    It's such a pity (most) modern horror creators never allow their imaginations to run wild the way Barker did. Thirty-five years later and this still stands out. Another great review boys :)

      Absolutely! I think with the success of stuff like Malignant we'll see more creativity flourish in wider horror releases.

    • @JonnyRecaps
      @JonnyRecaps 2 года назад

      I totally agree. Every time somebody calls Malignant ridiculous, I'm like 'yes it is, and that's exactly what you want!" I still think Wan did Malignant in response to Ari Aster (Hereditary & Midsommar both did well, both opened with female leads suffering devastating personal losses/uncomfortable crying scenes, look how Malignant starts), but who cares if it inspires people to climb out of their horror safety zones right?

    Hellraiser is a good classic 80s horror movie. The rest of the franchise is alright. I like the soundtrack. But the first Hellraiser is definitely the best one in the franchise.

    Definitely wanted more Cenobites. Those things look crazy. I've seen this movie once and one of the things I remember most is how much the dude's fingernails at the beginning scare me. 😂

    I’m SO fucking excited now that Clive Barker is in control of his own stuff again. Hellraiser is a fantastic adaptation of The Hellbound Heart and Clive really knows how to paint a picture. A+ gore and very sexy 🖤

    I work in Quality Control for Pepsi, and the batching room gets hellishly hot when doing hot washes of syrup tanks, upwards of 200 degree water charging through 2 tanks at a time and with the room being rather small, it’s pretty unbearable in the summer. There’s a window that separates the lab and the batch room that steams up badly when doing this, so for fun, we write or draw on the steam covered window. I once wrote “Help me I’m in Hell” from this film. Needless to say management made me break out the windex to clean it off. They weren’t impressed and clearly not horror fans 🤷🏼🔥

    I watch all of the Hellraiser films every year on Good Friday, my top favorites are Hell On Earth (the first one I've seen, and the CD cenebite is my favorite cenebite of all, he and Barbie are my scariest ones, also the Joey and Terri sisterly bond that ends in tragic all because Terri thought Joey was abandoning her only for her to go back to JP and then sell her soul to Pinhead, I love sucking endings) and Inferno (even though this one hardly had anything to do with Pinhead and his Gash, but the Joseph Thorne story is what I like about it, this was the first film where we actually fallow a character into Hell after they die in reality, but we don't realize it as it appears to be a dream, only to reveal that he has died and just starts over again just like the life a videogame character, in my opinion, that truly is Hell, especially the part where his wife and daughter shatter to pieces in front of him)

    I obviously didn't mind the subject matter of Hellraiser, but Frank in skinless skelly form INSTANTLY made me tense up the second he fully formed. 😬 like I was honestly freaking out every time he was on screen the first time I watched this like 3 Halloweens ago. BDSM? I'm fine, that's my sanctuary. ⛓🖤⛓ the "come to daddy" scene? Made me want to RUN AWAY. 😬

    • @Mad-Bassist
      @Mad-Bassist 2 года назад +1

      I'm probably in the minority, but I think the fifth film was good because it felt like it came from the graphic novel series which was more freeform and showcased many different writers and artists creating their own corners of hell, which eventually came together towards the end and led to the epic (first) Pinhead series of comic books.

    • @Faustustopheles
      @Faustustopheles 2 года назад +1

      @@Mad-Bassist wow that's really cool. I'll have to check it out. I love the comic books and I still have the Christmas special.

    • @Mad-Bassist
      @Mad-Bassist 2 года назад +1

      @@Faustustopheles Heh, I had that Christmas special too. Classic!
      I liked the original concept from The Hellbound Heart where it was a solid-looking black cube that only the truly obsessed could figure out how to open by disassembling it, because that's the only kind of souls hell wanted. The movie version was a little too easy to open!
      I imagine a modern production of that would be cool since we could use CGI to show the hell priest reassembling the cube with all the twisted black and silver pieces whirling around in the air as Clive originally wrote. Maybe in the upcoming series?

    • @Faustustopheles
      @Faustustopheles 2 года назад +1

      @@Mad-Bassist I think a new version rethinking it would have tremendous potential. But the problem is that it's always going to be more amazing in our minds and when a studio gets a hold of it, the movie would not live up to our desires.
      But boy I'd be up for new high quality Hellraiser based more strongly on the book and comics. I have to see if I can find the fifth one. I can't remember which one that was.

  • @Mad-Bassist
    @Mad-Bassist 2 года назад +1

    One little thing bugged me: "Butterball" didn't get properly sent back to hell. He's there in the next movie, but that was a continuity problem to me. Otherwise, perfect movie!
    It would be nice to get a director's cut, but there probably isn't enough extra material that fits, I don't know. At least we get to see a more complete "rip" of Frank in the next movie's flashback.
    Anyway, love your review--consider me subscribed!

    • @BloodbathAndBeyond
      @BloodbathAndBeyond  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! I was honestly curious about the Frank rip scene, really thought my version might have been edited or something because I had seen the better version of that scene before. This helps ease my mind that I was probably remembering the flashback. Thanks for that.

    Awesome I Remember Seeing This Film Back In 2009 While I Was Living With My Mom And My Older Brother My Old Neighborhood In Mount Vernon NY. Well From When My Mom Alive God Rest Her Soul. I Didn't Know Anything About Hellraiser In General Until 2009 And I Was Still In Mount Vernon Higb School At That Time in 2009 And I Was 17 And I Was Watching It In My Older Brothers Room In 2009 On My DVR From When We Had Direct TV . The First Time I've Heard Of This Film Is From That One Episode Of Billy And Mandy Called The Show That Dare Not Speak Its Name Cause That Episode Is An Actually Spoof This Franchise But Instead Of Pinhead He Was Called Pinface But Instead Of The Actual Pins Is Replaced With Bowling Pins And The Lament Configuration Was Bassically Rubix Cube. Speaking Of Lament Configuration There Was One Scene In Wish Master 3 Where You See Somewhat Of A Lament Configuration Has A Stone Inside Of It & Also The Lament Configuration Was Also Seen In One Episode Of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. But Aside Even Tho I Was Very Late With This Film And I Never Grew Up In The 80s And Didn't See This Film Till 2009. And Here Am I In My 20s & Young Still Liking It Like It Did When I Watched It back in 2009 But Aside Doug Bradley Sure Knows His Way Was The Master At Work And I Also Loved His Cameo In Scream Park. But Aside This Film Is Awesome.
