Hearing ROG talk like this made sad af. I'm an SA supporter and POM is everything you need in an international player. Give that man a contract
The issue is for Munster to sort out. His future with Ireland is coming to a close, the Captaincy is just reward for an incredcible career, but it is a temporary appointment in a season where a RWC took place and the captain at the time retired straight afterwards with 3/4 of the season to go..
Once summer is out of the way we'll see a new Irish Team being formatted, so his only role will be with Munster if he chooses to stay with them. What''s not clear is what length of contract and salary his agent is pushing for on is behalf, and whether Munster think it makes sense to match the players (a backrow who will be 35 at start of next season) demand.

@patrickkeane2067 he is already, it covers the 6N and finishes in summer, when his Captaincy will end.
He may well be reappointed Munster captain, but that'll be for Munster to sort out financing...
It's terrible POM is a legend, shame on them for letting this play out in front of the 🌎.

The IRFU are creating a really dangerous precedent if they choose not to give O'Mahony a central contract as Ireland captain. One that could have huge ramifications in the future.
By not offering him a contract as Ireland captain, it says that his contribution to Irish rugby and Munster rugby is no longer of value to them and that his place for Ireland and Munster is replaceable so the money he should be expecting and the money they are willing to offer should reflect that.
That says to Irish players moving forward that their contributions as they get older are potentially going to be overlooked and they will be lowballed. This will lead to more and more players going abroad and getting what they are worth.
Just pay the man for the next two seasons and you save yourself significant headaches for the next decade plus.

Peter has negotiated with the IRFU for a long time now. Surely they'd have to let us know if the Irish captain isn't getting a central contract!
I'm sure Munster would be happy to sign Pete, as long as he plays in red, not green. There's a bit of having your cake and eating it from the IRFU in the year when they've given 9 central contracts to Leinster, which is in itself batshit insane! This is a terrible look for the IRFU and people in Munster are not happy!
