Today we hunt for the bottom of the barrel shiny pokemon. I may or may not have regrets. More Pokemon: • Pokemon! Sometimes I hunt live on stream so drop a follow :) / gungn1r_
To me, the worst looking shinies are the subtle shiny Pokémon. For me, the idea of shinies is that they're supposed to be unique and different, and the subtle ones are, in my opinion, just barely different. Most you can only tell they're shiny from the stars, instead of when the sprite first appears on screen. The heavy green shinies don't bother me nearly as much, but I can understand people's dislike of them. Great vid, and thanks for the suffering, my dude lol. Later.
YESSS my gripes with some shiny pokemon is either that their color choice is plain unflattering, or that they do not look shiny. "This is a shiny!" Oh so you shifted the blue color on hex number-
the very common examples of this being garchomp and gengar, shinies are genetic mutations that are supposed to alter nothing more than appearance yet gamefreak says “fuck you” and casually gives pokemon like gible and ghastly some of the coolest shinies and then the final stages just get to look like they havent seen any sunlight since they were born and got paler
Honestly I think it just depends. Garchomp looks awful, but Pokémon like Pikachu and Gengar look great despite the slight shift. Pikachu going from yellow > gold and Gengar going from purple > black is amazing.
@IJustAnimateThatsTheJistpikachus aint even remotely subtle, it turns dark orange rather than piss yellow, and gengar dont even turn black it turns another shade of purple
@SongokuJidai the fact they changed charizards shiny to be more appealing makes me question why they didnt do it to others (to losers, purple zard is supreme)
@SongokuJidaiSnot Green lowk looks good on Joleton, and puke green looks good on sudo-woodo, different shades of green look good on different kinds of Pokémon
I think the reason people tend to dislike subtle shinies is because when catching a very rare and shiny pokemon, we want them to look special, which feels good and gives bragging rights for luck/patience required to get one. Instead we end up with a tanned Pikachu.
I loveeeee subtle pokemon shinies, normally* the ones with those shinies don’t really need all that big of a change, tbf I think guardchomps in dpp needs to be darker but I love shiny Gengar, Pichu, Blissy, Basculin and all those other goofs. (Tbf tho I am a huge hater of ‘popular’ shinies like mega Gengar, rayquaza and greninja so 😭)
listen, not my fault I don’t wanna shiny that looks like it just came from hot topic. Ugly tar covered shiny. Not all shinies need to be super different bruh
to the pokeball* also nobody’s forcing you to catch ‘em shiny, if the shiny is oh so bad to you then don’t catch/use it. Just don’t whine about it to me bruh
Reminds me of that meme image, that all shiny pokemon can be grouped into one of four categories. The ones that look better than the original palette, the ultra subtle hue shift, GREEN, and The FABULOUS! Also I agree with the masses with Dragonite's Shiny being bad. Not because it's a bad shiny, but because like Nidoqueen, we have this lovely pink color for the first two shiny evolution stages and then we take a hard turn into Green at the final evolution. Look me in the eye and tell me Pink Dragonite would not go hard.
While pink dragonite would definitely not look bad, the regular color also has blue for the first two stages and takes a hard turn into yellow at the final evolution.
counter point, you're wrong :) Green Dnite looks objectively better than pink would, green is beautiful and the purple wings look so unique with it. Pink is too bright and is a gross, girly color >:)
A sudden heelturn in the design philosophy is the entire joke with Dragonite, so having a pink shiny wouldn't make much sense. Dragonite is very desaturated, but besides that it's a good shiny.
I like Nidoqueen's and Dragonite's shinies - - on their own. But I completely agree that we got cheated out of some cool pink shinies if following the trend through the evolutions. Aside from the nearly universal dislike of subtle shinies, my other least favorite Gen 1 is something like Clefairy (tips of ears) or Jigglypuff (eyes). They're not bad but they are underwhelming. And I think my favorite Gen 1 shiny is maybe Zubat/Golbat. It's a pleasing color combination.
i find shiny clefairy and clefable really cute ngl. it's only changing the ears, sure, but it's a really bright and noticeable change that fits the quirkiness of the 'mon
I don't necessarily care about how GOOD the colors are, just so long as they're different enough to instantly recognize that it's shiny in the first place.
