Winning replays NEVER gets old. …. as a kid, replays equals more games, more fun, … and free fun. It’s also cool when you have a good game and make 5 or more replays. …. you know you did good. … the jackpot on my 1957 Ace High awards 8 replays. What a great sound (and rhythm) that makes. Free balls are ok, but replays are everything.
Yeah it's really cool, right? I like getting in the ones that are just SCREWED, all screwed up then you work on them, do this, do that, and finally they come back to life, it's very satisfying. I'm trying to get that across on the videos so other people can enjoy that too.
Can't thank you enough for these videos Ron, I learn something new every single time, and more than a few times I've used your advice and knowledge in my own retro electronic repairs. On top of it all, I love seeing old machines get some love and live new life.
Exciting ! you have to take your hat off to theses guy's and gal's who designed the new MPU, thats a whole lot of work and then sell them for 200 quid..and now I put my hat back on then, take it off again to you for working through this stuff...I look forward to part 3...cheers.
Thanks so much for the video Ron. Fantastic, valuable info which is extremely useful. You are a champion!. Lost track how many 20c coins I put in Kiss, 8 ball deluxe & definitely Playboy pins as a kid haha. Hope you & all your loved ones have been really great
I want to get one of those Playboy's in and fix it but I might have problems with putting it in my showroom, we sell video games so get a lot of kids in, their moms might not like that :) I'll put it in the side room or something and film everything in secret :)
Hi, really enjoy your channel and educated chat....and what’s so awesome - you actually breath life into some old classics left for dead!....all the best...cheers
I actually have a Speakeasy. The 2 player version was the one that was released in the US, the 4 player version was mainly for overseas (Italy I think). It's an interesting game with a bank of 5 swing-UP targets in the middle. It's also a game featuring Add-A-Ball. Your ball count going from 9 to -2 (yeah, negative 2) as you win or lose balls base on play. I guess they thought by putting in a feature they HAD to have for legal reasons back in the 60-70s, it might make the game more interesting. ALSO, it's the only game with a PLASTIC playfield. I stream it from time-to-time on my twitch channel. There's a video a from a few weeks ago there. Thanks for working through this game and making the videos for us.
and the kiss logo board reflow with fresh solder and it should help with the stuck on lights. its common for that board to get stuck lights when it has a bad trace or a bad solder joint its usually really easy to fix
Funny, I just installed the same board yesterday in the same machine! Great machine to play on.. for hours! The song/Music is correct, same as my Kiss pinball only it goes very rapid. I still have a reset issue after replacing the MPU ( old one the same ). I keep my eyes on this channel, great!
Hmmm... yours goes faster, are you perhaps in another country that doesn't have 50hz transformers? I wonder if that has anything to do with it, I don't know much about it but have ran into it before in the States where the motors will run on different Hz speeds.
@@LyonsArcade Maybe the 110/220v 50/60Hz has something to do with it. Wathch my video ruclips.net/video/ATJmZiagW-4/видео.html for the startup. Mine Kiss play the tune much slower. Thx for the videos! love it :-)
Great video! I will be doing this some day. I may leave the dip switches to one side and boot in test mode first before setting them. I am surprised you didn't do that.
Little-M mV is "millivolts". The new MPU board has no capacitors that could explode and leak, but as a result it needs a very steady 5V supply to work correctly -- there is no buffer to accommodate surges or dips. Multimeters in DC mode measure average voltage over a short period of time, so even if it shows 5V DC, it could be swinging back and forth a lot, potentially going below 4.85V (which causes the processor to temporarily lock up or act drunk) or above 5.25V (which could cause the processor to cook itself). Checking for AC volts lets you make sure it isn't swinging too much. Adding capacitors would also help with this, but capacitors have a limited lifespan.
The schematic for the alltech shows several polarised capacitors, two 4.7uF ones on the main power rail and a 100uF one on the nvram chip. Looking at the photo of the board the 4.7uF ones appear to be tantualum (or maybe nobium oxide) electrolytics while the 100uF one appears to be an aluminium electrolytic.
@@petermichaelgreen I didn't spot the cans. The 4.7 microfarad ones should help make the microprocessors more resistant to crashing due to power supply problems.
Here’s a funny prank you could try. Call up Pinball resource or one of your other suppliers and tell them that you have a Space invaders machine with one of the four bunkers at the bottom of the game screen missing. When they ask you if you’re looking for a RAM chip or something, pretend to be a dumb customer, and not who you really are, saying that you only need the bunker and can they send it to you. I’d love to hear the stories they’d tell of this really strange guy who called up looking for a bunker for a Space invaders machine!
You forgot to mention that you can order this board from Alltek themselves. I would also recommend getting their lamp driver board as well especially if you're putting LEDs in your game.
That melody that plays at the beginning does not sound like a song, more of a test pattern. The pinball machine only uses two KISS songs. Rock and Roll All Nite and another that I can't remember right now.
@@PaulGibbons hey paul yeah it plays two tunes rock and roll all night at the beginning and shout it out loud as the end game tune if you like KISS check out my channel lots of KISS content over there
I bet the battery has shorted, so the 5101 doesn't get the 5V supply voltage and thus fails the memory test. Had the same problem on a more recent pinball machine. Betcha it blinks more than once once you get the battery out.
what's crazy is, in china, if boards were really in demand, then, china might come up with low powered micro PCBs for pinball games, like a mini retrofit kit.
Roughly, how much money would it cost for the work you did on this machine? It would be helpful to anyone looking to purchase a machine needing repair.
Well it depends on what the game is, low end starts at $150 or so and then it goes up from there, we had one last year that was $1700 or so, it just depends on the condition it's in and how much work we do on it. I don't remember exactly how much this one was, but we put new boards and things in it so it wasn't cheap!
About the Kiss-logo lamps. I had that problem aswell on another Kiss i had. After i checked the transistors (and they worked fine) I changed U2 and U3 on the auxiliary lamp driver board, and that fixed it. BUT, cos there is a big BUT. If the the game is stored in a cold environment, and not used for a while. When you fire it upp it may skip (to light up) a cople of lamps in the KISS-logo. I measured the lamp sockets and the connectors and they were all fine. Can it be that some IC:s works "kind of slow" if they are cold? Do you have any experiences of this phenomenon? Cos when the game is warmed up to room temperature this behaviour stops and it starts work as it should. Any way! Thanks for another awesome video.
That very well may be, or it could be the cold effects the connection between the wiring and the connectors or something.... but yeah I've seen them run differently when they've sat for awhile.
for this exact machine about $3200. If the playfield were still really nice and original, and the sideart was repainted or in better shape, you'd be up at about $4000.
Not sure how long the Amazon cookie stays on the computer. I ordered a CPAP head strap. But I think you have to click the link every time for it to give you credit.
