- I was recently given information about this concert from my friend "thebiggestqueenfan." I downloaded it and listened to it 5 times already: It is AWESOME! Freddie is in superb shape (very daring on high notes), and with the exception of Freddie making up lyrics in the fast We Will Rock You, Freddie and the rest of Queen is in great form! Listen to Freddie sing It's Late, Spread Your Wings, and We Are The Champions! You will be amazed! This is officially my favorite 1978 gig, and my favorite NOTW tour concert!
Just imagine if they recorded this concert the way they recorded Montreal in 81...
It would be a present for the whole mankind
Pretty sure most of the late NOTW/early Jazz tour were soundboarded. Hoping that I'm right :(
@@leopard6007 I watched it that many times until now I know each and every movement that happened during that performance in Montreal!
imagine if they did that to Newcastle :0
@@Mr_Jingle Best Queen live album ever
My jaw dropped after 1:19.
1:19 - 1:25 is one of my favourite Freddie moments ever. Listen to him just bursting with energy - hell, it's better than the studio version. Sounding much like Aretha Franklin, just like he wanted.
oscar johansson yeah, fantastic!
oscar johansson. I think, technically speaking, probably this is Freddie's best live performance ever.
Oscar Johansson Was the first time I see he Sing like studio verson
@@jornaldejundiapeba5512 Eu tb xará. Alias Oscar e vc, são meus xarás...mas o Oscar na internet eu não uso embora seja meu primeiro nome..rs
Claudio Obinu definitely his best somebody to love live performance before crazy tour
It's been mentioned a thousand times in the comments, but I'll be damned when it gets old. 1:19 - 1:25 is one of the best live moments I have heard. I've been a Queen fan for 20+ years, all my life. I've seen all of concerts on video, I've heard many of these wonderful uploaded concerts, and yet after 20+ years I was blown away yet again by those vocals.
szeeq it's so amazing. My jaw literally dropped the first time I heard it. I just paused the video and processed what I just heard haha.
4:17, sounds like Freddie was really, really happy with this version, love his "yes!"
When his voice is in good shape, he sounds so excited; those nights must have been great for him. & as for those nights when he sang even though his voice was in rough shape, it must have been torturous for him; I can just about imagine it.
SomebodyLove2 I have nodules too. It's a wonderful feeling when your voice dosen't crack all over the song.
I agree with you.
Freddie particularly in 1979 was just perfect
Kilsun Lee you’re right, until Japan when his voice was disastrous, his nodules tormented him at the end of this tour.
Mike Kimble i think he means crazy tour which is after japan
2:41 - man, I'm totally rediscovering this version. Best STL ever!
It’s hammy 79
And Newcastle 79
What Newcastle ,12/3 or 12/4/79
@@pelematthews7416 12/3
This is the greatest version of STL i've ever heard. I mean, 4:08 is just indescribable!
agreed
4:16 gotta love that
My applauses for the best singer ever! 1:19 at 1:24 is bloody awesome!
Highlights:
0:23 Flat Bb4?
1:03 Nice Bb4!
1:18 Studio Phrasing!
1:47 Brian had a lot of energy!
2:29 Epic Bb4! Similar to Montreal 81...
2:42 This phrasing is very sentimental...
4:08 WOW!
4:17 YES!
Best version I `ve heard ever
so you only listen to this? ;-)
This can actually compete with 79-82 versions!!
Yes, I honestly like this more than 79 I just wish they had recorded it and have better vocal audio for Freddie like 79 or 82
@@ViciousEmpire now we have
@@SamuelVII Hi!. Where.
I dont agree. Neither in terms of high notes, sustains and passion. Imo a good version overall but not for long
@@eSeMBeKa 1:19!!! 4:08!!!
He may hit a bunch of crazy notes in the crazy tour, but I absolutely love his voice in this concert (1:19 , 4:08)
Besides, who can resist 4:17
This is news of the world tour
@@pelematthews7416 I know, I'm saying he hit more notes in the crazy tour but I like how he sounds in the NOTW tour better.
Ok, it wasn’t that explicit
@@pelematthews7416 how
One of the best Non-C5 versions!
