    Thank you very much for this review. Though i have some questions. You said it can have added mics. But can you add Wide View lenses? or Fisheye lens to it? And how much does Wide angle lens cost?
    Thank You. 5 Stars.

    ...2) Are you sure theres no way to manually change where the camera focuses, like when you were focusing on the bird and the leaves were blurred, is there any way to blur the bird and focus on the leaf?
    Thanks a lot you've been really helpful so far.

  • @Gooozers
    @Gooozers 14 лет назад

    ok thats fine for me because i could use programs to edit that hiss sound. Also when the footage is deinterlaced with sony vegas for example, is there ghosting. If there is, is it noticable especially with fast moving scenes.

    thanks for your answear it was very kind from you to answear in a so short time - and now I have another question I need to know - somewhere it is said that canon hf200 works with BP 808 battery and somewhere else someone says it works with BP-809 so wich is the true or both are the true because may be those two kind of battery are compatible to each others so could I know from you Because now I trust only you wich is the tru about the battery - I need to know before to buy this camera .

  • @TheCanadianPublic
    @TheCanadianPublic  14 лет назад

    It depends on the software you use to view and edit the footage. Your best bet might be to use the 30P mode, labeled as PF30 in the menus. In Sony Vegas Platinum, I don't need to deinterlace a PF30 source to make it look progressive. The software seem to figure it out all on its own.
    Can you bring an empty memory card to the store and record some footage in each mode before buying? Make sure you pan the camcorder quickly enough to make the interlaced image "comb."

  • @lSFlMecha
    @lSFlMecha 15 лет назад

    I'd like to correct myself; I hadn't realized that it was the same mic with a wind filter attached. I did some searching, and found that it retails for $150 US. Is it worth it, in your opinion? I plan to use the HF200 for film production, so I don't want to let money to go waste.

  • @Gooozers
    @Gooozers 14 лет назад

    I can't record because im thinking of buying online, there were no stores around me that sells it. So if i dont use software, would the 30p and 24p modes be interlaced? Is the only way to make the footage progessive by using editing software? The footage i would like to take is progressive and not interlaced.

  • @Gooozers
    @Gooozers 14 лет назад

    Well, i watched videos on youtube and other video websites, and i have read many good review about it. So it doesnt really matter for me if i dont see the raw footage. I was just wondering if i can shoot 30 or 24 progressive frames with no interlacing. Also if it is interlaced, do you need software like Sony Vegas de-interlace it.

  • @lSFlMecha
    @lSFlMecha 15 лет назад

    Hello, I've got a question regarding the hardware shown on this video. What microphones did you use on the HF200, and are either of them any good?

  • @Gooozers
    @Gooozers 14 лет назад

    I'll probably do some editing before i upload videos to youtube. But if i just show the raw footage on my lcd television, will it be interlaced at 30p or 24p?

    I have a question for you if I bought this camcorder to use on vacation but only have my laptop with me to store captured video so I don't have to purchase several SD cards, do I need a powerful laptop if just to store and bring home until I get to my pc to do editing?

    @TheCanadianPublic Please ! Please can you tell me how to reduce the size of the .mts because when i record the size is big that worries me alot. how can i reduce the size and at the same time maintain the video quality as you did. which software do you use to make this trick.
    secondly i want my videos to be not more than 720 HD that is enough to me,
    and how do you edit the videos, i will be more happy if you show us a tutorial or please share with us step by step. thanks in advance

    How did you do it with the HV20? Aside from a slight difference in the resolution, both are still 60i HD camcorders. Whatever technique you already use for the HV20 SHOULD also work for the HF200.
    I figure it's all a matter of recording at the highest possible frame rate and shutter speed in order to properly immobilize the action.

  • @DavidPhilp81
    @DavidPhilp81 15 лет назад

    You're right, highest frame rate and shutter speed, was just curious because I've never recorded on a flash based camera before. Would you recommend the 24mb/s stream for best results?

    ok thanks for all your answers, i just have 2 more questions (sigh) lol,
    1) If my computer is not good enough to play the files, and i render a video with the files in sony vegas, will the final video be laggy or skippy, will there be any disadvantages to the video quality to someone with a computer better suited for the camera....?

