    What a unique toy/game....I'm sure a favourite of parents with those shrill beeps and alarms. 😂

      Really is. There's something magical about playing a toy like this in such good shape. It's like a little time machine sitting on the table.

    Loved this so much, I went out and got one myself on eBay. Thank you!
    Love these late 70s/early 80s Electronic board games, shame they don't really do cool stuff like this now, closest I've seen is a chess board with A.I. that moves the pieces itself.

      Larry, you're about the fourth person I know of who went straight to eBay after seeing these videos! Sorry to cost you money, but I'm confident you'll enjoy it! 💸

    Thanks for this Jon. It's been so long, I had actually forgotten how to play. I do remember only losing once ever. Accidentally woke the dragon WAY too soon.

      I've already beaten your record -- I've lost several times. 😝

    I remember seeing this in Toy’s R Us back in the, day but it didn’t look as interesting as you’ve shown it to be. I definitely would’ve purchased it if I saw a play through like you have here. Thanks.

    Such a great idea for a game. Also very pleased to see this style make a comeback on Kickstarter: Echo of the Predator. I ordered two, I'm so excited!

    I miss these games. Dark Tower was another great electronic board game.

      Love Dark Tower. We even picked it as one of the top Toys of GenX: ruclips.net/video/ceNnB0r_paI/видео.html

  • @gunpowderboardgames

    That's great and thanks for showing. I have an original Dark Tower which we still play today and love the old-school combination of electronics (with limited sound ha!) and board games. Be interesting to see how the advanced game plays:)

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  Год назад

      You bet. Return to Dark Tower is substantially different and plays much more like a simple D&D campaign around a board. Fun, but for different reasons.

    I bought this game back in the day, but ended up giving it to a buddy who really loved it. Wish I’d have hung on to it because I’d like to play it again.

      They're not that expensive to nab from eBay if you really miss it. I know a half dozen or so viewers reported in the comments and on Discord that they picked it up after seeing my videos.

      Hey, Anthony. I have infected a lot of viewers with the lust for a copy of this. I know about a half dozen who've pulled the trigger. Fortunately, it's not all that expensive or hard to find on the secondary market. Go for it! 😀

    What a great game. Played this with a friend that had one years ago. Years later, but still quite a while ago, I came across one in a thrift store for practically nothing, CIB. Got it home and it played for a few moves then died. Back then I had no clue why but now I'm assuming that it probably blew a cap or two. I still have it somewhere in one of the myriad of boxes laying about. I need to find it and see if it can be brought back to life again. I really miss this game now that you've reminded me of it. Had another friend that had Dark Tower. What a blast that was. I really wish I would have bought one of those back then because they're damn near impossible to find a functioning and complete copy now. Well, without coughing up a small fortune anyway.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  Год назад

      I've got two complete Dark Towers, and one working tower. The non-working one sits on my set behind me. 😀

      @@GenXGrownUp I'm quite envious. I remember fondly the three of us up in my buddy's attic playing that game on many occasions. We also played AD&D so it was something that we all took an instant liking to.

    Instructions indicate for one player after setting your spot you hit next turn, press the spot again, and then next turn twice to start. I have had a base in a dead end as well if you mean enclosed corridor.

    8:00 wtf dragon moves diagonally, but players can't... wonder what a video game of this with modern features would look like

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  2 года назад

      That's right. The dragon can move diagonally and ignore walls & doors. That's his trade-off for only moving one space while the heroes can move sometimes up to 8 spaces, but only cardinally.

    Whats funny is I had all the miniatures for this as a teen D&D nerd! If I remember correctly I traded to get the minis as the guy didn't care about the game😂. I remember painting the Dragon as a green dragon

  • @JaymeSplendid

    Ahh yes, the 80's and all of their electronic games of that era. Just like the Atari 2600, kids back then would waste a handful of minutes before being bored and switching to another game.
    Owning this game as a child, I could only play it for maybe 3 times in a row tops. Just like my knock off Electronic Battleship, which took more time setting up then it did to play due to the fact that not only did you have to place your ships traditionally, you had to program where each ship lay, tho you only had to input the first and last 'pip' per ship in order to let the computer know where your ships are and what type(size) of ship it was.
