I bought a 2013 for 6200 bucks with 32k miles on it. We use it to commute (car pool) to work (26 miles) everyday and run ALL of our errands or doc appointments. It is by far a perfect town car. Momma and I have gone as long as 6 weeks without starting my truck or her car. It truly does 95% of our driving needs. It will do 88 mph but eats power. When I have to use the freeway I just go 55. You gave me range anxiety just by looking at your miles left. You said you're close to home but you kept driving and driving while the 3 miles turns into 1.
Thanks for a great review - I leased a 2014 BMW i3, loved the performance, capacity, responsiveness and quirky looks - I installed a level 2 charger in the garage and signed up for the off-peak charge rates and had no problems with the car. Once the lease expired we really wanted a vastly longer range so looked at the Bolt or a Used Tesla Model S (the Model 3 was still challenging to get) So we eventually replaced it by buying (we really did not enjoy the lease end process - and to be sure I got the full tax rebate instead of the lessor) a 2018 Chevy Bolt Premier - which we both really love to drive and which works with the level 2 charger. Having retired recently, my wife was increasingly using the Bolt instead of her gas powered sports car. Since I do most of the local errands in the dry parts of the year using my bike we decided to sell her gas powered car while it still had decent resale value. Being a strict one-car household has its drawbacks so we are looking at a really inexpensive used 2013 Fiat 500e to bump us up to a one-and-a-half car household so we have alternate short-range transport as needed :)
thank you for the detailed information. No other 500e review outlined the a/c in hot weather like this video. did you realize thar you drove for about 10 minutes with 03 miles left? how is that possible?
Its just like a gas car.....the first of the tank goes fast the the last comes off slow. Its just not linier is all. I have driven home many a time at 0
The 'range meter' clearly showed zero miles remaining, yet he drove for almost 12 minutes at 30 to 40 mph. Obviously the display is VERY conservative and it has much more range than it implies...the one thing I'm still not used to in my recently acquired 500e. The used 2015 I picked up is still amazing me five months later. The torque allows me to surprise other vehicles off the line. It's unfortunate the vehicle is limited to only 88 mph..it feels like it just wants to keep pulling. The handling? Even though it runs on low rolling resistance, skinny tires (185s), it still handles the 3000 lb vehicle weight quite well. That 700 lb battery pack sitting between both axles and 12 inches off the ground give it excellent balance. Completely trouble free. One wish: just another 25 miles of range would be perfect for LA area commuting. The 2020 500e gets a 253 mile range by the way...
I wouldn't trust the range estimator i normally take off an extra 10 miles for lights at night time and some times it will still leave me on the side of the road.
I like the Fiat 500e a lot but the average trip to town and back for me is 97 miles round-trip. If this car had 125 miles of range I’d get one in a heartbeat.
Really like your review of the 500e. I've just been researching used EV's and found the Fiat appealing. Having leased gas engine cars in the past I'm curious if you'd share what the experience was like returning your lease? Did you have to come up with a lot of cash? Anyhow, thanks for putting that review out there.
Hi Chuck, I'm not sure if my lease return process would be a good guide for you. When I returned this 3yrs later our original Fiat dealer closed down. I had to drive the car 150 miles for return. Asides from that, it was drama free.
Hey there! I just got a FIAT 500e and I'm not gonna lie am immediately having buyers remorse haha! I live in LA and commute about 15 miles one was for work so thought it would be the perfect car for me. So far I've been driving it around this weekend and I'm a little concerned because for example I charged it for about 2 hours and it went from 37 miles to 90 miles. I then drove the car, windows down, just music on but no AC/Heat and I leave 4.4 miles away from where I charged it. The range is already 78! WHAT THE HECK??? I'm not driving very fast because I'm honestly afraid it'll drain it faster. It's a used 2016 Fiat 500e w/ 15,180 miles on it. Am I totally loosing my mind? Is this what I should expect?!?!? I'll have to charge every day at this rate lol
The guess'o'meter range gauge on the car is imperfect. It will go up and down especially going up and down hills and with the AC on. 30 mile round-trip is no prob at all but I always recommend to my friends that they have a place to charge the car each day... Whether that be at work or home.
@@RyuMoto Okay so you think one or the other is more than fine then? Because I unfortunately wont be able to have one installed at my current LA apartment.

My commute is 40 miles all highway speed. Can this car make it? I do have an electric station at work. I'm curious how it will do going 70-75mph for 40 miles.

Yes, one recall for a software update that would discharge the aux 12v battery. We had left it after a 3wk vacation and the aux battery was dead. Fiat flashed the ECU and put in a new 12V battery.
David Lutz my commute has changed enough that I'm not urgently in need of an EV. We're in the list for a Model 3 but keep getting delayed so the excitement is wearing out there. The deal Socal Edison and BMW is giving on the i3 is interesting.
electric drive is still a no go for me. I can not put the power cord from the 4th floor down from the balcony 50 meters to my car and I don t want to charge it in the city waiting an hour in the sunmer heat. -.-
@@rsstnnr76 I was in the market for one about 2yrs ago. This was when they were coming off leases and Fiat were just auctioning them off fire sale style. It was easy to find 30-50k mile units for under $10k at the time, but by the time I was ready prices crept up quickly. I believe this was because they started heavily exporting them to Scandinavian countries and Europe in general. It's nice to see the prices have dropped a bit but not sure what kind of mileage are on these cars now. With that said.. I wouldn't have any problem driving this car past 100k. Yes, that's correct. I just picked up (bought) a used BMW i3. Posted a video on that if you're interested.
Great review. One thing that I captured from the assessment, this will not work as a single vehicle in the household.
