Thanks, Jim. I was trying to figure out what to put in an empty spot, something unusual with fine, evergreen (blue?) texture that would contrast with strappy Eucomis leaves, glossy camellias and a course loquat shrub. This will be perfect. I ordered one online today. I missed all the spruces and firs in my garden when we moved south from the upper Midwest. But I planted a deodar cedar last year and I think it’s upgrade. It’s like a blue spruce - hemlock hybrid, but better. Very graceful and heat-hardy here in zone 8.
@@johnnybravo3612 it was a bonsai I started when I lived in Japan on Military orders, after 6years I had to move back to the US and I sadly wasn't allowed to bring back live plants. I have since started another one here in Texas that's 2 years old now and doing great.
This is a beautiful tree. I tried a large one after visiting a friend in Raleigh. It grew quickly but did not drain well. It died. I replaced with willow variegated bushes who love wet soil. Too bad for us so enjoy!!!!
Really looking forward to watching your gardens fill in. Where I live on Maryland's eastern shore, you might run into a smashed up car digging a big hole. Nothing is off the table here.!
Interesting how the plant grows. Thanks for that info! I can see how it creates that cascading effect. I’ve been considering this plant. Someone asked where to buy. I’ve seen them at Lowe’s, Pike Nurseries and local independent nurseries.
Hi Jim! I'm a huge fan!🌿⭐✨ Im Emmanuel Arce I have a channel called Ultimate Gardening! Im a young gardener im only 13! All my favorite garden influencers like you inspired me to get into the Garden Industry! Love your channel! I'm a small channel but we're growing slowly but surely! Also I work with a few companies including Southern Living Plant Collection! Thanks for the great videos and inspiring me to get into gardening! Happy Gardening!🌿⭐✨
I'm sure it'll be beautiful. However, are you not worried that it'll drop leaves/needles into the water feature? I don't know how that works with this conifer but I have a large conifer that just blankets everything with needles in the fall.
I love that plant. I will have to look for that one for my front garden. It’s beautiful. We don’t find many good conifers in my zone 8. Looking beautiful. How is your new pup? I haven’t seen her in a while. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
Can a southern magnolia not have a brown underside? Mine is basically as shiny as a southern magnolia, and the bottom is about the same color but tougher and not as shiny. The seller I bought it from insistently said it was a southern magnolia, but I’m really not sure. I think it may be a Sweetbay magnolia.
I'm in Apex, NC and haven't had any luck finding a local nursery that can get these, including a delivery service that shops about a dozen nurseries. They're saying they haven't seen this specimen in a couple years, but you got one. Know where I can find them? Thanks!
I see people plant the regular one and try to keep it a Christmas tree in their front yard then they neglect it for a couple years and it just jumps feet in size.
Will this grow in part shade? I am looking for blue color conifer to add under my pine trees that doesn't require much sun. I wish they have blue podocarpus for zone 7b, but they all are listed for zone 9 :(
Well it has an average life of around 600 to 700 years here in India Himalayan alps with height of around 200+ feet so place it where you won't find any problems.
glad I'm not the only one with container plants too long before planting so they get a bit gnarly - thanks Jim
I LOVE these and try to use them where ever I can in landscapes.
Look forward to seeing your water feature. 👍❤️😊
I really like that. We had a similar idea here with a weeping blue atlas cedar near a corner of the pool.
I would like to see updates on this in the future. Looks like a very beautiful cedar.

Cool tree! Going to look great weeping near the edge of a water feature.
Thank you for finding a unique plant for water feature! Love watching your informative videos for planting ideas.💡

Too cool I ordered one of these yesterday, along with a Peve Starfish Japanese maple.
I love and have Peves starfish too. Where’s yours from? Mine is from mr maple
Mine is also from the Maple brothers.

Ohhh it’s beautiful!
These make a great bonsai specimen too. I had one for 6 years and it was one of the easiest trees to keep as a bonsai.
What happened to it?

"Feelin' Blue" is appropriate today, temperatures in Northern NJ expected to be 25 tonight 😕
What are you planning on planting around the cedar?
I pla ted a REGUALR. One and in 5 years it went from 3 foot to 20 foot...it is the wo der of thr neighborhood...literally a topic
Yes, the regular deodar gets gigantic. One in my neighborhood close to a hundred feet tall.

Im curious why my feelin blue needles are turning brown
I just bought one. Out of curiosity what happened with your cedar.
I want one but I think there's a version that kinda grows vinelike. Not sure the name but its very unique and artlike.
✌😀🌿
These can be trained like that.
@@JimPutnam Oh, so it is this one. I'll be planting one some day, I love its look.

Exactly. Sold at Christmas as a perfectly sheared tree
Thanks for the video! Did you have to do any pruning on your cedar before planting? The one I bought has some what looks like dead branches.
Beautiful tree! Were you saying you wouldn't recommend emerald green arborvitae for zone 7b?

Great conifer..love anything blue. When is the water feature going in? Are you doing it yourself?
Yes, I'm going to install it. I hope this winter.

Where did u get.a.weeping one??
This one is pretty widely available. Probably your local garden center can order you one.
zone 9b-10
probably too warm?
Probably. A lot plants need chill hours in the winter
