Alan, great video, great hack and great IDEA. I used the mount from the gopro headband. I sanded it down to the perfect shape, used 2 packs of Sugru and mounted it to my FF helmet. I have a Met Parachute so I have more of a mounting space on the chin bar than you do on the FOX. Thank you man!!!

Glad to help! I’ve been doing it like this for years across multiple helmets and through lots of crashes. I have yet to have even the slightest issue. 🤘🏾😃
I love sugru! It's actually really easy to make it look "good" --- just use lot of excess, the more the better. once it hardens, you can carve it with an xacto knife, sand it down, and file it to shape. - it will lose some of its color, so you will need to clear coat it
I have used SUGRU to repair damage to my bike saddle. Never thought about using it to mount my GoPro to my full face helmet. Thanks - I am going to order more SUGRU for my new helmet mount.
Great video Alan, I could never wear a gimbal it was way too uncomfortable and always got in the way. I been mounting my Sony underneath my visor and it works perfectly. Yo Tommy! Thanks man! Yeah. You got a winning setup. No need to change it. I can sometimes look down and check for the red light, but I usually need to shift the helmet with my hand s little. Not safe in mid air. 😆
@@mtb_alan great! I've already ordered it online. I just need to figure out how can I add the mount on my chinbar. As of now, I'm using s strap and a side mounting.

I forgot to video the process but will do a vid for the 1st trial and will refer to your video if that is ok? Also do u mind if I put my video link here? Cheers David
Right on David! The method works great. It has come through multiple direct hits unscathed. RUclips tends to filter out comments with links in them and as a policy I let RUclips do its thing. Hope you understand. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for your vid. 👍🏽
Thanks for this video! I was having a hard time figuring out how to mount my GoPro to my new IXS Trigger helmet. I tried foam tape with zip ties but they we’re literally crushing the soft inner foam on the chin bar. Just finished this method with the Sugru, just needs to cure and I’ll be good to go!
Oh by the way I just used a standard j hook mount. They are 2 pieces so I unscrewed them, got rid of the clipping mechanism, then trimmed the hook part as needed.
Best chin mount video out there! I was wondering how the Sugru held up since you posted? Just bought the goods to try it on my Bell Super 3R. Thx for posting!
@@BobbyGorman did you manage to try it on your Bell helmet ? I'm about to do the same and saw your comment. @mtb alan Any review about a long term use of it ?
Mounting a GoPro on your full-face mountain biking helmet is not too hard to do, but I'm not a big fan of using zip ties on my helmet. These are two methods for attaching a mount to your chin bar. The first ain't pretty but it's prettier than the Predator zip tie mouth approach. The second is an experiment using Sugru and definitely looks better...and it seems pretty dang solid.
That looks like its going nowhere. I'm next up to get this done, have same helmet too so i'm stoked to get that view better than the chest mount. You're the man!
Hey man, I've been subbed for a while and really appreciate the quality in your content. I've also been rocking the chin mount with the hero7 for a while, and I prefer it before a chesty. I do need to get a lighter helmet though, so maybe if your Sugru hack works I will also get a Fox Pro Frame. You happy with that? And how much have you been able to record with the Sugru hack since you recorded the video?
Hey! Thanks for the support! I rode all yesterday with it, and it worked well. Haven’t hit it on anything yet. The only problem is I get asked a lot more how I mounted the GoPro so cleanly. 😆
Well cool that problem is solved. What do you guys do when the camera isn’t mounted? I just tried putting the thumb screw in the mount but it came loose and I lost it, I guess I need to take it out and leave it in the camera bag, maybe I could sugro the nut in place
Ah yeah...the camera adapter I used had that nut attached. But yeah...you could Sugru...or just Gorilla Glue that nut in place. I guess I didn't think much about that since when I'm not filming (rarely) I'm in my half-shell.
Definitely better than zip ties. That's what I got and it's pretty dang flimsy. Do ya know if adding sugru to the zip tie mount would help? Or just get a new mount :(
I can't really say without seeing the mount, but I'd probably remove the zipties and just use Sugru with the mount. Basically pretend your mount is the camera mount I cut in this vid. Hope that helps!
Great video Alan, I just ordered both things and ill be trying them on my brand new smith mainline. Hopefully it turns out as good for me as it did for you ! Cheers!!!!!

Great, I was in the predicament of which best method to use. The chest mount, I have problems seeing if my gopro is on or not. How is Sugru handle the HEAT? Any sign of melting if expose in the sun too long? Thanks for the tip, I will check it out.