  • @IpodAppsEverywhere
    @IpodAppsEverywhere 15 лет назад

    how in the world do you get such good quality ): i have the same cannon hf200 and use iMovie to export. but do you know how i could achieve the same quality in imovie? every time i try to upload to youtube it really turns out bad! even when i apply a 1080p format through imovie.

  • @TheCanadianPublic
    @TheCanadianPublic  14 лет назад

    The case is from Lowepro, and I believe it's the Rezo 60 model. It's long enough to hold the camcorder with the higher capacity BP-819 battery.

  • @Gooozers
    @Gooozers 14 лет назад

    Im thinking about buying the hf200, but after reading a few reviews im a little confused. I understand that the hf200 records in 60i, 30p and in 24p. But the 30p and 24p are recorded in a 60i container. Does this mean that 30p and 24p are interlaced or progressive?

    what player can i use to view my canon hf200 beside using the software from the cd the camera came with.

  • @Gooozers
    @Gooozers 14 лет назад

    Just out of curiosity, when you import raw 30p and 24p footage onto your computer, without any editing what so ever, do you see any interlacing at all? I cant tell the interlacing on other youtube videos because as you said it probably filters the interlacing. If this camcorder only shows interlaced footage in all settings, do you have any other recommendations around $500 that films in true progressive. I really like the quality produced from this camcorder, but i dont like the interlacing.

    @TheCanadianPublic Oh sorry yes, I was thinking of the HF S200. I compared the S200 and M30 this morning in the store just to get an idea of what I would be losing with a 10x optical zoom instead of 15x, and I was surprised, it really seemed like 10x was fine. I am able to get the S200 at $499 through a family member who works at Canon so I am super tempted to just get it. Have you tried it and if so is there anything that would make you recommend against it?

  • @TheCanadianPublic
    @TheCanadianPublic  15 лет назад

    Have you tried copying the files directly from the SD card instead of using the software to transfer them over?
    Also:
    - What kind of processor do you have on your computer? You're best off with a quad-core processor.
    - Does your video editing software actually support HD material?

  • @TheCanadianPublic
    @TheCanadianPublic  14 лет назад

    What's the model number of your processor? If it supports hyperthreading, you might need to disable it in the BIOS. I've had big problems with it when rendering videos.
    You'll also need to go into the options page of Vegas and set the number of threads to a minimum of 2.
    Finally, are you using a proper video card in your rig? Some on-board video chips can't handle hi-def video. It doesn't have to be a high-end card though. Something like an ATI 4350 will do fine.
    Good luck!

    on the canon vixia, after connecting to the computer to transfer video on the screen it reads. "DO NOT DISCONNECT THE USB CABLE OR THE POWER SOURCE WILE THE CAMCORDER IS CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER. CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAMCORDER OR CHANGE TH OPERATING MOD". So I would like to know after transfering video to computer how do i turn it off or disconnet.

  • @TheCanadianPublic

    Out of curiosity, when are you planning to purchase the camcorder?
    If you can find the HF200 for about $500, not only might it be worth it, there might also be a way for you to cheat. It came to me when I purchased the Canon HF R10 for an upcoming review, and I was trying to figure out how to optimize its use considering the image sensor is LESS than 1920x1080 pixels. The technique I'll be using on the HF R10 could also be used on the HF200.
    More on this in my upcoming HF R10 review.

  • @TheCanadianPublic
    @TheCanadianPublic  15 лет назад

    Press the "Func." button, it's in the first row of options. "P" for automatic, "Tv" for manual shutter, "Av" for manual aperture. Move over to the manual adjustment you want to change, and press the "Set" button to adjust the value.
    If you want to adjust the aperture at the same time as the shutter speed, get out of the menus, push the joystick upward, and select the "+/-" settings. This is a relative adjustment, and not an absolute adjustment like in the "Av" mode.

    I play my raw videos either with Zoom Player or VLC Media Player. Both packages include deinterlacers which, depending on the computer system, may have to be turned on manually.
    As for exactly which camcorders out there record in true progressive, I have no idea. Trying to get exact specifications from the manufacturers is nearly impossible.

    I just use the DVD Architect Studio software that came with my Vegas Platinum.
    Project->Make Movie, Burn to DVD.
    Vegas will automatically render the files in the proper format. You might have to experiment with the deinterlacing setting in your project properties to find the one that works best for you.

