Advice from an old guy here: Beware of vets. Many are being bought up by huge corporations and the costs are becoming outrageous. Small/indie vets often provide good care at more reasonable costs. Next is running for exercise. Enjoy when younger but find other means for exercise as you age. Our bodies are not meant to run for miles every day and it will catch up to you with bad knees and hips later in life. Finally, cars. Some manufactures claim lifetime coolant or super long duration transmission fluid. Never! Always have these changed periodically or risk major repairs in the future.
Yeah, it's crazy. They literally kept offering me products. If I said yes to everything, I would have easily spent $1000+ there. I was even reading about "Heartworm" tests and medication and I think it's just a scam. Dogs can get heartworms, but it's pretty rare. I think it's just something to charge and you can't get the flea/tick medication unless you get them the test. And the medication is like $40 a pill. Worms in the heart of your pet sells to people, I think. It was a local, independent vet, but it was crazy how much it cost. And of course her shots are spread out throughout the year and they can't just do it all at once so I don't have to keep paying for vet trips.
@@ElAgustinIf you have mosquitoes in your area, you might want to consider a heartworm preventative. We have mosquitoes almost year round where I live, and I've had one dog die from heartworms and another get them and survive after months of treatment. Heartguard is usually not too expensive and worth it in my opinion.
I wouldn’t recommend “Express” as it is rather expensive. I would recommend “Uniqlo” they are a Japanese clothing brand which specializes in high quality essentials at a reasonable price compared to other stores such as “H&M” and “Zara”. A plain shirt usually goes for $20-$25 depending on the style you choose, trust me you won’t buy clothes anywhere else.
I make food that I can freeze. I also cook for three days 😂 since my energy level is down I make all my ❤️ favorite and healthy food so I've stopped eating out because I make it much better and healthier.😅
I use a low end Oral B and have been for years. I've also used a Sonicare previously. Dentists tend to know the patients who use them compared to those who don't. My dentist commented after a few seconds in my mouth, "You use an electric toothbrush, don't you?"
On a scale of 1 to 10 - STAR is an absolute 10! She is smart, loving, loyal, playful, beautiful, confident and polite. I had a german sheperd mix as a young adult and they are very loving and loyal! Plus Star loves her Daddy! I actually have a cat named "Star". She is very loving and smart.
¡Hola El Agustín! I really enjoyed this video! Totally agree on YT Premium, good sheets and a well-decorated home. Some time ago when I was much younger and my independent life had just started, I was running some errands when I came across this beautiful gray sofa bed at a department store. Beautiful design, clean lines, great materials. I checked the price tag: it was about 2 months of my salary back then. I started saving money to get it, and even put the photo I found at the store's website as my screensaver at work for a bit of motivation. My coworkers saw it, asked for the price, then started whinning about how expensive it was and how I could get a much cheaper one elsewhere. The thing lasted for some months until I got the money and bought the freaking thing. It's been 11 years and I'm still looking at this beautiful sofa still in great condition sitting on my study room. It was a huge investment at that time but it's worth every penny.
Hi El Agustin, I do resonate with your choices. I have a cat, I love good sheets, like to occasionally dine at cafes and restaurants, I find good quality clothing and shoes can really last, I do like Apple computers - as do many IT professionals. I tend to buy nice notebooks rather than buy a whiteboard. I love international travel, it is a luxury, but if you live in a good country, it can make you appreciate your home even more and enrich you with cultural and geographic experiences. I like to drink tea and coffee, so having great teapots that have nice designs and efficiently brew tea, and coffee implements, are a must. As I like notebooks, I would like to own a Montblanc fountain pen in the future. Fountain pens can be a world of fun and collecting! A decent hifi, music and movie collection saves me streaming fees - I am old fashioned that way. I still manage to enjoy great RUclips videos and creators like you with just the standard RUclips offering.
@1:27 - Star is definitely a 10/10! @6:20 - I am paying $1455 for a 820 sf apt in a wayyyy smaller city in Canada! I want to move to a bigger city, but honestly scared of higher cost of living! @9:23 - I eat out as much as you do too, but I think that is possible cause I don't have kids lol. @11:16 - I get prescription sunglasses cause I can't see anything when the sun is rising/going down when driving. @17:01 - I have a VW Jetta for over 12 years now. It doesn't have a lot of miles on it though. But it has been a decent car with not too many maintenance issues.
Star is ADORABLE! Love your new place! Yes on shoes! I wear Hokas and they are expensive but save my legs and feet! Love plants & we are building up our garden and add flowers/bushes every year. Worth every penny! We don't eat out a lot but when we do there is no guilt! I have RUclips premium. Cannot stand the commercials. Too many! Yes on the prescription sunglasses! Yes on tools! I prefer glass containers. Acers are great! We don't do Apple. Yes on the clothing! I have nice clothes but not an abundance. We buy quality. Yes to travel & experiences! Yes to an decent car! Your dancing cracks me up! 😂😂😂 Great video!
I bulk prepare and freeze meal portions. With a second freezer, I easily have six to eight weeks of high-quality, nutritionally balanced, properly-portioned meals. Thus, on a day I don't feel like cooking, reminding myself that I only have 60 to 90 seconds of microwaving, keeps me from eating out more than two or three times a month. Saves money and makes the correct diet part of physical fitness much easier.