Shiny dragonite had the biggest glow up across the newer gen games tbh but i guess i could see why people don't like his old color if they were already used to seeing him in his newer color form
Seel and Dewgong are so bad that I paused the video to check if you didn't accidentally use the normal sprites. Most subtle shines are bad enough, but I wouldn't even call those subtle. They're impossible to tell if you don't have the normal ones next to them. I'm surprised you didn't go for Nidoran on Route 3 so you could start using Shinies ASAP. (I get why you waited on Pikachu though. Being rarer in Viridian Forest than the Power Plant and practically impossible to beat Brock would be painful.) It's an interesting coincidence that all 6 Shinies were found on Japanese games.
I love that you brought up elekid because I was nuzlocking radical red like 2 years ago and I remember one time my encounter was shiny elekid and i laughed because I didn't know it was shiny until it evolved so my first encounter on a route was shiny and didn't even know it
I’m so glad you talked about how Gengar’s shiny used to look so good!! Yeah, it’s shiny is disappointing now a days, but like, gen 3 shiny Gengar? It looks really good! Edit: I agree with your list more than the six that ended up being the team, but I kinda wanna share my six worst, in no particular order: Chansey Cloyster (I stand by Cloyster would look better with Shellder’s orange) Farfetch’d Slowpoke Nidoquen Vileplume
I still don't like Gengar's shiny even in gen 3. It basically just desaturates it and makes it less colorful. It's better than it is now, but still, no thanks
The list honestly doesn't surprise me, since green shinies are so unpopular (though I quite love most of them!). I know there's a bias against subtle shinies as well, but to me, Gengar looks insanely good up until HGSS, then it's okay until gen 6+. Gengar and Tauros got done majorly dirty in terms of 3D shinies imo. But I digress - other than being afraid I would miss the Pikachu, I actually really like all the shinies on this team! Jolteon is a personal favorite of mine. Also, love your editing style! The part at 6:33 was so satisfying for me lol. Thanks for taking the time to go through these hunts, and congrats on your well-deserved shinies! Here's hoping your Safari Zone luck turns around!
I might be wrong but didnt the older games just use an algorythm to generate the shiny varients instead of them being made by hand? I swear I remembered hearing something about in one of the newer gens they "finalyl started making the shinies from scratch" or something
i remember finding a green gastly as a kid and being so confused lol. I had to google what was going on, then was super disapointed at gengars shiny but i still have it. i lost my main save due to corruption but for some reason it was on another cartridge.
The funny thing is that as a child, having played all the Pokémon on the Gameboy, gmboy color, NDS, n3ds etc... I had never found a shiny, I discovered their existence only decades later on youtube, like years ago, crazy.
The best shiny Mons are usually the pink ones. Somehow turning Mons pink pretty much always works. Best shiny run soon? Does having the drip translate into play?
Found my shiny eevee in 651 encounters while watching!! Seeing you go over 30,000 encounters scared me at first especially since my last 2 shinies were fast, but so happy I got it!!
I think the reason Snorlax is there is because people just picture normal Snorlax as being that shade of blue, mainly because as time goes on it keeps getting less and less turquoise
Never thought about Shiny Jolteon but somehow the green suits him and looks nice at least in that sprite, reminds me old 2000 radioactive cool look some things had and i felt the nidorina running away in my soul
I just came across this video but it was awesome! It reminded me of myself in a way when I was younger. Shiny magikarp will forever be my favorite because it’s the first wild shiny I saw from a friend as a kid. The gold is perfect. The safari zone is the first spot I found I shiny on ruby and it was a seaking in the safari zone…. And it fled 😭
My first shiny was a raticate just east of ectruteak city about 3 months after gold silver came out.... didn't know what i found byt j knew it was special... i didnt catch it had 2 pokeballs and 3 or 4 great balls at the time and lost it, but i remember it to this day!

