TOP SIGHTS of HELSINKI FINLAND - Walking Tour of The City!

- top sights of Helsinki
In this video we continue exploring the main city centre of Helsinki. Heading out from the Helsinki Cathedral, walking along the Esplanade and past Stockmanns - the largest department store in the Nordic countries. We walk through the iconic granite train station of Helsinki with it’s clock tower and torch bearer statues (complete with giant face masks during the global Covid19 pandemic).
We make our way over to Kansalaistori Square which is a modern and open space right outside the Central library building which is an incredible building filled with multiple levels and is open to the public. We spent a whole day during our time in Finland to work from their public work area within the library. After a quick coffee sitting in the sunshine we make our way across from Kansalaistori square and over to the Parliament building.
This city is so clean, modern and full of unique areas that we stumbled upon as we made our way over to the waterfront promenades along Eira, Ullanlinna & Kaivopuisto. We found a Moomin shop (The Moomins were originally written in Finland back in the 50’s) in a cute little tucked away area of shops and restaurants and made our way through the design district in Helsinki which is a cool part of the city. We fell in love with a little cafe there called ‘Relove’ which had amazing food and coffee on one side and a whole section of re-loved items for sale on the other. We came back to this shop a few times during our time in Helsinki too!

A British couple from just outside London, England. We got married in 2018 and decided instead of a honeymoon we’d travel the world together for a year. We saved money and travel points, quit our jobs, rented our house out and boarded a one way flight. We started this RUclips channel to share our experiences with friends, family and anyone who plans to travel to the places we’re visiting. We leave TKT tips/facts on our vlogs and blogs to give information that we wish we’d had before visiting. We hope you find our content useful :)

So many beautiful open spaces! 😀 Modern and old architecture in harmony with nature. Love Helsinki
It felt so spacious wandering around! ☺️
So happy that you showed our beautiful capital city how you saw it. Helsinki truly is a amazing, beautiful and green city which changes all the time for the better for it’s citizens and visitors.
Thanks and you are always welcome back 🥰
Thank you 😊 we had such a lovely time we extended to stay longer and explore a bit of nature too! We really want to come back in wintertime!
Gorgeous city! The architecture there is amazing and I love how easy it would be to cycle around there 😃
It’s a really great city for exploring with ease! 😊
Helsinki looks like a beautiful place!! What a walkable city. I especially loved seeing the modern garden. I think all cities should have something like that. You covered so much in your walk - Parliament looks beautiful, and loved all the statues and monuments you highlighted! What a great day! Also great drone shots as always too :)
It is walkable for sure! Great sights to see everywhere you look😊
I love your sunglasses 😎
Thanks! 😎
Such a beautiful day. This was a really nice tour of the city, how long did this whole walk take you guys?? I think my favorites were the Sibelius Monument, the Parliament House, and the location with the funky mounds. Also the drone shots of the marina at the end were perfecto! 👌🏼👌🏼
We were out all day and our legs were pretty tired when we got back😅 very pretty city to walk around though☺️
Yes, the Finnish version of Brexiters even have their own political party, they're called the Basic Finns. Which sums them up pretty well.
We just Googled it, can’t believe they’re actually called that 🙃
What a beautiful canvas he made in a short time and really dug the park. The city seems to do an incredible job of weaving things into beautiful old school architecture (including mcdonald's haha), in particular the train station reminded us a bit of a small Grand Central station inside, but the train waiting area was definitely nicer. We are definitely on the same page, love being by the water and that marina looked beautiful hope we can visit helsinki at some point ourselves.
Hope you guys visit one day it’s a beautiful city, we loved the train station it was so nicely done😊
You guys covered so much area on your walking tour! What a beautiful city - so many open spaces, parks, statues, and beautiful architecture. My favorite is the library, what a unique contemporary design and the interior is equally amazing. I can’t believe you have access to 3D printers...how cool! I also love how the statues on the exterior of the train station have masks on. And it’s great how you featured a local artist in this vlog. 🥰 Can’t wait until the next one. Is that a snake?? Omg you guys always run into the most interesting little critters. 😂
It’s a really great mix of old and modern within the city. We loved the library and the staff were super helpful too☺️
Yeh we thought the masks on the statues at the train station were an apt touch😅
We do tend to find some interesting critters you’re right, this one kind of found us though! 😬🐍 it was a shock!
