I think these patterns are well thought out and useful for everyday life. I really like the direction you are going in your sewing. Far more sensible than 'sewing the Vogue.' I also appreciate that you can make a lot of these patterns for anyone in your life. I do a lot of sewing for my adventurous adult children, including climbing pants, high-tech mid-layer hoodies, and lightweight wind/rain jackets. I make a lot of travel and activewear for myself too. I can see all these patterns would be useful depending on fabric choices and design details. ❤❤❤
Recently I've fallen back in love with making but I'm also trying to be sure and use my limited time wisely. For me, getting to throw on handmade clothes every day is so fulfilling. I would love to have time to play around with different trends or new techniques, but I know I'd be disappointed if I never wore the.! Thanks for watching!!
Giiirrrrlll!!! I cannot believe you haven’t made anything Sew Liberated! You probably know I am obsessed with all her patterns 😂… the Arenite pants are great. I have made a couple of pairs of the knit version with French Terry and with Fleece. They make great sweat pants and I love the deep pockets. I think you’re going to love them! Great Make 9, can’t wait to see these come to life. ❤
Great assortment.. looking forward to following you through the makes.. I just discovered Sydney Graham and have to agree she has a great casual/comfy but dressy esthetic, and I luv how she show so many different ways to make her patterns 😊
I just made the Lane Pants by Sydney Graham this week and I am in love with them. I made a wearable toile out of some clearance flannel (grey with small rainbow pineapples and palm fronds) that had been in my stash for at least 4 years. I skipped the cargo pockets and the drawstring but no alterations other than that. They turned out so awesome that they are going to be my Christmas Day hangout pjs. I went to the thrift store yesterday and found a cropped Fabletics sweatshirt to match them. I am looking forward to wearing this chic but cozy outfit more than opening presents. 🎉. The pockets are genius.
I love that you are focusing on practical makes for your Make Nine. I also love that you are focusing on new to you indie designers. There were some that were new to me, too. I am thinking about trying a "no buy" or "low buy" year for sewing this year. Can I do it?! Having said that, the first thing to do is get in the sewing room and organize my patterns and fabrics. If I do a Make Nine, I might match some patterns and fabric I have right now. We'll see. I'm good at making plans, but sometimes my teaching job takes up all my time. Thank you for the video, Whitney!
I've seen people do the fabric and pattern thing for make 9, or even just 9 fabrics!, and it has worked well. I would love to make allll the things, but my time is limited so it's usually a better idea to focus on what I will actually wear. With an occasional halloween costume thrown in :)
Fab plans...love sew liberated I think my Chanterelles are my favourite ever trousers...I'm just about to make them in French terry to add to linen and flannel pairs! I think we should join forces though and get that Vogue wrap jumpsuit sewn this year too !!
A great practical mix of plans, nice! I'm always looking for comfortable but good looking casual pants too. I'm going to make the Pietras for the first time, probably more of the Free Range Slacks, and another Yanta overalls. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New year 🎊
Hi Whitney! Merry Christmas! I'm coming out with my make nine video right after the new year and thank you for choosing independent pattern companies that I don't know about! Something to think about! I love your sweater you have on. I know, I'm sure, you made it and it looks beautiful
Thank you so much for this! The jameela jacket really speaks to me, and I have some teal viscose/wool blend that will be perfect for it. But maybe I also need a mustard yellow one! I can't wait to see which of these you end up making.
I love your Make Nine list. It’s great to try new pattern designers. I look forward to following your journey. I’m currently working on my Make Nine. 😊 On a different note, I know you are an avid reader. Have you read “Verity”? I highly recommend this book.
Thanks! Glad you're here! I had fun rounding up all my sewing and seeing my favorite makes were from indie designers. Makes me excited to find some new ones this year.
Hi Whitney, You've got some swell projects lined up! One of the new-to-me names is LeilaMakes, and I'll be checking out those pants. Overalls are great! I think you'll like Paper Theory; I've made 4 or 5 sets of Agnes PJ's, and just sewed up my 3rd Olya shirt (it would have been on my #mymakesforthemonthNovember). I should say 'go ahead and add to the sleeve length' here haha, I've added on twice, and they are good now. I've got several Sew Liberated patterns, but strangely have only made up one. French Navy is a favorite, too. I've made several of the tops, and have the Calyer pattern that I haven't tried yet. Have a wonderful Christmas!!
I love your list and that you're highlighting smaller designers, I'm going to check out quite a few of them. The only other thing to add is that I've found Sew Liberated's patterns hit and miss for me. The Hinterland which everyone loves was a super weird fit and I never got past a toil of the bodice (and I've since found other folks who've had issues with that bodice) but I love the Bedrock tee with a few alterations. not
Good to know! I have a long torso so I’ve never been tempted by the hinterland but I know so many people love it. It will be interesting to see how her pants work for me for sure
Oh, The lane pants look nice! I have not worn pants in years outside of my home. I wear them in the house when it's a little colder, but I think I want to try to make a pair in these look very nice! What's the name of the pattern designer again?
Hi this is the first time I have come across you , I think. My first observation: you are very pretty but out of a 19 minute video, probably less than 90 seconds of actually seeing the patterns you were taking about. Could I make a suggestion? could you leave the images up for a lot longer and show the other options you talk about too, maybe? Seeing the images\ options as you talk about them would be great.