How are you able to run and reset like 4 games at once? I want to shiny hunt too but im stuck with the good old gba resetting 😅 Is there a video or site explaining how?😊

I don’t see the dislike for most green shinies tbh, I love shiny jolteon and shiny Sudo-Wudo
the bias against green shinies is wild. I love that look
Espeon is a god tier shiny
@goldennugget2562 i can't believe jolt made it into this video bro
@SongokuJidai the fact they changed charizards shiny to be more appealing makes me question why they didnt do it to others (to losers, purple zard is supreme)
green jolteon not that bad
@SongokuJidaiSnot Green lowk looks good on Joleton, and puke green looks good on sudo-woodo, different shades of green look good on different kinds of Pokémon

weirdo@Definitelysomething
listen, not my fault I don’t wanna shiny that looks like it just came from hot topic. Ugly tar covered shiny. Not all shinies need to be super different bruh
Dude i aint hunting couple days for a shiny that looks like it got slightly dirtied on the way to pokeball@Definitelysomething
to the pokeball* also nobody’s forcing you to catch ‘em shiny, if the shiny is oh so bad to you then don’t catch/use it. Just don’t whine about it to me bruh
tbh, i never understood the shiny dragonite hate.
my jaw fucking dropped when i saw it as #2 worst
Fun fact, there’s only about a 1.71% chance to go that over odds on that eevee.
Reminds me of that meme image, that all shiny pokemon can be grouped into one of four categories. The ones that look better than the original palette, the ultra subtle hue shift, GREEN, and The FABULOUS!

While pink dragonite would definitely not look bad, the regular color also has blue for the first two stages and takes a hard turn into yellow at the final evolution.
I agree. While i think Dragonite's shiny is fairly good, we were absolutely robbed of pink Dragonite.
I personally think it was to pinpoint the monstrous color palette change that normal dragonair -> dragonite had and continue the trend.
counter point, you're wrong :)
Green Dnite looks objectively better than pink would, green is beautiful and the purple wings look so unique with it. Pink is too bright and is a gross, girly color >:)
A sudden heelturn in the design philosophy is the entire joke with Dragonite, so having a pink shiny wouldn't make much sense.
Dragonite is very desaturated, but besides that it's a good shiny.
The fact that he went 4 TIMES OVER ODDS looking for shiny eevee, finally getting it, only to evolve it into jolteon really says a lot about this guy.
I have a Shiny Magikarp. It's so cool looking but also shiny Garydps is so easy to get, I don't reverb want to evolve it
@WonKk-h3bmake it a level 100 splash magikarp
@WonKk-h3b I would 100% keep it as a Magikarp.
i mean if you got the eevee to evolve it into a jolteon and you spent that much time you might as well do what you were planning on
"Nope can't do it oh god!" That made me chuckle.
I really like shiny kangaskhan. It suits the weird gen 1 pokemon vibe. I think the green and silver is unique and gets across that its a rare pokemon.
Ghastly is one of my first and also favourite shinies, I'm happy you came across it!
Dragonite is the most over hated shiny. It's a legitimately nice looking colour palette. Green is also a classic dragon colour.
I can agree that it's a better green than most other green shinies, but c'mon, WHY ISN'T IT PINK
I think it's because the first two evolutions are good, it hurts worse to go from good to meh than to just have meh
@WhiteWolf-lm7gjDragonites shiny is 10x better than his prevos
@ThePersonInOrange why is dragonite orange and not blue? I think it having a different shiny color makes sense
@mikeycarrero6501 blue dragonite would go _extremely_ hard for me
The terraria guy makes Pokémon
I like Nidoqueen's and Dragonite's shinies - - on their own. But I completely agree that we got cheated out of some cool pink shinies if following the trend through the evolutions. i find shiny clefairy and clefable really cute ngl. it's only changing the ears, sure, but it's a really bright and noticeable change that fits the quirkiness of the 'mon
I once caught an amazing shiny Zubat. I'll always hold it in high regards, all evolutions
I don't necessarily care about how GOOD the colors are, just so long as they're different enough to instantly recognize that it's shiny in the first place.
