Never be afraid, ashamed or scared of how God made you with no make up and natural hair. I'm 100% natural 100% of the time with no shame. Girl, rock it, you are you
Jesus Lover same
Nappy is a negative term so that's one thing you should not teach others leave that in the USA
I'm nappy and proud. Most countries say nappy for diapers anyway.
LOVE hearing about your experiences in Spain! So glad that you had mainly positive experiences. I lived in Barcelona too and had the best time! I've subbed for more .. keep up the good work x
Omg, I lived in Andalucia (in Sevilla) as well back in 2013 for a semester. Best experience ever outside of dealing with my american counterparts as one of only two blk girls in our group. As you said Andalucians are mad chill and for the most part things tend to click with them in terms of race and other things you mentioned. Living in Korea is a entirely different monster for me. Not to say Spain is some type of racial utopia (cause it's not), but in comparison to here, it is. I just subscribed today and all of your videos are awesome. 잘했어요.^^
what a nice video! I am so moved by your positive experience
Omg girl, it hit when you said you were really nervous to be overweight, black and have natural hair in Spain 🤣😭 I’m moving to Barcelona is September and I realllllly need to hit the gym before I go 💀
Great video, thanks for sharing your experiences, much appreciated. Spain is on my list of travels
Me alegra siempre mucho ver que te llevaste una experiencia tan positiva de aquí. Me haces recobrar la esperanza en mi país.
:D
País o Provincia?
You're very well spoken! Thanks for sharing your experience. As a black Caribbean I've heard many racist tales from Spain and its nice to see someone else's perception. ♡
I love Spain. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Heeeyaaa!! I am mixed and I am from Andalucia :D all of this rings so true and your video was very informative. Keep them up and por favor haz mas videos en espanol! hasta luego, guapa ;)
+Felicity Martinez si quiero seguir en español. Pero me falta ideas🤔
you are quite amazing . So open ! Well done ..
Oh hi :) im really glad u enjoyed being here in Spain :) :) !! I honestly wanted to ask you a few questions if u dont mind , since my bestfriend is also black and as soon as she'll finish her physology studies at the university in her country she'll come here in Valencia next year bcs shes going to start working as a psychologyst . Is there any advices u could give her ? Btw loved ur video!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am about to spend 3 months in Spain. 1 in Malaga, 1 in Barcelona and then Madrid :)
Voice of Seven how was your experience personally?
I think staring is a thing everywhere that is not diverse, because here in Nigeria every race and even black Americans or foreign blacks who do not live in Africa get stared at HEAVILY. But it’s not a racist thing, it’s more of a wow we’re having tourists in Nigeria hurray. But some people would always want to scam them in shops, hotels, restaurants it’s soo annoying 🙄
Thanks for posting this video. I was just wondering how much time did you spend in/near Barcelona? I am looking into visiting.
Thank you so much for your beautiful insight. I was beginning to grow weary of ever visiting Spain /teaching there after watching a plethora of videos were black people had experienced negativity & racism . I can only pray that I too will have a positive experience when I visit. Now it's time to learn the language lol!
Could you do a video on how you found your various jobs in Spain and places you'd recommend looking? I'm living in Valencia and I feel like I still don't have a good grip on all the options that are out there. Love your vlogs btw I can definitely relate to a lot of the thing you say about Spanish people!
+Uwi O yes absolutely! give me a couple weeks and I shall!
What part in Andalusia did you live? I am going to Spain and not sure what parts to start looking but I have heard great things about Andalusia!
It would be really awesome if you could tell us how you went to Spain. Like did you do private tutoring while nannying, or just one at a time? Did you already have a job lined up when you got there?
+AjahKpop that can be done. #justwaitonit
Hey girl I'm going to Spain this summer and I'm worried about the hair thing. Do they got products and hair extensions that work for us?
I have been living in Spain for almost 10 years and they have shampoos, conditioners, masks, etc... for white people.
You just gave more information that i will consider the great possibility of hopefully going to 🇪🇸 spain sometime in the future just to relieve myself from the sensitive climate of racism here in America and to get to know how life is different being black or simply human in another part of the 🌎 world away from what i have always known as a life of existence here in 🇺🇸 America.once again you gave me a new fresh breath on life of the possibilities i can see in the future through education that will be my passport out of this country even as a middle aged brother in my 50s. Thank you
i hope you get a positive experience from here!
interesting videos! Just subscribed. I really enjoy learning about the black experience abroad. Y tambien, mas videos en espanol por favor!
