I noticed that in this case the element/matting has been fixed directly to plywood. This to me seems a better way of doing it than having the insulation panels underneath. Would you advised to do it directly on wood? I am going to use Wood effect ceramic tiles for finished surface.
We always recommended a insulated subfloor , hence why as the 1st option we recommend thermal boards to be used. But potentially you can use the mat system on top of plywood it would just need to be covered in a self levelling compound.
If you put more than one roll, is it necessary to place the same number of thermostats or could you use just one thermostat?
Can you do this on laminate flooring
I would be very apprehensive about sealing this underfloor heating with levelling compound. The thought of it failing and having to remove all that makes me shudder. Heating elements do fail even if all seems good after installation.
Hi there, when installing the Klima underfloor heating mat we recommend to do a ohms resistance test, before you laid the mat , when you rolled the mat out and finally when the tiles have been laid.
If for example the mat has become damaged during installation, it can be identified to the tile where the damage has been done and then the single tile is lifted and the repair can be performed and allow for you to reuse the underfloor heating system (Please note with the repair being done it will void the manufacturer warranty)
Hello, can we put this on top of plyboard and then cover the heating wires with a Mapetex Membrane on top and then we're tiling on to the membrane?
Do yo need some iron nesh for stability when installing on wooden floor?
Hi there, I would suggest that question is better for a builder from a stability stand point , as we just need a stable level subfloor with no movement in it and to have no gaps in the subfloor, i.e. a concrete subfloor or plywood/chipboard similar subfloor base.
Do you have to use a self level compound or can you put tile adhesive and tile straight on to the mat. The floor has already been leveled and is going to have insulation cement boards
Hi there , it can be done both ways. Please refer to this hyperlink www.klima.co.uk/heating-mat , then go to the installation section to look at the instruction booklet

What’s the maximum level of screed if you’re putting this into a new extension
Hi there, there is no maximum amount of screed/self leveling compound to be poured over the top of the mat but the average amount of compound poured of tile adhesive and self leveling compound and tile on top is 20mm - 25mm amount of compound. We highly recommend if your going 20mm or thicker then ensure the floor is well insulated and the more amount of compound poured the longer the heat will take to penetrate through.
I’ve installed it last week today I switched it on for half an hour but it’s not getting warm .just little bit
Hi there, please note underfloor heating is not a instanteous heat source but a even spread of heat from the start of the mat to the end of the mat , the reaction time (how long the floor takes to heat up) is also dependent on how much insulation is installed in the floor. But if you have any questions about your system then do not hesitate to contact us on 01887 822020
Can I lay it on a laminated floor
I installed one it’s not really getting warm