Hopefully there will be a new Crazy tour recording with him nailing the “somebody to love” Bb4 and the outro C5 (Queen Productions, you know what I mean…)
can somebody tell me why l never get tired of listening Freddie singing this song ?
Do you still listen to queen?
Because you never know what to expect from him during live performances, but he always amazes somehow, even on an off night
Probably the best version and one of the cleanest for Freddie's voice. Actually he hit that higher l note at 1.22 a couple times more in '77 am I right?
This Rogers entrance always makes me thrill, what a great contrast to Freds voice. How I fuckin miss Fred and Queen from those times.
It's incredible how much of an easier time he has singing here as opposed to their performances in the mid 80's. 1:19 For example.
Agreed in the 70’s he had a higher pitched voice, but a weaker one than 80’s honestly I would go for 70’s due to the fact that he was able to hit these high notes. We still can’t change the fact that he was incredible in the 80’s like 81 Montreal, 82 bowl, 85 live aid, 86 Wembley. R.I.P the legend...
@@ViciousEmpire 86 Wembley was a very tired voice, i prefer Leiden, or Paris.
@@ViciousEmpire for 86, Stockholm and the 1st 2 Leidens are such excelent concerts
@@nunosa528 I dislike stockholm because his tone is so dry and just really eh for me. I prefer the Leiden gigs and basically all the shows after that before July.
This is probably the best pre-Crazy Tour version, but the best versions ever for me are Newcastle 1979 (first night) and Hammersmith 1979 (being a close second)
Glasgow & Liverpool 79 can also be close seconds
3:56 the best moment
Best no C5 version, absolutely... i forgot to take this in my top 5 of STL performances
it has a C5, 4:08
@@heatherkramer4099 That's a bb4
this version is amazing, it's similar to the studio version just that more energetic and amazing
amazing version he's in fire!
Fred, you were one vocal coach away from destroying reality as we knew it
You forgot to mention that Freddie once hit a legit non-ad-libbed C5 in 1973 during Liar
I agree with Taehyeon Lee, 4:16 was nice!
Best somebody to love from 70"s
actually most people will say Hammy 79 and Newcastle 12/3/79 are the best due to the sheer amount of high notes he hits
I like this version better though his voice is cleaner, he nails the Bb4 slide in the sustain of the second verse, and theres always 4:17 :D
@@GHENIC this is the best 1978 show for me!
@@carloseugeniocarlos4287 totally agree with you
I cannot leave this concert, or this Somebody to Love alone. It is the only time I can find where he actually goes all the way up the second time he says, "somebody to love". Totally slays me every time. He may have been as good or better in Newcastle, but the recording quality is so good here. I also like some of the things that he says to the audience throughout the concert.
Freddie's really on fire here!
Epic performance! What a power, how many high notes!
The *tears are running down from my eyes* listening to this, just awesome!!
BRBluebird do you still use this account?
HIS VOICE IS IN GREAT SHAPE
Wow somebody to love got a lot of live performances
I guess you could say it found somebody to love
1:19-1:25 WOW!!
Well I finally found a performance of this song that could give the Milton Keynes version a run for its money. Now I have two favorite live versions of STL.
I think that if he would've hit that higher note at 1:19 on the crazy tour versions that would've been awesome and really close to the studio version. Btw great rendition of the song.
Cada apresentação de somebody to Love era melhor do que a outra. 💕🤤🤤
Hadn't heard this one, wow, what a great performance, my new favorite of STL
2:40 is amazing!
This bridge is one my favorite, even if it contains two cracks, and the vocal solo from 2:38 to 2:44 is speechless! And what about the demonstration acapella concluded by a marvellous "Yes!"...
I'm surprised that no one has even mentioned that Freddie completely nails the B4 at 2:32. Definitely the best Pre-Crazy version in my book.
omfg that vibratos i can feel freddies heat here
WARNING 1:19 You may want to place your speakers facing elsewhere before you get thrown off against the wall
Stockholm was S tier in the Queen Live Performances
for some reason I just love the oooOOOOHHH at 5:00
I think that's Brian doing that!
