I would love a peace option that basically extends the truce significantly, but is like "Demilitarize border" which means all provinces bordering your territory lose 50% supply, don't contribute to force limit, and can't have forts. That way, you can keep someone like France from building 40 forts every 5y and effectively is like warning them at the same time.

You should try to play Lorraine, it is easier than it looks, since your initial Independence War Can be significantely facilited trough diplomacy (just bribe France into quitting the War with your allies territory) and then you can expand into the HRE, burgundy, and form Lotharingia. Yes, you Can.
Just so you know, you mentioned waiting for a second claim on Brabant to reduce AE, but tthat's a common misconception, claims don't actually reduce AE. They just reduce starting autonomy and allow you to not pay DIP for the province in the peace deal.

nooo laith you ALWAYS take political dynasties as your tier 2 reform for republics. The +1 random candidate bonus is a bit pointless but it gives you an extra option in the election event for a ruler that uses the regular random rolls for stats meaning you can almost always get one that's better than the standard options and takes fewer reelections to max out. Plus every time you reelect a guy you can check the political dynasties candidate's stats and he's sometimes better than you'd get by reelecting your current ruler, and since he costs way less republican tradition to elect him than reelect, that more than makes up for the +0.2 you'd get from picking republicanism. I think he also tends to be younger than the regular candidates too so you get to keep him for longer. Combine it with frequent elections and it's like getting a disinherit roll every 3 years where you get to check the new guy's stats first. Remember the republican tradition loss from reelecting is in proportion to the length of the term so it's not any harder to perpetually reelect with the shorter term. If anything it's actually easier because you'll almost always have a 6/6/6 so strengthening government is much more doable, and with political dynasties if you need more tradition you can just go through some elections with the regular candidates to roll a good PD candidate and build your tradition back up edit turns out the PD candidate actually has a pretty awful stat average compared to base monarchy heirs but I honestly never noticed because you get to reroll him so often and just pick him when he's actually good
how do you keep getting decent generals at the start of the game. I'm lucky when they have a pip that is not manoeuvre or siege. i always get a 1 manoeuvre general.

I dislike how in the new update the AI is building extra forts and is building them up to level 8. Late game sucks so much now. It makes sense for them to build it, but it takes so long to siege all those lvl 8 forts.
I see a lot of people struggling with the Dutch revolt but I don't know why, you just have to move your capital in the lowlands, even if it's expensive in mana points you'll be rich as hell, as you're principal node will be the manche one