Yeah...I prefer the chin-mounted footy. I think you can get pretty smooth footy with the gimbal, but I never like how it follows turns. I prefer an angle that leads turns...like my head. 🤔
I would have put it off centre to the left to centre the lens. I haven't tried it yet so far I've used zipties, but now I got hero7 so I used some innertube underneath on the left to keep camera straight. I will test my new setup soon. But sugru looks interesting. I am curious how it perfms in heat, sub zero temps.
How has the sugru held up for you? notice any failures or issues with the glue staying attached? I noticed the sugru says it only hold 4.5lbs (which would handle the gopro) but I'm not sure if jumping and hard landings would increase the pressure to the camera, thus popping off... This seems to be the cleanest look, but i would be willing to sacrifice cosmetics for security.
Across all types of terrain and in all types of weather, I've had zero issues. Fully smashed it into the ground, and it's held up like a champ. If you wanna an idea of what the sugru has seen, have a look at pretty much every video since this one. 😀👍🏽
@@mtb_alan - thanks for the quick reply. I'll need to go through more of the recent videos. Glad to hear it's holding up. I ordered an aluminum gopro tripod mount instead of the plastic. Hey MTB ALAN, Hi from Whistler!! 🤙 Thanks for the content. Good stuff. Just wondering if you ever have the GoPro hit you in the chest or if you have to consciously keep the chin up a bit? I can see it not being so much of a problem when you're riding and your head is up looking down the trail, but hard impacts or slower speeds, looking around etc? Does the 9 weigh your chin down at all? Thanks Todd- Riding Thru Life 🤟
Good questions. I’ve never actually hit it on my chest. I also angle the hinge out a little bit. I have tapped the handle bar stem though. As far as weighing my chin down, not really. If anything, it settles the helmet onto my head. It’ll depend on the helmet though. Either way, it has way less effect than if the camera is anywhere higher up on the helmet. And since you’re in Whistler, just catch VANCAN next time you see him up there. 😆
had a similar setup I used a bit with my Leatt DBX 4.0 where i could just zip-tie a standard gopro clip to the snap on/off mesh mudguard that goes above where you have yours here. This seems like it would be fine but not removable which kinda sucks - but can you film in a lit room next time so we could maybe see what it looks like?
Love this!! Going to try this just curious...What all did you do to prep the helmet before you pressed the Sugru and mount on? Just alcohol wipe or any sanding or even scaring for the sugru to adhere to? Keep up the awesome work man!!
Is this good and durabale i wanna get a full face helmet for xmas and i wanna put my gopro on the chin but i cant seem to find any good tutorials. Great video also keep it up!
I've used this method for years. I wouldn't suggest it if it weren't good and durable. Do take note of the material where you'd be using Sugru. If it's a squishy material at all, Sugru might not stick well to it. You can also check out the Telesin mount. ruclips.net/video/5r1lZZ7JObM/видео.htmlsi=_KLqG8MbTnyw7D8m&t=419
What if u did the same thing but put it in the top/inner part of the the chin guard, that way the camera would hang on the bottom but more in front meaning u could sit the helmet down without the camera being in the way, still giving u the same pov
It's a good suggestion. With the current position, the camera is never really in the way, so it's not something that needs to be solved. Putting it inside the front vent hole as you described can work, and I've seen it done, but it can make getting to the battery compartment a pain. It also limits the angle of the camera which can be problematic because the camera angle needs to be a bit different than the helmet's angle. It also makes it a pain to review footage while the camera is mounted. Can you tell I've thought about this stuff. 😆
It has held up like a champ. To remove it, there’s a process. I kinna looked it up on the Sugru site. But it’s pretty small compared to the setup using zip ties. The main con of this method is that you can’t transfer the mount between helmets, e.g. when one smacks there head.
@@mtb_alan ok sweet. Yea I just got the bell super dh and a new gopro and want to mount on the chin compared to my gimpal on the chest like you talked about. Just annoyed. But want something that looks good at the same as holding it stable. But if I want to remove it I need to without messing up the helmet
so i did this set up but i don't get as much of the bars in the shot as you do, i do have an older go pro hero 3. do you think that this is the reason? the thing is, is its better than wearing it on top of my helmet. its gets me a little closer to the "cockpit shot" so to say. but the frame just doesn't get the handlebars to give you that perspective that you are getting in your videos. any advise would help thanks.
Hey there. It might be the Hero 3. I use Superview on my 7Black which is really wide a bit tighter and less warp-y than Superview in previous generations of the Hero. Also, it took me a few adjustments to get the right tilt...the angle that gives me the bars when I'm doing something interesting and still enough of the trail ahead. I hope that helps.