Fr this is the reason why I started to hate Pikachu even more
Agreed 100%. Yhe worst shinies are the ones that barely look any different to the regular ones. Even ugly ones can be beautiful in their ugliness. 😂
It’s crazy that you condense months of time into a 21:41 video
Shiny dragonite had the biggest glow up across the newer gen games tbh but i guess i could see why people don't like his old color if they were already used to seeing him in his newer color form
The fact that you released the magikarp hurt me so much as shiny gyarados is my favorite
Flareon looks way worse for shinies
I instantly assumed it would be Flareon, though green is my favorite color so I didn't even consider Jolteon.
It's my favorite pokemon but I would still agree with you. Shiny jolteon is ugly imo but flareon is worse for simply not having a shiny.
I agree although I admittedly like Shiny Jolteon in the newer games where it's inner ear is purple
I love several of these shinies and i can totally see this team being someones dream team quest😭
The gengar one just tells me people didn't know what was being asked or they didn't actually care to check old gengar
I *LOVE* my moldy Octillery 😂
It's *golden*
All of these except shiny Seaking are such hot takes.
Huh, blue Snorlax looks closer to how I usually see him and makes the cyan look like the weird one when side-by-side.
shiny weepinbell looks as if you somehow became colorblind while looking at it
Everyone hates the green shinies, but the sunburnt ones are way worse
Seel and Dewgong are so bad that I paused the video to check if you didn't accidentally use the normal sprites. Most subtle shines are bad enough, but I wouldn't even call those subtle. They're impossible to tell if you don't have the normal ones next to them.

Hey, I like Octillery's shiny!
4 days of your existence went to hunting that Eevee
8:15 it looks like a poo that you call the doctor in a panic over
I love that you brought up elekid because I was nuzlocking radical red like 2 years ago and I remember one time my encounter was shiny elekid and i laughed because I didn't know it was shiny until it evolved so my first encounter on a route was shiny and didn't even know it
wait i thought this was the worst shinies vid..
I’m so glad you talked about how Gengar’s shiny used to look so good!! Yeah, it’s shiny is disappointing now a days, but like, gen 3 shiny Gengar? It looks really good!
Edit: I agree with your list more than the six that ended up being the team, but I kinda wanna share my six worst, in no particular order:
Chansey
Cloyster (I stand by Cloyster would look better with Shellder’s orange)
Farfetch’d
Slowpoke
Nidoquen
Vileplume
I still don't like Gengar's shiny even in gen 3. It basically just desaturates it and makes it less colorful. It's better than it is now, but still, no thanks
Shiny weavile is gross looking imo
wtf shiny dragonite is fucking goated

Also, love your editing style! The part at 6:33 was so satisfying for me lol. Thanks for taking the time to go through these hunts, and congrats on your well-deserved shinies! Here's hoping your Safari Zone luck turns around!
Pokemon but I suffer the entire time
he sounds like small ant while playing pokemon
thats a weird looking crabulon
I am not gonna be able to see seaking the same way again
Dragonite being there offended me, lol
So far, ive seen ppl having the most luck on Japanese copies
At this point my brain gonna make Gungnir as a synonym for self-punishment
ur spitting so hard with the subtle shiny bit, i thought i was the only one who felt that way
6:33 That was gooood 😂
'nightmare team quest' was a great name for something like this lol
1:21 Roscoe is my actual dog’s name
3:48 It reminds me of mtn dew and that's awesome that shiny rules
Leave octillary out of this
This is the opposite of a speed run
oh no, having to use a shiny gengar... what a travesty...
I love watching videos of things I will never experience. Great work!