Helsinki seems to be a beautiful city. I love the art truck idea. The Library has a beautiful piece of architecture. I love cities with trolleys. The harbor is gorgeous . Safe travels! "We just left the library and the big space where everyone is hanging out is called Casa Lansta Ore. Now we are standing in front of the glorious Parliament Building." Say that 10 times fast. Lol. Take care guys! :)
Really is a beautiful city but tricky to pronounce the names🤣
Hey guys. That city is so beautiful. The set up looks perfect for cycling and running. The parliament house is huge. We really want to visit Helsinki after watching this video. The weather also looked perfect. Love the marina 😁
You guys would love this city, it’s a great place to wander around and see all the amazing architecture! It’s so well set up and not too busy with traffic which we loved😊
@@TideKnotTravellers sounds awesome 😊 looking forward to the next one 🤗
I like that you include traditional sights as churches and statues.
Thank you ☺️
You guys covered so much in this video, seems like its quite compact and a lot to see in Helsinki! Can't believe the Polish student painted that in only 4 days! That'd take me forever haha. Lot's of cool statutes and monuments but i think my favorite was the Sibelius monument :) I know you werent sure what the people were picking of those crates but that urban garden concept was cool to see. Cheers! Safe travels!
We loved the urban garden concept too, wish we knew what people were picking from them though🙃
Guys, literally was watching Sky News this morning and saw Helsinki in the weather section and I was like man i want to go here to experience the cold 🤣
My goodness Helsinki looks so so beautiful. We definitely have to visit Finland specifically Helsinki. I've told Adam its on our bucket list. So many things to do there.
The architecture of the center library is absolutely awesome, so different and even more impressive inside.
Absolutely love all the buildings, the architecture is insane. The creative district really lived up to its name 😀 so cool!
Lovely video guys. The outtakes are always hilarious 🤣 😆
We definitely want to head back when it’s full winter to experience more of Finland😍
Looks a really great place - Cool shops, interesting library building & love the harbour - really look forward to seeing more! Oh those bloopers...🤣10th time lucky!?! No surprise Some of the names😲quite a mouthful!!!🤣
We were stood there a while with those bloopers😂
Fantastic painting! Love the shading of blue and the reflections of historic buildings on the water. I'd buy that.
Awesome how the Central Library is shaped like a ship. So striking. And the view of it from Parliament!
Oh, and I knew that song was familiar! LOL.
And yes...as that shack by the pond said...love wins.
It was really cool seeing the city scape there on a painting! The library building is really impressive we loved it😊
Helsinki seems to be such a great city with such a nice blending of new and old. The library was particularly awesome with the great co-working space and access to 3-D printers. Its nice to see all the activity going on in the squares as well as the nice bike lanes and green space.
It’s a very well thought out city 😊
I was dying of laughing at the end of the video!😂 wooow beautiful Helsinki!!!
It was a tricky one to say! 😂
@@TideKnotTravellers Parlament House! 🤣
Oooh I like his reindeer painting.. I think meeting friendly locals is one of the BEST reasons to travel. It seems that, when abroad, people are always incredibly kind and willing to help out. What a beautiful city and fun walking tour, guys! Ruth studied abroad in Finland for a semester and is constantly talking about trying to get us to go together some time. I would really love to go see it in person, we just haven't had the opportunity yet. That library is AWESOME. Public access to 3D printers?? So cool!
That’s so cool that Ruth did a semester there. We really wanted to stay longer but 2 weeks was all we could do this time. Hope you guys visit together in future, we definitely want to explore more of Finland outside of Helsinki too😊
@@TideKnotTravellers YES. She spent most of her time in Jyvaskyla and really got to see some awesome sights. Our life goal is to one day see the Northern Lights!! One Day.