@@askarchris No problem. Glad you liked Greer. They put in such good work there. No idea when I'll be at Greer next. I tend to plan where I'm going at the last minute.

Awesome. I hate using a gimbal also but i like the video quality a little better with it then i do on the 7 and chin. Ill probably end up switching to the chin and hero 7 here someday but not yet. Spent to much money on the evo ss.
Superview 30FPS 4K. I turn sharpness all the way down. I also set color to flat and do color grading when I’m editing, but I understand that the GoPro default color is good. Hope that helps!
I’m having issues with my Hero 7 mtb uploads coming out super grainy. How do you get around that? What export settings do you use when uploading to YT? Thanks
Recording in 4k superview at 24fps. Import and edit in final cut pro, down res to 1080, then upload direct to YT from FCP. Tried again without the down res, uploading to YT in 4k, and it looks even worse. It could be the 24fps? I think you do 30? It's really the outer regions of the video that looks terrible - the trees going by and landscape - while the handlebar area (using a chest mount) looks decent. @@mtb_alan
Ah. I don’t know FCP, but consider outputting 4K. Does FCP have RUclips defaults? If so, try one of those. I use Adobe Premier and it has default encoding settings meant to produce good RUclips results. Your frame rate (24) shouldn’t matter.
MTB ALAN yeah I just use FCP’s default when exporting to YT. When exporting to file, playback is solid. It’s just the YT playback that’s a little rough. I’ll keep digging. Thanks for the help and recommendation on the 7 for smooth footage. It’s butter.

You can also check out the Telesin mount. ruclips.net/video/5r1lZZ7JObM/видео.htmlsi=_KLqG8MbTnyw7D8m&t=419
What park was the footage from!? Good video as well! Your demo on the nomad, has pushed me to really really want one. Checking it out this weekend!
Bikepark was Snow Summit in Big Bear, CA.
Glad the Nomad demo helped! Hope you have fun on it this weekend!
hey allan, hows the mount holding up? checking to see if after months of usage it still holding up and no issue. Thanks!
Hi Maat. More than a year in, and no issues. 👍🏽
@@mtb_alan thanks allan!
How is the Sugru holding up after a summer of use? Thinking of trying this on my Proframe.
Well, dunno if you saw the crash on 10-ply but yeah...it’s proven to be bomb proof.
Cool idea! I've been playing around with a similar concept.
Thanks!
Is the Sugru Mount still in service a year later?🙏🔑✌️
💯
Bro...More light. Is it me or is this video to dark? Love the chin mount option...
Thanks. It’s dark. My fill light burned out as I was setting up. Think of it as Caravaggio lighting. 🤓
Lol, I was going to comment need lights. 👍
Ha! Yeah. Gotta fix my busted light.
Very nice! Definitely gonna use this. Subbed.
Right on! Thanks for the support! 👊🏽
So how is it holding up after all these months? Now also what if you want to remove it?
It has held up like a champ. To remove it, there’s a process. I kinna looked it up on the Sugru site. But it’s pretty small compared to the setup using zip ties. The main con of this method is that you can’t transfer the mount between helmets, e.g. when one smacks there head.
@@mtb_alan ok sweet. Yea I just got the bell super dh and a new gopro and want to mount on the chin compared to my gimpal on the chest like you talked about. Just annoyed. But want something that looks good at the same as holding it stable. But if I want to remove it I need to without messing up the helmet
Check what the sugru site says about it. I also know there are a couple removable systems out there for chin mounting but don’t know more than that.
@@mtb_alan checking it all out today. Thanks boss
so i did this set up but i don't get as much of the bars in the shot as you do, i do have an older go pro hero 3. do you think that this is the reason? the thing is, is its better than wearing it on top of my helmet. its gets me a little closer to the "cockpit shot" so to say. but the frame just doesn't get the handlebars to give you that perspective that you are getting in your videos. any advise would help thanks.
MTB ALAN you should change your name to niceguy Alan . Thanks for the help
Alan. Did you delete the video for the chin mount for the TLD stage?
Naw. It’s here: ruclips.net/user/shortsoVTUtSsbt5s?feature=share
@@mtb_alan thanks. I just finished it on my tld.
@@paranoid006 Noice!
Alan you need some more lighting in your garage! Haha, does this method need the 3m tape or just the sugru?
Just the Sugru. 👍🏽
MTB ALAN thank you! When you going out to Greer? Was just there last week for the first time had a blast
@@askarchris No problem. Glad you liked Greer. They put in such good work there. No idea when I'll be at Greer next. I tend to plan where I'm going at the last minute.
