, really my options are lab based but that's what I'd like to do! Though I have friends on my course who have gone on to do certain branches of law that require a science background, teaching, accountancy and other quantitative things. Most people on science based degrees, it has to be said, end up in further education or teaching!

    • @AshleighMuses
      @AshleighMuses 9 лет назад +1

      Until you have Dr before you name you're at the mercy of someone bigger and better than you! You're in their research group and get to do a project around what they study, so it's independent but with boundaries, if that makes sense?! I'd only apply for a position which was in an area that I was interested in so, really, it is 99% my choice what I end up doing!

    I agree with the idea thing. Where you don’t have tons of ideas but once you have one you can write for pages and pages. I’m only a freshman in high school and I tried the Creative Writing class. I love it. I’m so glad I discovered it in my school and can take it again if I want to. But I love writing and could continue on and on and on but it takes awhile for an idea. We had a 700 word minimum for a short short story and I wrote over 1000 words and 6 pages.

    Workshops were also very difficult for me, and ultimately I'm not sure how I feel about them for Creative Writing degrees -- I feel like I was so full of fear/dread/shame that it was hard to not take every slight criticism personally, even though often people were being really kind -- and when people were enthusiastic I almost... didn't believe them? I think it's just very strange, because it felt as if there were a particular "type" of writing we were supposed to be doing (literary fiction) that was "the best" writing and otherwise we kind of tore each other apart for not living up to it.

    I studied playwriting and literature at Emerson College in Boston and had a experience. I do think, though, that you learn a TON when you study creative writing... So much of what I learned about storytelling has served me really well in other jobs totally unrelated to writing. The art of narrative is invaluable, no matter what job you end up doing!

      There is basically a blind, deaf and not speaking professor in my old uni in my country. As I remember, it was a man, so he wrote a book and he somehow do a research. He's a psychologist. There is a ton, TON of psychologists who have some sort of disorders. I'm not sure that you like psychology but there is ton of things which you can do. You just never thought about them that way or they weren't interesting to you or anything other reason. Just try to look it up and you'll find what you can do besides that. You are more than your disorder and you can do more than people expect from you. (I'm not trying to being just a stupidly positive or ignore your feelings. I'm looking to get diagnosis with Asperger Syndrome. So, I can relate to you in some level. I just trying to think about myself beyound all of this)

    Hello Katie,
    I wanted to thank you for posting this Video on the Creative Writing Degree. You are very correct. I am also a Creative Writing Student, with focuses in Poetry and Non-Fiction. I too believe that people do and should pursue Creative Writing Degrees purely out of love for the subject. You need to love the subject as well, because it is simply a very taxing Degree. Workshops will kick you emotional ass. I know this all too well.
    In addition, with a degree in Creative Writing, regardless of the genre of focus, you are in pursuit of becoming a skillful and competent writer, at least I hope so. Furthermore, Creative Writing also opens avenues to Journalism, Marketing, Business, Economics, Teaching, Communications, Etc. Especially within Journalism, where you write, broadcast, photograph, interview, and investigate, writing and having the ability to clearly and correctly communicate via verbal communication, or through written form, is crucial.
    Thank your for posting your videos, and I look forward to your reply if you so desire.
    Cheers!

    It's so good you enjoyed your creative writing course. I actually embarked upon a Creative Writing/English Literature degree at the start of university, but didn't like the way my university taught/approached creative writing, it sucked the fun out of it for me. I switched to straight English Literature, with a specialist on Medieval Literature, and now am about to start a Medieval Studies Masters, so the decision really affected my future apparently! Where did you do you degree? :)

    Great video. One big thing to note though is that most degrees open up huge career opportunities within many areas. You arent limited to a career ONLY in creative writing and literature if you get your degree in that. Obviously every degree tends to come with a relavant path which opens up afterwards, but there are a lot of management jobs and relatively high calibre jobs which will take someone on because they have a degree. Not because of what the degree is in. There are one or two courses that wont be seen as strong degrees but mostly a degree should be looked at as a degree when your starting out and you should choose what you love to do. Of course if your heart is set on a career in Law then a Law degree makes more sense. But if you arent sure of what you want to do in the future yet then a degree should just be seen as a big key to open a million doors for jobs you would have to otherwise start far down the ladder to aquire.