    Are you planning to upload the raw footage directly on RUclips? If so, you might not need to deinterlace anything. RUclips's encoders should do it for you.
    However, I've never tried to upload raw footage on RUclips; I always edit my stuff first. So I don't know if RUclips can handle raw MTS/M2T files.

    @stingoh No. It's 15x. You might have gotten your models mixed up. There's no HS 200 model out there, but there is a higher quality and more expensive HF S200 model available which does have a 10x optical zoom. This review however is for the HF200 model.

    BTW - Have you tried the Sanyo XActi HD 1010 or 2000 yet? I'm trying to decide between that an a comparable Cannon model right now. My biggest questions at this point are: Is the optical image stabilization MUCH better, or just a little better?
    Also, your findings here (though about earlier models) make me worry about the quality of Sanyo's optics?
    Any last minute advice? Need to buy NOW ;-)

    If you need tightly focused sound, definitely the Rode shotgun mike. But be warned you'll need to lower the bass and increase the treble in post-processing. The mic is a bit aggressive in the low-end and weak in the high-end. Avoid using in windy conditions.
    For outdoor sound recordings, and in situation where you'll want more ambient sounds around you, try the Rode Stereo Videomic.
    Don't forget the shoe adapter from DM-Accessories.

    Cine mode is a weird setting that does weird things to the image. I haven't figured out how to properly exploit it yet.
    All daytime shots were filmed in "P" mode. The settings for most of the nighttime shots are identified in the video. Those that aren't identified were recorded in the "P" mode.

    I'm still searching for one. In fact, I wished Canon had produced a 720p version of their HF200 packaged in a FS200 body. I have an FS100, and I'm still amazed at how practical it is despite being only DVD resolution.

  • @TheCanadianPublic

    I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition. It has most of the capabilities of Sony Vegas Pro, but at a fifth of the cost. Even with its limitations (48K/16 bit sound, max. 4 audio and video tracks, basic deinterlacing options), it's surprising how much you can get out of the package.
    Make sure you get the Platinum edition (grey box). The basic edition (orange box) won't do HD.

    the hole mic for the canon is a normal universal mic hole or it is a special canon mic hole and why you don't upload on your official site 10 seconds of an original canon video file so we can test it by dowload it and study it and tetstifie if our video software or our pc or mac get to read it and edit it properly it would be wellcome because il all the internet it is impossible to find an original video file created with hf 200 just to taste it so do it for us and let us know when it is ready

  • @TheCanadianPublic
    @TheCanadianPublic  15 лет назад

    Unless you see actual high definition footage from the Sanyo FH1 to help you make a clear decision, I'd say stick with the Canon.
    Sanyo's specifications worry me a bit. Both cameras have the same resolution, record at 60 frames per second and at 24 Mbps, and occupy the same amount of storage space on the memory card.
    But the Canon is 1080i while the Sanyo is 1080p. Shouldn't the files on the Sanyo be TWICE as large as the files on the Canon?
    Or am I missing something here?

    Maybe not. Locate the manuals for the computer (or at the very least the motherboard), and check which processors it supports. It's entirely possible the board already supports a specific line of quad-core processors.
    And with any luck, it might not be too expensive.

    If you're using an HDMI cable, your TV might deinterlace everything for you.
    That's one of the bigger issues today. There are so many formats, deinterlacers and video filters in so many devices out there, it's nearly impossible to know in advance how a particular video format will look on a particular device unless you plug it in and see what happens.

    Only one. There can be a bit of hiss on the audio track, especially when you're recording in a quiet environment. It's not a problem for me since I often have to tone down the high frequencies anyway, so the problem goes away on its own. But it is a detail I overlooked when I originally reviewed the camcorder.

    I'm still laughing from when you asked what the white stuff was and when you placed the cam as a door stop!
    Thanks so much for the in depth review! As I was considering the Sanyo VPC-TH1EX but after watching your review, I think I will stick with my original choice which was the JVC Verio GZ-MS120. Because that is all I can afford right now.

    It's a Lowepro camera pouch. Unfortunately, I don't have the exact model number. It does the job, but the flap is pretty much useless. I would have preferred if it wasn't there at all.

    I owned this Canon HF200 for several years and it helped me create 100's of decent looking videos.
    I now own the Canon G30 after I broke the screen on the HF200.
    At the time, the HF200 created high quality video which was all I wanted from it.
    For its size, it was a great little camcorder.