+itsalexnotalice thanks for subscribing!
Amazing experiences, love that you stood up for yourself against that lady over the rental. Aside from that, pleased that you enjoyed Spain.
Hilarious.....about your first experience and how you responded to it... Lovely. That's how I would respond
Loved your experience. Just goes to show that there is a whole bunch of good people and a minority of not so good people. I guess my heart goes out to those who have to deal with those who don't know any better. Btw my Spaniard language exchange expressed the same amount of curiosity and I wasn't offended at all
+Julie Corday yeah I found it come from a place of genuine interest and not some weird commodification of my blackness. Good people are everywhere in every form.
puedes hacer mas videos en epanol?
+Mike d claro pero tengo pensar en una tema. Se me olvidó hacer este en español. Pues tengo que encontrar una tema.
why don't you talk about how you got your jobs, like what kind of visa were you in in Spain?, did you need a visa? how did you get to do au pair and teaching etc etc... also how did you make the transition from Spain to Korea.
+gizel brown I did! There's a video I did on how to live in Spain that discuses the various programs and how to get them.
Love to hear about your experience in Spain. Im from the north, from the basque country, but living in Madrid. The only thing I dont understand yet is the different perception about racism in Spain and the US. You think in US people are more racist than spaniards?
+Adrian San Roman I think there are prejudices everywhere. As a whole I had a great time in Spain. I know others less fortunate. No guns in Spain = no racial motivated violence. There's a ton of prejudices against Latin Americans, "gitanos" and Muslims. Nowhere is perfect but I enjoyed being black in Spain more so than being black in America. Not having a community that understands me was stressful though. Always being the only black girl, always having to speak for all black Americans. It was tiring at times.
+SomewhereAlways Tee
True. Each country has its History and its isssues. All of them should change and grow up yet.
Hi. Were you able to find another job besides nanny? Because I thought that the population did not let many blacks in other fields (I tried to give my CV at a university and no one would take it, despite my experience) besides cleaning, and family help.
Thanks for responding... ;)
Brownstone Res well for me due to not having a work visa I had to stick to teaching and nannying
Thanks for the info. Take care.
I love your pettiness!!!
LOL! I'm only petty on Tuesdays. :)
Hey! Last summer I travelled to Germany and Amsterdam and had a blast with my buddy. This summer I sporadically booked a trip to Barcelona and although my friend will be coming with me this summer, it will be 5 days after my arrival. I was wondering how receptive Spainish people (outside of Andalusia) were receptive to Black people, especially those with an "American" accent. I plan on being in Barcelona, Madrid, Ibiza and maybe now Andalusia (because of how great you've made it seem). Just wanted some feedback on these places and how locals tend to be with black foreigners from America?
p.s: I know everyone is diff and each interaction depends on who you meet and where you meet them ;)
We spaniards only care about the green color lol
I'm dying to leave NYC to start somewhere fresh in Europe can you give insights as to how to start over fresh
+shotelle beckles will do! Give me a couple weeks. I'm going to make a moving to Spain video.
+shotelle beckles btw I just posted the video on Friday about different ways to live in Spain.
Yes we stare! I live in Sweden and jezzzzzz there is so many beautiful people here and I stare. :D :D :D Happy that you had a good experience.
I think Spaniards are more welcoming and warm than the people from outside perceive them. Also, Spaniards receive a lot of racism in America (North and South) from people than never visited Spain, telling stories that happened 500 years ago. That's something that I perceive from Americans (continent). They care a lot for the race and they use it to categorize the people. Despite this, I cannot say there is no racism in Spain. There is always room for improvement, especially in younger people, to not associate social status with a skin tone
I wish I knew how to speak Spanish, and I'm supposed to be going for vacation in Spain next month :/
As a Hispanic, I sadly had a very bad time in Catalonia. For me the racism was real. But I’m so happy to hear you had a very positive experience!
Because Catalans hate everything that sounds Spanish, like southamericans. Visit other parts of Spain, you´ll notice the differences.