Star IS a star. The cost of pets is money well spent. Also, just try Brooks running shoes. The Adrenaline series is good. However, I digress. Hope Thanksgiving was good in your new home.
Despite numerous efforts and many videos watched on frugality, money escapes me. Expenses keep piling up. But I still believe in it. Say hello to your dog, Star. 10/10 of cuteness.

Star gets no less than an 8. My pets rank higher because they are mine. Beauty is 10 for Star. She is a beautiful dog. Good luck with the marathon. I ran a 5 k. Yes, you do run a lot. We have bamboo sheets we got at a flea market. Our bed on our property in western PA is in a camper. I spent $400 on a new mattress because camper mattresses are borderline boards. Western PA has lots of state parks within an hour of our fruit farm. I love hearing you say duckorations.😂 It's so cute. We eat out once a week on average. Yesterday I made enough food so I won't have to cook for a couple days. I cook in glass and stainless steel. Good luck with the new engine. My Hyundai has 190,000 miles on it. It has been very dependable.
easy solution to #10: meal planning, silly! cook two or three things that will give you multiple servings, and you're good for several meals before you have to cook again. or have a few frozen pizzas that you can pop in the oven and not have to do any actual cooking. i might get takeout once or twice a month for this reason alone. cooking from scratch is such a joy.
Star is definitely a 10! Great video. I do wish you would promote "recycled" clothing that is expensive brand and sold online & consignment stores. Our poor earth can't survive more new clothes .
I agree, pets are worth it, Star is a 10+. I have the Unlimited Sip Club at Panera and enjoy getting something to drink and sitting at my usual spots and getting work done. Yes to good shoes, they are a must for me! Good sheets that help keep me cool are a must!
I recently got a ficus from my work at a cheap price of $1, thanks to my coworker that priced it low. I eat out once a week, it's fine as long as you're saving money also.
You mentioned precription glasses so I would like to add lasik to the list, it was worth every pennie I spent on it. You can also fund a HSA and pay for it pre tax dollars.
Takeaway when you are single is not that bad. You only pay for yourself and do not have to stock all the ingredients the Takeaway has. I think you forgot 1. the best and most comfortable bed or futon you can afford ... never safe on beds, mattresses or futons, 2. a good, easy-to-use and to clean freezer (to store stuff when you are not taking it out).
Good informational vid, Agustin! I wonder about rent, though...wouldn't it be more cost effective for you to purchase a home (for equity purposes)? And, of course, Star is 10 out of 10!!! Such a beauty!
Eventually I want a home, but I enjoy the flexibility of renting for now. Plus a house in the city would be over a million dollars and I can't afford that.
a agree on good shoes especially running shoes.. those nikes look like a great daily trainer but for the marathon i would get their premium racing shoes.. the Alphafly 3, which is the preferred marathon shoe, are almost 300 bucks but your feet, ankles, knees and finish time will thank you. good luck with the training and race!
Almost everything is inaccessible in the current Brazilian scenario. Hmm, I think I need to create a Plan B or even Plan C... Thank you for the good advice and for making me reflect on my current limitations (as well as my country’s). Best regards from Brazil!
Such a fun video; naturally Star is a 10 -- she truly is lovely. We had two chihuahuas until recently and my goodness dogs can be expensive, especially later in life. I took them to the Humane Society for a long time to keep costs down, but eventually it became too inconvenient as you had to pre-pay for appointments -- and be put on Hold for long periods when you called -- and it wasn't nearby, while we had a good vet literally around the corner. I've been a long-distance runner since high school: we're talking 4 1/2 decades. If you have good form and take care of your body you definitely can run into old age, even competitively. Of course running doesn't work for everybody--no sport does: you can tell by watching (and listening to) people run: some of us simply aren't light on our feet. If you haven't already, invest in a good massage stick: your quads, calves, and hamstrings will thank you. I won't spend more than $100 on running shoes; you definitely don't need to, especially if you're willing to stick to last season's models. I love stylish running clothes, however, which can cost a lot. I'm willing to buy second hand on eBay or Poshmark or on sale at places like REI, never full price, for the brands I like (Janji is my favorite). If you're not already, I recommend training with a club: it's much more motivating and the social aspect is a big plus. I recommend joining Strava for the free features but not paying for the subscription. As far as higher quality clothes, I second Uniqlo and also like J. Crew (on sale only). The nice thing about Uniqlo is that they carry small sizes (XS, XXS) so you don't have to worry about finding clothes that fit as a not-so-tall person.
Yeah, I need to find a club here in Atlanta. One of my goals with running is to meet more people! Especially on the long runs, it's good to be with others. I'll look into a massager, I was definitely feeling sore are my 10 mile run yesterday. I did plenty of stretching though.
Speaking of toothbrushes…… I switched to using PET TOOTHBRUSHES. I highly recommend using a PET TOOTHBRUSH….. the long two headed kind (soft, 1 large triangle shape and one tiny head for back molars). Love LOVE these!!