This sounds so fun, sewing with technical fabrics! My children are all under 5 still so for now it‘s mainly pyjamas, jumpers and dresses ☺️

Yes, all her hacks and additions are very cool. They inspire me to look at other patterns that wayn

This makes me so excited!!!
Ooh I almost want to make all of these too!!! ❤
The good news is that you can wait and see if they’re worth making before committing to anything 🤣

This is almost what i did for my 2024 make nine. All indie patterns that I’ve never sewn before. Good luck with your make nine!!!!🎉
It’s a fun way to branch out a little!
@@whitmakesabsolutely!
Looking forward to watching you make all these while I keep telling myself that one day I'll get into sewing too 😄
Hahaha

Oh good to know! I was looking at those as well. Yes- maybe we can plan an informal sew along!
@whitmakes ooo yes, that would be fun 2025 is the year!!

Comfortable pants for the win!!!
Hi Whitney! Merry Christmas! I'm coming out with my make nine video right after the new year and thank you for choosing independent pattern companies that I don't know about! Something to think about! I love your sweater you have on. I know, I'm sure, you made it and it looks beautiful
Thank you! Yes- the it’s not a sweatshirt pattern by knitting for Olive. Looking forward to everyone’s wrap up videos and plans!
Hi Whit! You've inspired me!! I'm starting a 2025 goals list tomorrow-!!! Looking forward to being more focused. Cheers!
Sometimes it’s nice to put into words what you really want. And if it changes throughout the year, that’s ok too!!
Great selections. I'm inspired to take a look myself at some of these designers. Thank you!
Great! So many designers out there, it can be overwhelming! Nice to have a list to start from.
Thank you so much for this! The jameela jacket really speaks to me, and I have some teal viscose/wool blend that will be perfect for it. But maybe I also need a mustard yellow one! I can't wait to see which of these you end up making.
Oh good! Completely new to me but I find the details interesting.

I’m currently working on my Make Nine. 😊

I have read that! There are so many beautiful patterns out there- sometimes this list keeps me from getting too distracted by new and shiny!
I just subscribed, love the video and your make 9. I’m starting to look into more indie makers so this was nice to watch 👍🏾
Thanks! Glad you're here! I had fun rounding up all my sewing and seeing my favorite makes were from indie designers. Makes me excited to find some new ones this year.

Good to know! Yes someone I never got around to paper theory but have heard such good things. And I’ll be looking at that sleeve length for sure!!!

Sydney Graham! Yes- I’ve seen so many different versions I have to give them a try.

Oh sure
it looks like the 90s are a hit again in the UK .... I personally found them boring
Yes- I’m officially the old woman at the store saying, omg I wore something just like that 🤣