I'm so sorry for you! :(
I think I am going to Barcelona next year.
+Black7od take me with you!
+SomewhereAlways Tee vamanos!
She said "I berated this women in Spanish" lol she snapped
aca en Latinoamérica también hay discriminación. yo soy panamena morena mi cabello ed muy rizado vivi un tiempo en mejico y senti discreminacion
ctfu you aint ever see moesha 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
+Tamyra Yancey I'm saying. Braids aren't new😂😂😂
I visited catalonia once , beautiful place
+Zoeyw1 Yes i loved it!
Racism exists in Spain. Some older people are racist against "black" people (most of them are ilegal immigrants), arabs/muslims (the historical invasion), gipsies (they have different costumes, some spanish people don't consider them "very spainish") and romanians (they are postrayed as poor and thieves).
The easiest way of watching a racist scene in Spain is going to the doctor. Some old people complaining out loud to themselves about how "satured the health system is because of immigrants".
The second easiest way of listening to racist comments is watching us talking about job. We are on a economical crisis, so, the idea of "immigrants are stealing my job" increased.
Ok, about you hair. we tend to like curls and volume, it's historical.
Don't be surprised.
DuskSunDawn
Wow, that sounds like Donald Trump hahaah
Germans say the same thing about "immigrants stealing our jobs" here in Germany too LOl
+DuskSunDawn, the vast majority of Romanians we know here are also gypsies, who have fled Romania in the direction of Western Europe.
Nice to see you've had a good experience here. I think that's because you have been lucky and also, yo seem to be a extremely open minded person, the kind of person that don't divide the world into black/white, male/female, contrymen/foreigners and so on. So, you get yourself welcome in a natural way.
Of course, at first sight most of us tend to think of you as a black person in my opinion (I hate the word "Afroamerican"; in my language it implies that you think there's something wrong about being a black person), but more often than not, we think about it as a sheer feature, just as being blod, tall or brown-eyed. As we listen to you, we think about the person who is talking : "well, she has something interesting to tell, she has a good point about the place I live in, etc).
But there's something about these comments tha haunts me: the only comments I see arond coming from American people are from black (or different shades of black) people. Where are the rest of your countryfellows? She has something interesting to tell you about the country. None of you has nothing to say or to ask? I'd be pleased if someone could explain that fact to me, because I am really curious about it.
Thanks.
+Pantalla good point. Sadly non-blacks have a tendency to tune out once a Black person speaks on their race.
unless they are the ones dominating the conversation
In Spain it is not a question of racism but of behavior. If you are African American you shouldn't have a problem but if you say you are Latin American yes, this is due to bad experiences due to the behavior of some Latinos (not all) "innocent para for the guilty
In Spain there are not strong stereotipes about black people, but "we" are hardly racist with Gypsy people and Romanian immigrants.... and you wil maybe find a classist disgusting racism directed to South-America people (sorry, poor English XD)
A note! Spaniards consider them selfs white!!
Juan Perez I think they are, because last time I check Spanish people are! Oh, Hispanics, 80% are descendants of Spanish people, and other European whites!
More or less
We are a mixed bag
Windy sage even americans have some african and native blood theyre still white. Noone is 100%..infact white americans are probably more mixed than many euros.
Yea, tbh in considered as a white Hispanic in the US. My mom and dad are Puerto Rican, but my dad is Spaniard descent, and my mom is black descent, but my great grandfather is a native Spaniard. But I do considered myself white.
Juan Perez they are white people just like any other European
Did you get tapas?
Currently black in Spain studying abroad
+Tyler B LIVE IT UP!!!! And please drink a tinto de verano for me!!!
Dope.
What are the Spanish men like ?🤔🧐
great review lol love Spain however I but I prefer Portugal more lol
+Zoeyw1 I only spent a few days in southern Portugal. It was nice but southern Spain has my heart💗
Well, not american accent, but maybe you catch here a little bit of "acento andalú" ;)
It's because she's an old woman, ya know?
wow hold on, you can't say a kid got shot and just move on!! Where was this, in spain???
Kevine Wetshokonda I knew it's late but she refers to one kid who was shot by the police in USA for carrying a fake gun. They thought it was a real gun and shot him.
A mí no me gusta que me llamen blanca,White.
Hah!!!!