Saludos alan aca viendo tus buenos videos amigo ..
Me alegra que estés disfrutando de mis videos.
how did this hold up, still good to this day ?
All good to this day.
How has the Sugru Chin-Mount held up over the Summer?
Like a champ.
So it’s been a full season now! Still good?
Still good. Has taken hits and is good as new.
MTB ALAN awesome I will be doing this to my new TLD Stage then! Merry Christmas and thanks for the response.
Right on! Remember to give it 24 hours to set. Sorry if that’s obvious to. I’ve had somebody stick it on and try to use it within a couple hours or something. 😆
Interesting, thanks for posting, and great riding.
No worries. Hope it helps. Thanks!
What goggles do you wear with the Proframe???
I use the Smith Squad MTB ones. Hope that helps!
Awesome. I hate using a gimbal also but i like the video quality a little better with it then i do on the 7 and chin. Ill probably end up switching to the chin and hero 7 here someday but not yet. Spent to much money on the evo ss.
Yo! Ha! The ol’ sunk cost life. 😆
@@mtb_alan yup. I'll get there though.
👍🏽
how is the durability on the sugru?
It’s solid. I’ve been through a buncha helmets and Sugru has outlasted every helmet.
i see you have a few full face helmets. you willing to sell one?
Nope. They’ve all seen direct hits and no longer safe to use.
MTB ALAN ahh gotcha
hey thanks for sharing - it looks sick!
My pleasure!
For everyone that tried this, how did it end up working out?
Have a look at my MISTAKES WERE MADE video. The mount was completely unaffected.
Hey what settings do you use on you go pro i have the same one and can’t really get a good picture
Superview 30FPS 4K. I turn sharpness all the way down. I also set color to flat and do color grading when I’m editing, but I understand that the GoPro default color is good.
Hope that helps!
This is Awesome!
Glad you dug it!
This worked so well!! Thank you
No problem! Glad you're stoked on it.
Thanks man this helped a lot
Glad to hear it!
Chin mount over chesty for me. 👍
💥
I’m having issues with my Hero 7 mtb uploads coming out super grainy. How do you get around that? What export settings do you use when uploading to YT? Thanks
Hmmm...what’s your workflow?
Cool. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. Maybe also check out MattWhoIsMatt’s yt channel. He has a lot of good info.
Do you know about the fundraiser attached to your video?
Yes. I attached it.
@@mtb_alan thanks for being honest. Unsubscribing. I don’t need political shit on my feed. Military and police family BTW. Quite offensive.
@@72fasterthanyou seems like you didn’t read about the Center for Policing Equity. Law enforcement often invites them to work WITH them. You and your family might actually appreciate and benefit from their work. As a note, I also have military and law enforcement friends and family.
Yes I visited their site and read their statement. Complete bullshit! Police that are working with them are doing so for public image. Their polices and practices are nothing new and have been in place for years already. Myself and my family extend the same fairness and treatment to EVERYONE we encounter, even as they are breaking the law. If you break the law... the law is applied to you...Color doesn’t matter. You’ve made it part of your channel now. I’m out.
I sincerely wish you the best. I'm glad to hear that about you and your family. Thank you for your continued service. 👊🏾
Good information, Too bad the video is so dark.
Thanks!
whats the opening music
It's something I got from RUclips but I don't recall the details. Been using it as my intro music for a while.
But now you have to wear a full face all the time!! Do you have your new bike yet?
Ha! Been wearing a full-face for every ride I’ve done since last summer. I mean, I guess the camera bra is better?
New bike? Probably won’t happen until closer to the end of the year. 🤞🏽
@@mtb_alan I mean it accentuates my best features for sure.
😆
Seems to me that 2 part epoxy would have been quicker and look more OEM. ????
Give it a try. Let me know how it works out. 👍🏽

Hey! You don’t want my stanky ol’ helmet. 😆 Especially since it has seen an impact and isn’t really safe anymore. Best of luck finding the helmet you’re looking for! 🤘🏽
Hey Alan, Just Uploaded my Chin mount vid! Have a look at the Video previously uploaded titled "Knapsack Fun". It's probably my best so far but still learning so any tips would be very appreciated.
Yo! I was looking for your chin mount vid and was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Thanks for updating me. I'll check it out.
No-one else takes the item from behind the first one one the rack?
Banjo Vogt 🤷🏾♂️
Dude, relax! It looks fine 👍🏻 nobody’s gonna notice those tiny gaps! And if so, you’re riding too slow 😜
Ha! IKR. Can’t help it. 😆
Bad choice of background color. Hard to see black items.