He did it at Milton Keynes '82 as well :D
+Simon Christensen I'd say it's Freddie as you can't hear Freddie at all during that. Then when it ends Freddie's instantly singing. He did that Eb5 at Milton Keynes and other gigs too.
You hear Freddie and Roger start singing before that Eb5 is over, so it's definitely Brian.
+Simon Christensen I'm not convinced. Roger's obviously singing during
that note but Freddie starts after the note finishes. Whoever it is, I
can hear him doing an Eb4 before going one octave higher. That sounds
just like Freddie. It's pretty hard to pinpoint it all with three voices
singing pretty much simultaneously. :D
+Gregsynthbootlegs I'm not savvy at all concerning Queen bootlegs, but has Brian ever done a backing vocal bit like the Eb5 we're hearing here before? I'm mainly talking about all the STL live versions.
it is the best pre-crazy tour version by a clear mile
Yes, they do Sleeping on the Sidewalk in Portland, apparently with Freddie on vocals and also the first live performance of Im in love with my car and Love of my Life. I want to hear that concert, but there's no recording now.
Wow Mercury had super confidence in his voice this night, first show of the tour right? Just awesome, never heard him sing this well live with all the high notes
I've done it for a 1/2 hour or so, singing harmony in a group; it's hard then. He sang for what an hour an a half and sang lead; pretty miserable to do. Gotta love his work ethic and dedication to his fans.
Sounds mightier than on the studio version!
I checked out Copenhagen, & yes indeed, he did hit that note. I even listened to that one before, but had forgotten.
Somebody remaster this
unfortunately, that's not how it works
Absolutly true!!!! Goosebumbs!!!! Shivers down my spine!!!!
41 years ago today...
My favourite early live versions for sure! Better than Earl's Court 1977
OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I really missed the like button!!!! I'm so sorry!!!! Btw I absolutely Love this version. its going to my favs.
@Lawen78 It is known that Queen was thinking about releasing a live album in those years. I think this was one of the possibly shows to be released as a live album, but later Queen changed their minds. Queen always has been reluctant to release live gigs, specially from these years, while they are the most legendary in their existance, artisticly spoken. It's a fact that Freddie always pussed himself more when the show was recorded. Then he hit the high notes more.
+Gregsynthbootlegs is this the best somebody to love pre 1979?
Pretty sure this is THE best version. Possible it could be beaten by one of the Hot Space EU shows though
Might be the best live version of somebody to love, shame that it wasn’t properly recorded
Gregory Moser yeah this one's my personal favorite! There are definetely competitors though. Many people consider Newcastle 12/3 to be the best one, but Freddie's daringness and style here put it above Newcastle for me!
yeah, i wonder why queen didin't film more concerts
@IAmPlaysWithSquirrel You should listen to the Crazy Tour version. Hammersmith Odeon 1979.
great version somebody to loooooOOOOOOOOOve at 1:22 is unique !! I think is the only concert he hits that note am I right?
5:01 Freddie ???
Eb5 note!
Wow, that's high!
Dioooooooosss
cool & classic Queen song
They sure as hell sped up the song from the Races Tour to the NOTW Tour
still watching 2020
Did Freddie never hit a C5 before the Crazy Tour?
not on this song, but he did hit some c5s before the crazy tour
@@rohanr.9714 when?
@@이명신-p3t The Fairy Fellers Master Stroke Live at Rainbow march 1974

Keep Yourself Alive (Hammersmith 1975, C5 LET'S go")
Jailhouse Rock (Gothenburg 1977, C5 "You're gonna DO 'em")
We Will Rock You (Copenhagen 1978, C5 "gonna be a big MAN someday")
It was played in Boston 12/11/1977 aswell
@5:00 Freddie's falsetto!
1:19 I got fucking launched against the wall
5:01 That high note is freddie, right?
It is!
Yep!
Nope, that’s Brian. He (Brian) does this more on later versions, but Freddie didn’t use falsetto in that range at this time due to his modules.
@PpCuyPlay you can hear the same falsetto tone singing underneath freddie slightly later on, so it has to be brian (since roger sings over it)
Absolutly true!!!!!!
