That zooming in on the back logo coinciding with the beat was charming. Elicited a chuckle out of me. :) Seemed like everyone was versed with sparring, but I was especially impressed by the guy in the red tshirt with the gray shorts. He was accurate and precise as heck.
The redshirt guy represents the styles of Paete, on the shores of Laguna de Bay. One of the few places left in the Philippines where regional style and flavor in Arnis still remains alive and is celebrated with matches during the local fiestas. There is more skill present from the other folks than what showed up in this final edit from this edit. That was the fault of me not having the time to go through all of the matches (sometimes there were 4+ matches happening at once and not all were filmed) But Guro Anthony definitely represents the hometown arts of Paete with honor and skill.
@@egjundis It's so lovely to hear about local styles of FMA. I have had one encounter here in Cabanatuan. We did some light double stick sparring. He was leading with the left stick pointed to the floor, with the other hand twirling the other stick slightly behind him and overhead ala Thor, in slow circles. It was so different from what I'm used to seeing. I asked him about the style, but all he said was that it was called eskrima (I forgot the locality here in Central Luzon).
@@bladesociety I had an experience similar to that in Cavite - in Tagatay near Alphonsoin 1997. But in there case it was arnis. It was an old man who said, he hadn't picked up a stick in 50 years. His entire family children and grandchildren were shocked that some Am-Boy was at their house asking to meet their Lolo. (another time I can share why I even knew about him). When I demoed for him the arts I new at that time - he yelled in Tagalog "That won't work" and then like Yoda in Star Wars Episode 2, the old man stood up and then the old fighter was back. It was a beautiful day to see old knowledge from someone who fought for real with those skills.
That looks like a fun time. Makes me miss my Florida training family. Where I'm living right now I don't have the people willing to train outside of class. You really can't improve without pressure testing. I've also found outside training brings new students. Great video
