My mixer and is in the same condition as I bought it because I haven't used it. I got the matching volume meter board new for about $150. Thanks for making such a long video as it will help me do more with mine. I will be back after I watch this video a few times.

Man… I found your channel in its inactive state but it’s so good. Its exactly the type of content i crave. Are you active on twitch or something, anything?😅

Plus I enjoy your personality and video production style a lot. It’s such a bummer.

@@Gear-Tube hey there. I get busy with my own album productions and it’s hard to keep up with the video stuff because it’s so time consuming. I’ll publish some more soon! I’m on Instagram under Landon Balk Thanks!

@@magicspiral I have been enjoying morbid euphoria from time to time, I dig the narrative you put around it with the RUclips video. Do you have any goals or a specific approach with your music? To me it’s a bit confusing to exist in this sea of other artists.

Looks like you need a couple patch bays. TT patch bays are amazing. One for ins and one for outs.

Not a bad thought. I have considered it. Likely will invest in the near future.

I went the DAW route nearly 10 years ago, but I have an Alesis ADAT from 1996, a Joe Meek British Channel, a Presonus stereo tube/line tube preamp, a SansAmp PSA rack amp sim, which some including me use it as an exciter, and other uses including of course using for guitar and bass, or on anything. The distortions come in many types, that and the EQs for the amp sim and the post EQ at the next stage, make the PSA rack very versatile, and under light distortion with higher treble and lower bass, it will sound analog-warmed, not obviously distorted. As a studio efx rack, it's subtle dirt which you use, unless you're using it as a full out distortion effect. And a stereo DBX rack compressor/limiter. My board is a Mackie 1608 from 1996, which has died recently; only the right master side works. I think if not for DAWs, by now my studio room may resemble yours by now. I have a Yamaha MT 4-track cassette from mid 90s which I still have and, incredibly, is in mint condition soundwise now, even after having it for like 25 years. I clean and demagnetize, so the routine maintenence must have kept it preserved. That 4-track is possibly the cleanest, widest freq range 4-track cassette ever made, and I remember the reviews for it back then raved about it. I even saw some article which declared that it sounds like a 1/4" reel machine; the frequency response is 18khz, so although that article may have been overly gushy, I ain't mad at them. On double speed, it's utterly clean, and even on single-speed, it still sounds 90% the way it does on double speed. Strangely, however, the only EQ onboard is a global multiband EQ, instead of being able to EQ each track independently. Once I got my right eyebrow surgically re-corrected to the "back down" postion as a result of unboxing then taking note of the fact that there was only one EQ, I found that the unit was immediately useful. It's surprising what you can do without sometimes. But after getting the Joe Meek EQ/compressor rack, it was better to have some way of dealing per channel. You've got a great setup. I heard "Pink Floyd", lol. Their best stuff are the albums prior to "Dark Side Of The Moon", especially "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", but most would disagree. I possibly have the condition of being to a minor degree an amusiac, because I simply cannot hear what most obviously hear when it comes to radio-safe, mainstream music. I know people who are very intelligent who yet "like all kinds of music", which, translated, means "I only listen to music that's played on the radio". I believe in being open-minded, and I've tried to derive any shred of anything interesting or intellectually stimulating from things like Pure Prairie League, Fleetwood Mac, Helen Reddy, etc, and, I promise you, I opened my mind as far as I could get it to go, having a mere 182 points of IQ going on to work with, but, although I applied myself fully, literally to the point of physical exhaustion, at the end I could eke no result whatever from any of the some dozen or more experiments of this sort which I undertook.

So when you route something to group 1-2 and pan hard left it’s sending it to group outs 1, 9 and 17 simultaneously then through the bus 1 fader on the desk?
Wicked set up man thanks for the vid I’m tryn get the 16 ch

I can rout the groups wherever I want them to go. My default setting is routing tracks 1-8 in order to groups 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7,8. The routing is continued in that fashion for tracks 9-17 and 18-24. Each stereo input is hard panned, and mono tracks are centered. I change settings if I'm recording to tape.

hello ! what do you think about the preamp and eg quality of this mixer ? thanks !

Preamp is nothing to write home about - especially if you’re looking for something with ultra low noise floor and the ability to get useable preamp overdrive.
The EQ is usable, but not clinical.
I use this board for virtually everything, and it’s been just fine, even if it’s not the cleanest sound. It has the ins and outs I need and it gets the job done.

Since the tape recorders ins and outs are routed via db25 to each group of 8 channels in the back, how are you recording the busses ?

    • @magicspiral

DB25 inputs are selectable to be direct or bus channel