I like this more than newcastle, i can see why newcastle is good tho (2 Cs and a C#5) ive always hated the newcastle one tho especially the “Face no defeat” i like it better when he just does the Bb4 on “Face” not the over sung C5, also 1:18 is incredible here, maybe he went for it in earlier crazy tour shows.
@Gregsynthbootlegs And don't forget the European leg of the Hot Space tour.
I just realized
is Freddie singing the Eb5 in the outro? It sure sounds like him and his voice kinda slides into his next vocals
Boredom thats rogers f5
@@rylancooks1235 1. Roger sounds nothing like that. Either Freddie or Brian. 2. That is not an F5, its an Eb5/D#5, idk look it up or something
@@rylancooks1235 if you're talking about roger his highest note in the outro is a c#5
Does Freddie say *what do you know about Great King Rat* at the end?!
GREG HOW DID YOU SKIP MENTIONING THIS SONG WHEN YOU WROTE THE DESCRIPTION? Like, I know it's from 2010, and we don't talk about those descriptions (*shudder) but even so, HOW DID YOU MISS THIS?
Before the crazy tour haha
This or hammersmith?
At 5:58 it sounds like Brian is starting to play Pilate's Dream from Jesus Christ Superstar
Somebody post a remastered please
***** Will you "remaster" this show some day, EQ it a bit and fix the speed? :)
***** That'd be awesome!
Ended up doing it myself when I uploaded the show on my channel :p

alguien sabe donde descargar este concierto please!!!!!
1:23 is this the only time he did it?
No.Friddie sing like that in some of NOTW tour. But this stockholm live was the last version...
@@user-vb1eg4py4m 1년전 5집 투어에서도 4번씩이나 했답니다!!
He also nailed that Bb4 note at ADATR tour 4 times!!
He gets it at Stockholm 77, Gothenburg 77, Copenhagen 77, Bristol 77, and Stockholm 78
Any other times that Freddie hit the Bb4 at 1:22 in Somebody To Love?
Baby, you're all good in here yup, Copenhagen 1979
On one of the races euro leg tour versions, he attempts it. Can't remember which one.
Stockholm 1977, Gothenburg 1977, Copenhagen 1977, Glasgow 1977 (They are all from EU Races Tour!
1:15
Why he never got that note Can anybody find me? I think when on shape he could have gotten it with ease. I can't figure it out.
He preferred to sing it using the melody he’d originally written for that line. Plus, if he’d gone for that note, he would have messed up the arrangement with Brian and Roger’s parts.
I think it was to create harmony with roger, who sang the Ab4 on "me". I personally prefer it when he sticks to that lower note there
Anyone knows another version on where Freddie hits 1:19 - 1:25 like the Studio Version?
Bristol 77 and Stockhom 77
Gothenburg 1977, Copenhagen 1977
Can you point me to some other shows where Freddie attempted the high note at 1:22?
Will Drummer Bi Leighton In Copenhagen 1979 he hit it.
its not just me right, there is a lot of static on the left. I love this rendition of STL, but the static being left biased makes it unbearable to listen to.
+Gregsynthbootlegs yeah that's true. the thing that brings me back to this recording all the time is Freddie's voice. it's in such good shape!
its true
I don't understand why he never gets the note at 0:44 even when on shape. I think he could've done it.
what do you mean? he hit that note
marriusmal harmony
To create harmony with roger.
Did he ever hit this note 1:18 during 79-82?
Nick Brennan I don't think so, but he hit it before this concert a few times. This is definetely the best time he did it though.
@@MrSuperMarioKid Yeah I know but 79-82 is considered to be Freddie's vocal prime so I was hoping he hit that note during that period.
Nick Brennan he definitely could have, but the band just didn't plan it out that way I suppose. If he hit that note during Newcastle 12/3, it would be nearly perfect lol.
The fuck are you guys talking about. Thats a measly G#4, he belted it out in every STL performance you can think.
Hey what's the note of 4:17 the YES!?
Peter Kagkas probably bb4
4:41 Ab2 or dark Ab3?
What's dark Ab3 :D
4:17 Great ,what note is this?
CARLOS EUGENIO CARLOS sounds like Bb4 or something
