I moved to Dubai back in 2015 and was there for 2.5 years… it is an AMAZING place but I missed Canada too much and came back to Toronto in 2017! Have fun.

Good luck to you both ! Dubai is incredible, the best place I have ever visited .. Visit Dera market great food! In the hot weather the water parks are fantastic ! Just the feel in Dubai and the restaurants are amazing!
Lived & went to school in dubai. It was absolutely wonderful. The only downside is how hot it gets. I know my family comes to the uk at that time to get a respite from the heat. Also my husband & I do not share bathrooms at all. Best decision Ever 🤣
I think it’s super interesting to see how many people (especially influencers) are moving to the UAE. I have a lot of relatives that live in different regions of the Emirates and most of them are desperately trying to leave and emigrate. I can totally see the benefit of living there for a (finite) period of time for business purposes, to network and to enjoy the life style in general. But personally, I believe that most people will eventually move back to their home country. There are a lot of great things that come with living in Dubai but there are also a loooot of not so nice things. I don’t want to be too negative regarding your decision though and wish you a lot of success and fun living in the UAE!
Agreed I don’t live there but I did stay there for a while and it’s not a place to settle in. It’s mostly enjoyable if you’re rich if you’re not then you won’t get that Dubai experience you always see people marketing. However, with saying that I do know family friends who live there and say they are satisfied. I guess you really need to know Dubai to understand the ins and outs. Also really depends on the person. I much prefer living in Australia than Dubai. Not to mention they drive crazy over there lol. It’s basically like any other Middle East country (Lebanon, Iraq etc) just a rich version.

I’ll try to list a few things that I think are super important and not talked about enough :) - you have zero security or stability. I’m not talking about robberies etc. (UAE is super safe) but there is practically no way of getting a permanent residence permit. This means you have to renew your residence permit every few months; should your application be denied you’ll be given a very limited amount of time to pack your bags and leave the country. My friends‘ application was randomly denied and they were given a week to leave. It turned out it was due to a system malfunction and their residence permit was renewed after all but can you imagine the panic and stress of being told you have to pack up your whole life and find a new country to live in within seven days? - insurance is super expensive and keeps getting more expensive, but you also can’t get a residence permit without health care. I live in Germany though and health care/ insurance is super cheap here so my expectations might be too high. It’s not super problematic for younger people but for older people (esp. 60+) or people with chronic diseases this can be a real struggle. My aunt needed emergency surgery and they refused to perform the operation until they got the permission from insurance. She lay in pain for several hours waiting for the application to go through… - schools and daycare are super expensive. If you don’t have the Emirati citizenship (which is almost impossible to get) you aren’t allowed to send your children to public school. School and kindergarten tuition can easily accumulate to several thousand dollars a month (I wish I was joking) There are a lot of other cons I could list but I’m not sure what kind of information you’d be interested in 😅 you might notice that I’m in the minority that isn’t swept away by the glamour of the UAE… It’s great for taking a vacation or gaining work experience for a couple of years but (imo) definitely not long term arrangements

InshaAllah you make great memories there! ☺️ On a different note, I design custom millwork for our family business -Zen Fine Cabinetry- in Toronto and it’s true that the panelled fridges/appliances are not as common in Canada compared to Europe or other Eastern countries. We often deal with panel ready fridges but it’s almost only requested by custom home builders (not by the regular home owners). Those hidden appliance cabinets don’t cost anything extra but the panel ready appliances themselves are more expensive than a regular one. Maybe that’s why people don’t even consider getting their appliances hidden or maybe they just don’t know it’s an option as it’s not popular here🤷🏻♀️ Trends are a bit slow in Canada 😬

@@bece5013 hiya! Some good websites to find places would be bayut and propertyfinder, they have a pretty good range of places at all prices. I’d recommend looking for somewhere close to where you’d be working since traffic can be crazy here but some good areas would be Al barsha (where I live, close to Mall of emirates and a lot amenities), Dubai marina (good for a view but can get a lot of traffic) or somewhere like jvc or jvt - the further out of dubai you go the cheaper it gets, just depends on how much you’re willing to commute and how old/new you want the place to be. Hope this helps!

I know yall didn't ask but trust me you should know - the best breakfast in town is at Friends cafe in motor city and whoeever told you otherwise lied to you. Dubai is an amazing place and few people get to call it home, inshAllah it'll be for the best.
@@bece5013 it really depends on what you’re looking for (e.g. family so close to schools, or solo) if I was alone I’d probably live in JBR as a lot of places are walking distance like the beach and so is the metro and it’s pretty central. Downtown Dubai is also very nice, and very metropolitan. Make sure you see plenty of Dubai before deciding and best of luck on the move 💗

@@bece5013 hiya! Some good websites to find places would be bayut and propertyfinder, they have a pretty good range of places at all prices. I’d recommend looking for somewhere close to where you’d be working since traffic can be crazy here but some good areas would be Al barsha (where I live, close to Mall of emirates and a lot amenities), Dubai marina (good for a view but can get a lot of traffic) or somewhere like jvc or jvt - the further out of dubai you go the cheaper it gets, just depends on how much you’re willing to commute and how old/new you want the place to be. Hey guys!! Wish I was still in Dubai to show you around but after living there for ten years, finally decided to move out lol . I know yall didn't ask but trust me you should know - the best breakfast in town is at Friends cafe in motor city and whoeever told you otherwise lied to you. Dubai is an amazing place and few people get to call it home, inshAllah it'll be for the best.

@@bece5013 it really depends on what you’re looking for (e.g. family so close to schools, or solo) if I was alone I’d probably live in JBR as a lot of places are walking distance like the beach and so is the metro and it’s pretty central. Downtown Dubai is also very nice, and very metropolitan. Make sure you see plenty of Dubai before deciding and best of luck on the move 💗
