Hey man. Thanks for checking out RealRTCW! Its been 2 years of development for 5.0. The road was bumpy and sometimes very frustrating. But seeing your vid and comments on it. It makes all of it worth it! Cant wait to unleash 5.0 to the public!!

Hey, awesome work! Will you also upload 5.0 on moddb? Since in Germany we still can't buy RTCW normally on steam, all mods are also "not available in your region". I bought a key for RTCW long ago and it did activate on steam, works fine. But like I said, can't even reach the mod page since it's "forbidden". So I hope you make it available on moddb too! Many thanks and again: looks fckn dope, loved the game back then and will give it another spin with your "definite edition"!
PS: does it have ultrawide support? Not sure if possible with idtech 3 but would be great.
Steam version seems to be broken without the vanilla plus DLC

There is a technical reason why Real RTCW sounds so good. Unlike the Directsound backend of RTCW, iortcw (source port used for Real RTCW) utilizes OpenAL Soft EFX for 3D sound processing, which sounds very similar to old school hardware-accelerated sound middlewares such as A3D or Creative EAX. Lookup I Drink Lava's RUclips page- he has a video showing how sound propagates in a 3D space with iortcw, even though the original RTCW was never designed for 3D sound middlewares. Many other games based on Id Tech 2/3/4 received support for EAX via DirectSound 3D or Open AL. Open AL Soft was forked from Open AL after Creative abandoned Open AL in 2009. Such a shame we rarely get source code releases like RTCW/ Id Tech 3 anymore. A source code release of Id Tech 5 would fix a lot of problems games like RAGE and Wolfenstein: TNO & TOB still have.

Surprised to see you cover this one, Mac! This is practically the Definitive Release of RTCW and hell, The devs behind 5.0 actually created a whole bonus Campaign called The Dark Army Uprising and even went ahead and remade the Cancelled Enemy Territory SP/COOP Campaign!
those campaigns are by a fellow called william faure, he's not one of the devs but he's been modding rtcw for years, and there are many other campaigns on the steam workshop for realrtcw

@@flippedoutkyrii if he was hired i wasn't aware, i just know he'd already made the dark army uprising before realrtcw even came out and simply ported it and seems to have done enemy territory single player mostly on his own
I hope someone will port over or recreate the PS2/XBOX-exclusive prologue mission set in Egypt for this.
havent played this in a year or so. great mod! i'm so glad i'm not the only one who got the complete creeps in the catacomb section! with headphones you're on your tip toes at all times

Enemy territory, the multiplayer component, was amazing. We played this for years and had a blast.
RTCW had MP too actually and in most ways it was actually better than ET, but ET just had more features, more maps and more players (because it was free)
I have to say it though.. Sound design wise, overall, everything, RTCW was 200x times better than ET.
I honestly to this day cant stand the sound of the tommygun in ET.

RtCW was one of the games that contributed to the success of Xbox Live. The multiplayer, with the different classes was outstanding.
Such a nostalgia bomb. Goddamn, ET was amazing as well, what a time :')
I remember that too there was a level with a train in it and you would jump in the train and it would go to the enemy base or whatever best map for an awesome game.
ET was fun but they really really messed up the sound design!! Sound design was top notch in RTCW but absolutely terrible in ET!!
Also Auskipper, the map you think about is probably not an ET map but an RTCW MP map named MP_tram. That was indeed an amazing map!!!
Edit: wait no!! It was an ET map and it was called Railgun! Both have trains though mp_tram was using suspended tram carts instead of an actual train.

Multiplayer of this game was Epic back in the day's
Love to see it. Fans keeping old games relevant. Another project I highly recommend is the Team Beef port to VR. Playing through it in VR is like experiencing a whole new game.

First game I ever played where there were DISTANCE sounds for weapons. Insane! And it took a bazillion years until sound design caught up.

I've been a big fan of RTCW it was my first ever pc game i played that ran on windows xp like butter. It was about a year ago when i decided to try this mod out for myself and a bunch of other add ons and honestly this is why i couldnt go back to vanilla after this because not only does it overhaul everything in game but it just feels now like it was remastered today for modern pcs and im happy for that to see the dedication modders go through to make free mods for amazing games like this honestly says it all
Just started playing RTCW and it’s a blast, the mod is an incredible addition and enemy territory is a great multiplayer experience too.

