I agree with this one. My spouse is insane over politics. If he would just spend time with household needs, he would be much happier (and I would too). It's a distraction to avoid taking care of business in the home. My mother said my dad would have been a much happier man if he was never concerned about politics. We only get one vote and 99% of us don't have enough money to sway an election.

Both grandmothers used to tell me "what happens in the whitehouse is not nearly as important as what goes on in your house." She said this to me as a child and it stayed with me to this day. I've conquered many demons by using this type of advice. Thanks mema and nanny.

The government is not designed to make your life better. Its purpose is to provide an environment so YOU can make your life better.
Free education, Healthcare, housing and whatever gimmes government can hand out will still fail in the hands of an unmotivated poor decision-maker who takes no accountability.
Do I care that the government wants to do all of that? Deeply. Can I do anything but pray, support and vote for the opposition to that insanity, work hard, educate myself to make good decisions and admit to and learn from my own mistakes? Nope.
Dave’s comments on take care of yourself instead of blaming the congress is spot on. I made that change several years ago and have been more successful and happier since.

My dad was boy during Great Depression , so he shaped me to live by the words " We didn't have alot , but we had enough " And he was a teen off to WW2 , gone from family for 4 long years . Had Hoover, Roosevelt , Truman, Eisenhower , Kennedy, Johnson , Nixon . And never was one who followed any political party hell or high water . And now yes I take care of my small little simple world within my home as my dad . I can only change or control myself .

I explain this to my own “grown” family. “We have no control over what we see on the news, but we do have influence on our friends and family around us, so work on that.
Both of my parents were children during the depression we were lead as children by their example to get out and make something of yourself and do Not depend on others to do it for you!! I wore a badge for 26 years of my life with the Air Force and then a career with my local sheriff's office, my Mom helped my wife pin on my badge, she could not have been more proud, bragging to her friends how her youngest son was a law enforcement officer and I retired as one from the same agency!!! Now some of these people blame officers for their arrest and being taken to jail. We all know how that goes, they do not accept responsibility for their actions. It was never fun to arrest and book anyone into jail!! I did not go home bragging to my family about an arrest, instead I went back to work hoping that I would not have to take anyone to jail that day much less display or use my firearm!!! My parents never complained about their lack of money, they were well Loved and did the same with us. My maternal grandfather was a fireman, my Paternal grandfather was a Corrections officer, those job present a risk to your life and that work ethic was carried down to my children.
Reasoned, balanced, humane, disciplined. Dave is a great role model.
I'm a few years younger than Dave. I remember when people paid very little attention to politics. Only around election time. And then they got back to their families and personal lives.
And then, social media was invented.
This is exactly how i remember it too. Now people make their family, friends, and neighbors their enemies if they don’t have the same political beliefs.
I would argue that people not paying attention is part of how the divisiveness got so bad. A lot of people woke up 10 years ago and realized the country they thought they knew, and had left on autopilot for all those years, was gone.
I remember when politics were funny. We could laugh about Reagan, Clinton and Bush. It fell apart after that.
And along came CNN in the late 80s and the 24 hour news cycle was in our living room.

Things are strange right now. The US dollar is becoming less valuable because of inflation, but it's getting stronger compared to other currencies and things like gold and property. People are turning to the dollar because they think it's safer. I'm worried about my retirement savings losing value because of high inflation. Where else can we keep our money

As a young man i watched this at least five times, this is the type of insight and perspective i like to hear.
Luke I am a 67 year old man, I have lived through many presidents and love our nation, I am part of a set of parents that lived during the great depression, yet we were raised with love, respect and Rules. Failure to abide by those rules meant correction was coming your way!! I also loved this video, it was how my parents demanded us kids to be, if we fail it is our own fault not anyone else. I made arrests and every time there was denial and excuse and blame as to why they were going to jail, but it was Never their own fault!!!! I wore a badge for 26 years and even made arrests while part of the Air Force Security Police, but that was different, they admitted it was their own fault for going to jail!!!

As a democrat, fully agree with everything Dave said. We can and will debate on ideas all day long, but it seems a lot of people have lost the ability to civil and treat each other with respect. I'm reminded of John McCain pushing back on someone insulting Obama and saying "he's a decent family man with whom I happen to disagree with on fundamental issues". We need more of that and I'm convinced that 95% of people who vote feel that way, we just end up seeing the 5% of both sides on TV all day.

As a republican I think a lot of the problems we see boils down to personal values. Too much of people not being held accountable. That idea is the whole reason I have not liked Trump. Some republicans would say well you are a traitor or whatever. You don't have to be all or nothing you can choose whatever you want. Trump certainly should NEVER be put at risk of death or great bodily harm. Just like any politician should not be. We just live in a society that has gotten more and more divided, and less accountability. Crime right now is literally out of control. I have completely lost faith in the criminal justice system, and the idea that all people are equal. Because it's just not true when you look at what happens in the world. People in the US are supposed to be able to practice whatever religion they want, be able to own firearms, be safe, and follow the laws. When you see people like Trump who seem to play by a different rule book it makes me shake my head. I don't really care for Joe Biden's presidency as his term so far has been very underwhelming. At least Biden has some class though, and respects others. Trump has none, and only cares about himself. How people are duped by him and can't figure that out is beyond me. This election has hit an all time low for quality of candidates. I mean have we really fallen this far? Sad. My ideal candidate would be Condi Rice. She is well educated, intelligent, and has class.

I'm sorry to see so many people praising this response. Elections are important because they affect the direction of our nation. It's not about expecting the government to make our lives perfect. If we take a self-absorbed approach to only caring about what's going on in our personal lives and ignore our nation, we may look up one day and find ourselves living in a country we don't recognize. Freedom isn't free. All Americans should be concerned about (and involved with) what's happening with governing bodies at all levels (federal, state, and local) in our nation.

They certainly fought and struggled to bring the constitution to pass. It’s our responsibility to keep it. Our responsibility is to ourselves and our family. The level of anger being exhibited is not due to economic issues, the reason the anger has increased is because the issues being pushed have changed.