We hope to come back and see the Northern lights too! 🤩 let’s hope one day soon the world allows us all to do these things😊
Thanks for this video. I used to live not far from 'Relove' coffee shop. I used to go to that same coffee shop but in that time was a different cafe-it had beautiful furniture and delicious donuts and coffee. I miss Finland so much. It's a wonderful country.
You’re welcome. What a great place to live nearby, we loved it and bought a few things from Relove that we still travel with. We love the calmness of Finland and the fresh nature.
So nice@@TideKnotTravellers
17:05 Why "KansalaisTHEORY"... its not theory.... its TORI... "Kansalaistori"
The word just would not come out 😂 We were saying 'tiori' adding in an extra 'i' ...we later realised its 'tori'
Ok that art student was so talented! Love seeing art like this 👌 You guys covered so much in this video it must have been a busy day. My feet hurt just watching it all 🤣 This was a great tour of Helsinki. The waterfront is lovely there and your drone shots are 🔥🔥🔥. I can't wait to tour this area myself one day!!
It was really cool seeing him parked up there each day with all his art in the Citroen for sale😊 we definitely got some steps in that day! Hope you visit there someday it’s such a clean and beautiful city🙂
Great video! Went many years ago in winter. Didn't see half of this. Did go ice skating though outside the church.
Thank you ☺️ Ice skating in Senate square sounds awesome!
You should've checked out the hipster area of Helsinki called Kallio. And old Olympic Village, Käpylä, too.
We'll definitely be back to see some more, we loved Helsinki and the surrounding areas.
It shouldn't be surprise seeing hi-technology in Finland. If you have used Nokia phones then you already had your glimpse of Finnish technology. :)
It was so impressive how accessible the technology is for everyone, we loved being able to make use of the library it has so much! 😊
Video clips are too short; but thanks, was born in Finland, now in Canada, wish I were back there; didn't see any littering as I think Finnish people respect the outdoors and cleanliness, unlike over here.
We especially loved the cleanliness in this part of the world, we plan to go back as unfortunately our trip got re routed but we definitely need to explore more of this corner of the world and the Finnish people.
"You said you had this." Take 35...take 52.. (As someone who has needed 17 takes before, we understand.)
"Just eat your biscuit."
🤣🤣 we laughed so much, Craig was just having one of ‘those’ moments!
Beautiful tour of Helsinki. We were in summer 2018 and had a great time.
Thank you, it is a great city, we loved it☺️
Very nice tour, i love it, have a nice week my friend! 💚✨
Very nice video and music! 👌 keep up your good work!👍
Thank you 😊
Great video my dear friend so nice of you God bless you stay safe
Thank you, you too! ☺️
Thanks to you my dear friend
5:39 that yellow frame again! 😆
Ahh yes! Good spot, Nat Geo everywhere we go ☺️
Wow, that's an awesome video guys. We have been to Helsinki like 10 years ago, an awesome place. Not cheap tho :p
It is a lovely city but yes you’re right definitely quite pricey!
We locals in Helsinki can always (try to) comfort ourselves: It's even more expensive in Oslo. And Reykjavik :D
@@mikrokupu yes Reykjavik is very expensive. We found Stavanger pretty expensive too but haven’t been to Oslo yet. Beautiful part of the world😊
@@TideKnotTravellers 😅
The place is so nice! Helsinki is such an amazing place! Thank you so much for sharing this! :)
Thanks for watching, it’s a lovely city☺️
I've watched the video several times and I'm still not sure if its the parliament government house building myself🤣🤣. pay back for river, stream, lake or pond!! Glad to see you're both well.
🤣🤣 yes it is!
Finland looks so awesome 😍
It is really awesome, we can’t wait to see more of it☺️
@@TideKnotTravellers I bet 💯💯💯
Does anybody understand that Finnish version of "Brexit" will be "Fixit".
nice walk in the city and Amazing place
Thanks. It is an amazing city☺️
At 13:10 you are actually standing on top of underground Amos Rex -art museum opened in 2018. You can see the roof windows.
