Hey Randy. I have the ic-v86 7watt. I can reach my repeater 28-30 miles away. My friend NW of me , reaches the same repeater about 40 miles away. So about 70 miles distance. Pretty cool..

I just passed the test for my Technician license last week and am waiting on my license. So in the meantime I want to build a 2 meter antenna for my Yaesu FT-4VR I got from the local Ham club for passing my test.

It's a great video series BUT the Icom IC-V80 (which I own) is NOT a good radio anymore, because it can't be programmed with CHIRP, which, these days, is an expectation for a VHF or UHF rig.
If you think it can be programmed via CHIRP, please make a video on how to do it, because even the CHIRP website says it isn't so. Thank you.

My wife and I have been amateur operators for the past 10 years now using our local 2m FM repeater to communicate or rachu for the past 4 months we have experienced harmful interference as well as blocking while we're using the repeater from someone in the area my question is what can be done to resolve this issue

Why do people behave like that?! This is one of the reasons I keep dragging my feet on getting my technician license...Well this and the gang like mentality I hear on web based SDRs around the country. I just don't really need to have a click of old dorks running me off because I'm not one of them. Certainly there are some good people out there?

6 feet / 3.5 miles, repeaters will get you further. can you bounce through several repeaters and talk hundreds of miles?

Technologically it is possible, but realistically (in the Amateur Radio bands) the answer is no. Certain frequencies are allocated for repeaters to receive and others for them to transmit, so no repeater will be transmitting on a frequency that other repeaters are receiving on. Also, most repeaters require the CTCSS tone, so the repeater would have to be set up to provide that.
That's the quick and easy answer. Throw computers and the internet into the mix and it gets too complicated for me.

It sounds like 2 meter is getting "kiboshed." Maybe its time to consider CB radio, fishing, or feeding pigeons.