The multiplayer was truly s-tier in the day, it wasn't really too surprising when they made a stand alone version of it.
Best Wolfenstein played through it quite a few times and never knew about this mod I'm gonna have to give it a go when the v5 drops.

A true blast from the past. Its multiplayer was free because it was a failed expansion pack and quickly became one of the hottest games at the time. Most modern games still dont have class based gameplay as good as W:ET did.

I liked RTCW MP more than I liked ET somehow. I think most of it was because of the sound design. ET had absolutely no atmosphere and the weapons, in comparison to RTCW, sounded TERRIBLE

This is the game that got me into PC Gaming. I forget how many times i played through the campaign and i used to play the multiplayer online on 56k dial up every night. Fucking good times.

RTCW Enemy territory was one of the best multiplayer shooters ever as well, absolutely brilliant.
One of my favourite ps2 games. Basically a cross between Where Eagles Dare and Raiders of the Lost Ark

The hollowing scary sound effects in this game are the same as nightmare creatures a blast from the past for those old enough to remember I’m 54 I remember. Loved this rtcw the original and played it for weeks. I have an x box one s and hope I can get this again. Infact it would be nice to see a new wolfenstein sometime soon I played ALL of them. Great times. 😊

In the xbox release there was some additional Egyptian levels as a prequel with mummies etc in if I remember right, would be great if they added that to the mod.

I loved the reboot of RTCW, this really was the golden era for 1st person shooters for me. Great games and they all really pushed the platform on the graphics front as well, it just blew my mind back in the day.
Nightdive Studios needs to remaster this.
I also hope OpenGL wrappers get worked on, so this can be remastered in NVIDIA RTX Remix. This game would looks so freaking awesome with proper lighting, not to mention goddamn scary in the catacombs.
I think a lot of the eeriness in these older games comes from the level layout. Long, blocky hallways and rooms that will give that "Luminal" space feeling. A lot of modern games are more expansive, open world based so i think less of that exists apart from a few games these days - Some thing like a Dead Space or Resident evil game might have
I thought I really enjoyed this until I started playing the multiplayer - then I knew I really enjoyed it. I still remember the surprise I could give by shooting the flamethrower under the railroad cars.
Remember when RTCW came out I couldn't believe it ran on my pc proper next gen moment I'm not surprised it's still going strong

I regularly play the 4.0 version as my “usual” method of playing the game, though I did modify the game myself to give more ammo for US weapons since this is the only Wolfenstein game that lets you play with Allied weapons for any significant time. Wonder what the 5.0 release adds over the 4.0 release, but it is neat that the mod is still being worked on.
RTCW gets overlooked so much and it easily sits near the very top of every FPs game. I played I think it was 3.0 last and damn it is so hard on max difficulty, but will def return again for the pain.
Video is so heavily compressed even at 1080p that it is almost impossible to see any improvement in the comparison around the 2:05 - 3:00 in the video. Would you consider adding 4k option if possible, please?

wish they would bring back that obscure Wolfenstein game from 2009. This one is better but I liked that game as well, it had like an rpgish feel to it and had safe zones all over the map.
This game was very formative for my teenage years. I anticipated it for months. Got it home and it didn't work on my computer. Although I got it working eventually, I can't describe the sinking feeling I got when I first booted the game and it loaded a black screen 😢

I remember my first time playing through this game on my dad's OG Xbox. My family didn't really have a PC when I was growing up. But I do think the OG Xbox verison is a solid port.

I spent so many hours on the multiplayer of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, good times.
My first pc could not play this game. The graphics were that amazing ... But it took many months before my parents allowed me to upgrade....

The adding enemies option is broken though. Because if you toggle it on soldiers start appearing in areas like in the middle of the crypt or right before the final boss (where you are supposed to be alone)
Have they brought it up to date by adding my fav, yellow paint to show the route allnover the map 😅
