Despite losing 1-0 to Manchester United, Hull avoided relegation on the last day of the 2008/09 Premier League season as Newcastle had failed to beat Aston Villa. Hull manager Phil Brown celebrated their survival by singing on the pitch at full time.

His goatee reminds me of when Michael Scott grew a goatee to impress Ryan😂
Fire.....d guy
Haha
Bruuuuu 😂
What a character Phil Brown was back when he was managing in the Premier League for like only 2 years 😂
I remember his arrogance when they beat us at The Emirates...he went on a press tour all week promoting the victory
It was different then teams very rarely won at the Emirates back then. Let alone newly-promoted teams! Phenomenal win.
@@shussey1446 I think at that time Hull were the only the second team ever to beat Arsenal at the Emirates in the league after West Ham did it in 2006/07
Didn’t Hull only win 1 game after Christmas? Probably one of the luckiest teams to stay up
One of the lowest ever points totals to survive too.
Weren't they first after 9 games?
yeah they beat Fulham 1-0 thanks to a last minute Manucho goal and drew against Bolton the week before which took them out of the bottom 3 due to Newcastle losing to Fulham.
beat you that season at the emirates mate
Luke D They got relegated on the same amount of points a few years later
Remember when Roy hodgson gave his condolences to all the relegated teams when he finished 17th with palace?
This man was the opposite
it was with Fulham but yeah
AND IM HERE FOR IT, THIS IS THE BEST TRIP
Taking the credit for the teams around them imploding 😂
Can we get his famous half time team talk

Hull were up against a Man United reserve side that day because with the UCL final against Barcelona on the horizon all of United's main players Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Van Der Sar, Carrick, Giggs, Ferdinand, Vidic etc were all rested. Fergie made 10 changes to the side that clinched a title threepeat the previous week only Darren Fletcher remained in the side that drew with Arsenal in their bench was full of youngsters. Hull were fortunate to survive they owed Craig Fagan a beer because his goal against Bolton the previous week combined with Newcastle's loss to Fulham is what saved them.
Hull still lost that match against United’s reserves too
Loves his name in the papers old sunbed
Well am happy he is our manager at barrow now and he has kept us up ...so let's see him and barrow win league two next season ...so be it Phil so be it....
You reckom he will sing
I wouldn't be singing or be proud- Hull only stayed up because Newcastle imploded. They lost on that final day (then again so did all of their relegation rivals.)
This was against a Man United reserve side because Sir Alex Ferguson with the UCL Final against Barcelona in midweek in mind rested all their important players Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Van Der Sar, Carrick Giggs, Ferdinand who was just coming back from a calf injury and Vidic all weren't even on the bench that day. In fact of the starting XI who drew against Arsenal the previous week and secured a second Premier League title threepeat only Darren Fletcher who was suspended for the Rome final kept his starting place that day. Hull barely threatened United that day and they were very luck that Craig Fagan scored an important equalizer against Bolton the week before because that was what saved them.
This guy looks like the hotel guy from home alone 2
Phil Orange was such a tool. Hull stayed up in spite of him not because of him.
Phil Orange HAHAHAHA
City BEFORE the Allams. The KC absolutely packed with fans. It's a Shane what they've done to the club in recent years!
It's coming back Connor. The faith is here thanks to Acun.
Love this channel

You'd think that they'd just won the league unbeaten and winning every game.
If he was a bar of chocolate he'd eat himself
Joe Exotic?
Hull after 5-1 lost to Man City . They won eight more points in 2009 that is it.
Nothing to sing about you got lucky very lucky
I was there :)
What a berk
No one should celebrate scraping out of relegation. Small mans mentality
It was his half time team talk at man city on the pitch that led to him being sacked goood riddance tto him Hull were very lucky to have stayed up that season his reputation as a manager never recovered since that half time team talk on the pitch nó other Premier league club won't touch him
And sky sports laughed at villa for last season look at this
Ego maniac, I am a Hull supporter and i can tell u first hand he is a joke of a manager, its a real shame we didnt have someone much more competent in managing his playing staff mentally, coz he was a awful man manager
Their form at the start of that season was INSANE! I had never seen a newly promoted team do that well (they were on track to finish in the top 4).
I think it made the manager arrogant though and their 2nd half form was awful (the worse in the league). Hull were so lucky to narrowly survive & I think some humility was in order... not this ridiculous show!
They beat Tottenham on their own patch, Arsenal on their own patch, gave Liverpool one hell of a game as well.
@@classicsportclassictiyl8547 for a team who had never been in the top flight too
@@chelseaking1735 Yes you could say Tottenham were awful when Hull came to WHL but Arsenal and Liverpool were genuinely brilliant
Chocolado
Ahhh those halcyon days beating Liverpool and going top 10.....that was the moment it all turned a bit sour ...at least we had the opportunity to win league 1 🙄🙄...looking forward to seeing what the new owner will bring....hope it's not frying pan into the fire.
He should do a duet with Cliff Richard.. one thing they have in common, no one asked them to...how he's not still a Top Flight Manager I'll never know
Leauge 1....
completely disrespectful from brown, atleast the year before Roy Hodgson sent his regards to the relegated managers
reasons like this he was forgotten within 5 years
don't think this was disrespect. He was probably relieved that they had just stayed up by the skin of their teeth so was probably caught up in the emotions, just wanted to enjoy himself with the fans.
That’s gonna be Norwich in a month
Not quite... you really thought Norwich would stay up!?
Hull are one of luckiest teams to even stay up Only because all the other teams played like utter shit for the season
did they win the champions league or something? Must have missed that
small clubs celebrate small achievements. dont be a hater.
Colin Maltman yeah how dare they celebrate staying up
Jesus, jokes really are lost on you aren't they haha
@@esseffsee
I think you’re missing the context; they lost this match and had the worse form of any Premier League team in the 2nd half of the season. The manager could’ve passed on his condolences to the other teams relegated (what Roy did when Palace finished 17th) and showed some humility to the fact they were very lucky to stay up.
Yup
Prat
He’s never listened to the beach boys properly
Seriously you just lost to sir Alex Ferguson and your singing I get the bunch of geordies were relegated but you can't sing when you have walking dead of hull city players like mcshane and Bullard
This wasn't the normal Man United side they lost too either
Bullard didn’t play for Hull this season, he was signed the following season
One of the worst managers ever to manage in the PL.. absolute Pillock
That is what we like to call in this industry. SHITHOUSERY
What a joker!!
Hull will be in league 1 next year hahahah
Yeah it’s sad what the owners are doing
@@kierantv9857 true
How they've fallen. I remember with Portsmouth even playing European football that same year. Dang football's mad.
