The "gimmicks" of the Life series definitely have been exponentially growing in their level of complexity. What once were simple plugins such as the boogeyman and the random number of lives, have now turned into mechanics big enough to be deemed mods, as evident from Wild Life and Secret Life. And the thing is, at this point the Life Series can't go back to being simple. The participants know how to play now, what strategies to employ. If the Life Series never changed from the way it was in Third Life, then I'd say all the seasons would be nigh-identical. These gimmicks are necessary for the new seasons to feel different and unique.
i think that gimmicks done well really enhance the experience. Double life was my favourite season by far, and the shared health gimmick was genius, forcing committed alliances (except for the divorse quartet that was interesting in their own rights) between otherise seperated players. The series has definitely moved away from being a competition and more towards being a social event, and I dont think thats such a bad thing, but there was something special about the drama in earlier seasons.
@@Copydog2686very true, I don’t dislike the recent series but I do miss the originality and simplicity of third life last life and double life I also really enjoyed limited life, but I feel like after it, there was a point where the series stopped becoming new to the creators and viewers so they were forced to come up with more complex mechanics to keep viewers entertained
I get you point. There is only so much Grian can do with the basic formula so now we have entered the semi-modded territorry. From what i have heard from martyn and grian. Grian never wants to do a second season , he always wants to change it up. He even said how viewers suggesting ideas for a new series actually makes it less likely for that idea to happen. Because Grian wants to make it his own thing. I would watch a second season of all of the iterations and the members would probably want to play it too. But in the end its up to the G man. Also my favorite was secret life. The only team up we had seen before was Skizz and Tango. Also the tasks made it as if there was a script to the whole thing since they pushed the players to a goal every episode. The warden vs wither fight episode was amazing. If it wasnt a task we would have never seen that. I do get why your favorite is 3rd life. Even without a script they pushed themselves in a specific direction to create an illusion of a story. A lot of epic scenes happened.. Battle of red desert, the trap in front of dogwarts and the final major battle at dogwarts. There was an epicness to the whole thing
I definitely see what you mean and I agree that the Life series is getting more chaotic each and every season. What I do think needs to be considered though is that the majority of the Life Series players can now be found on Hermitcraft which is much more Vanilla-centric so the Life Series is now probably their way of getting into the crazy aspect more rather than building etc
Excellent summary of everything I've been thinking about Life Series - the lack of concrete factions, the overwhelming gimmicks etc 3rd Life on top and long live the Red King
Whilst I kinda agree if you really want good stories just go watch a show or a movie lmao these series is just a group of friends having fun playing a video game
Idk man but secret life was my favorite, because i had so much more to watch. The secrets made me watch basically everyones episodes not like in other seasons where i just watched like 2 people and found out the winner to the series like months later😂. The warden vs wither and the boogie curse were very fun episodes.
problem with secret life is that it was a lot more scripted than the others, no scripted in that the players were acting, but scripted in that the task were. and if the task are scipted and the players have to follow the task... you get what i mean. all the others, including this last one at least let the players do whatever they want, but i will also say that wild life is also very centered in the wildcard and sometimes leaves nothing else to do to the players, depends on the week. with third, last, double and limited, it was up to the players to play, but these last two have been more centered on the gimmick im liking wild life a lot mind you, and i also liked secret, but i would love to see a more normal approach, (like third, last, or limited). mainly because after wild, and seeing how grian thinks that he needs to escalate the series more each time, soon is simply not going to be possible for him to escalate more and the series will simply end or become too centered in the gimmick, which i think is not the main appeal of these (for me the main appeal is the 3 lives, pvp red, factions and betrayal part that happened in the first ones)

This is honestly the first time I've heard someone else express these feelings I have for the development of the Life Series. 3rd Life was a great start and then Last Life pretty much just expanded everything about the first one. It just perfected the formula in my opinion. And then everything since then has just been 3rd Life with a Gimmick. While I still think Wild Life is great, I believe the series has gradually been declining in quality in MANY aspects and I don't know if they can achieve what they did with Third Life again unless they heavily simplify the gimmicks of the seasons

I AGREE!
3rd Life and Last Life are PEAK
Although doesn't mean I hate the new series, Secret Life is also incredible for me.
I 100% agree that 3rd Life was the best season!!

Last life was the best one out of all of them imo
