  • The plot of The Taming of the Shrew explained by Director Justin Audibert.
For this production of The Taming of the Shrew we have swapped the genders of the characters, so that all of the characters usually played by men (such as Petruchio) are played by women, and all the characters usually played by women (such as Kate) are played by men. This synopsis reflects this change.

A little mention of the creative changes to the original version at the outset would seem a reasonable courtesy....

I keep telling "the wife," it would be cheaper to move to Stratford than to buy tickets and travel for all the shows I want to see performed there.
This is an incredible reworking, brilliant and I bet your stage manager is having a BLAST on this one.

This story just proves how society changed. A patriarchy to a matriarchy. Just choose one MFs.

The Taming of the Dude. 🙄

That’s genuinely funny. And I’m with you on the eye roll. Why call a play Shakespeare when it’s just not? Just call it the Taming of the Dude and show it in the Swan.

Elizabeth Wilson Rewriting Shakespeare to fit their political narrative is pathetic. Let his words stand or don’t call it a Shakespearean play.

T J What’s really sad is they’re aggressively hitting the schools with this garbage. The kids just think it’s Shakespeare.

Dudes playing "traditionally female roles" is so untraditional to theatre XD

You don't have to be incredibly silly to work here - but it helps. How come ( nearly) everyone else's name is changed to accommodate the change of gender - Gremia, Bianco, Petruchia , etc but not Katherine? Good morrow, Kate, for that's your name, I hear'- ' Good morrow, Kevin, for that's your name, I hear.

Elizabeth Wilson if the RSC doesn’t revere his words and plays, who will? I’m so utterly disgusted/disappointed

Shakespeare didn't revere words, he pushed very vulgar and salty prose.

God help us ! Can't be worse ?? Than the Shrew they did a few years ago ( with Stephen Boxer) where they decided to do this comedy as a study of domestic violence with Petruchio as a psychopath and a recurring theme of men putting their heads up women's skirts and Katherine offering Gremio her body in return for some food because she as being starved by her new husband. Who pays these people? And how do they get these jobs?