    • @KatieRuby
      @KatieRuby  8 лет назад +1

      Oh definitely :) I know I'm probably not going to get a job related to writing or publishing but creative writing was what I enjoyed at the time and since there is no guarantee of a job at the end of whatever degree you have, it might as well be something you enjoy!

I have a job that is stable and pays for my comfortable house and multiple holidays. Holidays from which I usually bring a short story or a poem... I brought a novel idea from one as well. I got back to writing a few years ago and despite doing it in my non-native language I've already had some small success. I learned everything from th internet (read:google and youtube), books and audiobooks on writing and some amazing people from writing groups I attend. I write in evenings and on weekends, sometimes I take a day off my day job to write a bit. Sure, some days I think to myself: what would my life look like if I went to do writing at uni? Well, maybe I'd turn out great, or maybe I'd starve (I didn't have a privilege of generational wealth)... Would I do anything differently if I could go back in time? Hell no.

I would look online into the best uni's in the UK for creative writing and then see if they have any international programmes and things :) if you feel confident you'd be able to write in English then go for it! But remember that you will have to do lots of essays and a dissertation and the word counts are often long. Hard enough for someone for which English is a first language never mind second :) if it's something you really want, then go for it!

    • @KatieRuby

      Your tutors like a written version so they can have a read and give you feedback. In the workshops you usually share your work too, but in small groups rather than the whole class :)

    Is it hard to keep up with both creative writing and English at the same time? I was never good under pressure, and I'm not sure if I should go for both. I would love to though, but I'm just not sure if it's something that is heavy to go through.

    • @KatieRuby

      valeria salas you do the same amount of modules whatever you do, if you were to just do English you'd have the same number of modules to do, it's just if you do creative writing AND English, they are split between the two so it's no more work :)

    This was interesting. I'm currently in year 11 at secondary. Hoping to be a fiction writer when I'm older, could you suggest the best courses in college/uni? I pretty much have no clue what I should take, apart from creative writing and english-lang (at college), and need some general life directions, lol.

    • @KatieRuby
      @KatieRuby  8 лет назад

      If you want to be a fiction writer, then Creative Writing is obviously a great degree to do at Uni. I liked doing English aswell just because being well read obviously means you're going to write better. Plus you can take inspiration from authors you read I suppose. If you're going to do English and CW at Uni I would suggest doing English Literature at college. I did English language at A level and while I did enjoy it, I feel like if you do English lit, you'll be more prepared for what university expects :)

    • @gleekymuncher
      @gleekymuncher 8 лет назад

      +Katie Ruby I'm applying for college next week and its really scary... I think I'll go with Language, Lit, CW and philosophy though. I'm still unsure on lit because my older brother (he writes too) said it was really stressful. :/
      And thanks for the reply :)

    Hi! My name is Valeria, I'm from Perú and I would love to study CW at uni. However, there is no CW degree in my country, so I am planning to study abroad. Do you know which universities in the UK are the best for this particular subject?

    • @KatieRuby
      @KatieRuby  8 лет назад

      Warwick University and Manchester Met are supposed to be good, as well as Kingston Uni in London. My uni (University of Hull) was great too :) I would do some research online as to the best ones. A lot of universities offer Creative Writing as an addition to doing an English degree too so you'll have to think about whether you want to do CW alone or CW with English :)

    So, I'm about to start my third semester of high school and I know I want to study CR and English lit, but I don't really have that much money and I don't think I'll make it to a scholarship since
    A) I'm a foreigner.
    B) I'm not the brightest student in subjects other than those that have to do with arts (history, drawing, reading, grammar, etc.)
    So I might have to give up one of them. My question is: how expensive is it to study both of them?