Today there is 30 cm snow in Helsinki.
Ahh beautiful! ❄️
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
What a wonderful couple! ❤️🌷What is the lowest degree of Helsinki in winter?
We have President grave..even musicans..but you wewre there..
My father (now 79 years old) was involved in the construction of the Sibelius monument. He did the calculations of strength for the monument in the 1960's, when he worked as an intern for an structural design company, while finishing his studies at the Helsinki University of Technology. The monument weighs several tons, and someone had to calculate what kinds of structural loads there were going to be in the full scale version, and what kinds of welding seams were needed. Only a small scale model existed at that time.
That’s really cool! 😊
@@TideKnotTravellers That's what I thought when I heard this. My father only told me this a couple of years ago.
Lovely tour!
Thank you 😊
Totally enjoyed your Helsinki video. Subscribed and liked!!! You guys are great. Cheers from NY!!!
Thank you, we’re so glad you liked it and welcome! ☺️
Thanks for this concise and very informative video.I'm visiting Finland next summer and its helpful for me.
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy your trip!
Espinatz??? Can you spell please
To much selfies, I was more interested in informations about die City... sorry.
Would recommend a documentary style video, not a vlog. We make vlogs on our channel showing our experiences of a place.
😍🙏🏻 I can't wait
☺️
That fountain with the seals is where Finns go celebrate major sports voctories of the national teams, or some event like that. The temperature doesn't matter - only there has to be water. Many swimmers have liquid encouragement in their blood anyway, so they don't much mind the weather. Also 1st of may the university students put a student gap on the statue - it kinda declares the festivities start.
what brand of sneakers do you use to walk all day?
Since filming this we have switched to Sketchers because they’re so comfy as an everyday travel shoe👟
Thank you me and my wife are going to Helsinki in September looking forward to it from the Uk 🇬🇧
Enjoy! We loved the city and how clean and well thought out everything was! You'll have a lovely time, hope you make it out to the islands, they're beautiful!
@@TideKnotTravellers Thank you 🙏 we really enjoy watching your ventures. 🙂🇫🇮
too much museums churches and monuments..if you like it be my quest. there is much other to see in there hakaniemi market, west harbour market, kallio, pasila new trainstation/mall..all the way bublic transport there is something different. i recommend take 1 day regional ticket or 7 days how many days you want and you see a lot more normal life there not just tourist attractions what are kind of boring and expensive shops in those areas what you showd..there is so effective train, metro, bus, tram..try it what you find.
Try one of our other Finland videos, we have a few ☺️
@@TideKnotTravellers im just saying tell little pit about these neibourhoods..when tourist come expecting something but then terrified prices some center restaurants for example. If some tourist is watching these videos be responsible and tell true not just beautiful sights.
😀
Thank you for this helpful video, I’ll be in Helsinki on July 25. I subscribed to your channel, keep up the great content
Thank you and have a lovely time in Helsinki it is such a beautiful city!
Got to visit Finland 🇫🇮
It’s a really beautiful country! 😍
06:00 while you're at the Central Station, fancy a trip to Tampere, my mother's birthplace and to me personally the most beautiful city in the world. So much to see there, not that touristy and very close to nature. Greetings from Germany and keep up the great work. 🤙🏻
PS: Tampere also is a partner city of Tartu.
Ahh we so want to see more of Finland but were a bit limited on time. We’ll add Tampere to the list of cities to visit when we return (hopefully in wintertime) 😊
Wow! It looks so modern!
Does Finland resemble Estonia much only more rich and modern?
Yeh there are definitely similarities but on a grander scale and the trams look a bit more fancy in Helsinki that was something we noticed.
Finland looks More like other nordic countries, cuz Finland was never part of Soviet union.
14:19 this roughly says "here stood the graveyard where in 1710 in a span of 4 months 1185 citizens of helsinki were buried, when an extraneous horrible plague killed 2/3 of the population of helsinki. then some bible verse
we call it ruttopuisto or plague park :)
wow, that is crazy! 😮
