    Don't forget that Canada now has a LAND border with Denmark, on Hans Island in between Ellesmere and Greenland. This was finally settled just recently. The story of the "Whiskey War" between Canada and Denmark is worth telling.

    Saying the archipelago was of no historical significance before the british arrived is wild. The Pre-Dorset people settled Baffin Island at least 5000 years ago, followed by the Dorset, followed by the Thule, followed by the Inuit. All of these groups had/have rich traditions and cultures.

    Not to be rude, just a little correction, when you circled Baffin, Victoria and Ellesmere Island at 3:58, you also circled Bylot, Stefansson and Axel Heiberg Islands along with them. No hate, I love your channel!

    If one travels just to the opposite side of the North Pole it could be argued that Canada in a sense has a border with Russia as well ( although not quite as contiguous as with the nations mentioned ). I think you folks would do well to charge transit fees for the NW passage ( don't let us in the US bully or schmooze our way out of it ). With substantial regulatory oversight, it might be a good thing to tap into the mineral and petroleum resources that abound there

    couple points
    1: You talk about the lack of an Artic Fleet, but don't even mention the fact of the Artic Patrol ship program that is taking steps to change. Since it has been in work for at least five years before you video you should have mention that.
    2: The idea of charging panama style fees for travel is a non starters not because of Russia, but because the US has already set a firm position that it is an international waterway.

    • @mrowniii
      @mrowniii Год назад +2

      It is not international waterway lol. International laws say it is 100% canadian even in between islands. USA have no word to say on our internal politics.

  • @greyjay9202
    @greyjay9202 Год назад +1

    Use it, or lose it. With China and Russia eager to exploit Canada's vast resources and new ice free waterways, Ottawa really has no choice. It must build more ice-capable patrol vessels, and make regular
    flyovers of sensitive border areas and navigable waters. Canada and the U.S. already have reciprocal patrol agreements, and those need to be expanded. As the Arctic nation with the most experience, Russia is ahead of the game. Its time for Canada and the U.S. to catch up.

    • @mrowniii
      @mrowniii Год назад +1

      😂😂😂 we already use it. Try to violate or sovereignty over Arctic and see how you become a brand new coral reefs and fish habitat.