The Japanese game carried this run
it's insane that there was such a subtle shiny hatred yet persian didn't make the cut. that shiny is genuinely insulting
the white mega gengar is such a glow up for gengar
Thanks for the peak content Gungnir
I might be wrong but didnt the older games just use an algorythm to generate the shiny varients instead of them being made by hand? I swear I remembered hearing something about in one of the newer gens they "finalyl started making the shinies from scratch" or something
On one hand, id love to see you do Terraria Journey Mode All Items Researched, its a fun journey, on the other hand, 137 hours...
I started to like shiny dragonite when i realised it looked like those classic green dragons
I think dragonite looks a lot better in the newer games. The green becomes a lot more vibrant
Man, thats some real commitment! Loved the vid :)
8:29 brother in christ its turd brown green
i remember finding a green gastly as a kid and being so confused lol. I had to google what was going on, then was super disapointed at gengars shiny but i still have it. i lost my main save due to corruption but for some reason it was on another cartridge.

I love subtle shinies, Gengar looks amazing
Oh dang, I had completely forgotten about that survey! Congrats on finally getting this completed hahah
Black shiny onix would go HARD
i like gengar shiny so much , its so cool
Never thought about Shiny Jolteon but somehow the green suits him and looks nice at least in that sprite, reminds me old 2000 radioactive cool look some things had and i felt the nidorina running away in my soul
Shiny Rayquaza looks dope
Safari Zone is shiny-pain. If I ever encountered one I would cry
shiny hunting while watching a video on shiny hunting 😎
You think jolteon is bad and snorlax is good? Serial killer vibes
People think green shinies suck. Does that mean people think my green clothes aren't drippy???
New gungnir video, lets gooooo
elekid shiny is much more subtle in switch games
I want a blue or white jolteon as its shiny varient. Battery acid green doesnt cut it for me
I WILL NOT STAND FOR OCTILLERY SLANDER
octillery disrespect will not be tolerated
YOO MA MAN!! 🤝
anyone notice he found all shinies o. pn japanese version 😂😂
I failed a Nidoran male on my fire Red run in the Safari zone too :(
I think Pikachu got a subtle shiny because it’s the mascot. They want consistency for it rather than dramatically different forms.
Luckily, I like green. Wish Jolteon was darker though.
Love it when Gungnir uploads.
i feel like youre lying. stop lying NOW
"We all know it's Jolteon" actually I assumed Flareon
Who were the top 10 BEST shinies on your list?
That was so unexpected .. you put Shiny Seaking as your #1 least favorite.. my one and only shiny pokemon
Shiny Jolteon is really good imo, but shiny Flareon is like "why bother?"
Tossing that Shiny Magikarp outta box is so painful to watch....
Right?!? It's literally GOLD
I don't even care to evolve it. Just keep the golden fish.
I think the hate behind Seaking Shiny is because of its appearance in the Trainer Tower on Seven Island
i saw a youtuber get a shiny snorlax on their first nuzlock
How did you trade between games?
My first shiny was a raticate just east of ectruteak city about 3 months after gold silver came out.... didn't know what i found byt j knew it was special... i didnt catch it had 2 pokeballs and 3 or 4 great balls at the time and lost it, but i remember it to this day!
20:20 Green? It is most definitely gold or perhaps sand. I actually had to launch photoshop and inspect the colors to make sure I wasn't going crazy.
the green is evident. it is its strongest RGB component but not by much. sand is a pretty good term but it still has a notable green tone.
someone with a weakened green receptor in their eye would have a lot of trouble with this color; in the most respectful way possible, you may want to look into low-tier colorblindness (where a cone isn't completely missing but is reduced)
2:06 dewgong is my fav pokemon and I use my master ball to catch it because he is my first shiny
I do all my shiny hunts in gen 4 when i can use pokeradar and masuda (ugh). Something to inprove the chances from utterly ridiculous and miserable
great music used in the video
How are you able to run and reset like 4 games at once? I want to shiny hunt too but im stuck with the good old gba resetting 😅 Is there a video or site explaining how?😊
