But aren't there just two loops here? Your effect is in one or the other unless it is in front of this box. So between my guitar and the amp is things similar to his loop 1. Then I use the effects loop of the amp to have all the time and mod stuff and my looper. I like those fancy switchers that can have eight or so loops that can be programmed to link in various ways and orders. Those would be handy for a performing musician, which I am not so I just go with my two chains of effects. I could maybe use a buffer in one or both of the chains but I'm not there yet.
EQD has got to be the best, most innovative pedal company out there, I love it. Also, apart from the great demo, your playing is outstanding, I love the sounds you created during the video ! Thanks a lot !
Buffers! Yes! Buffered tuner out, buffered A/B amp sends, buffered loops! They help! Finally people are starting to come around on the idea that buffers are beneficial for guitarists! I've been so sick of the hearing the "true bypass is the ONLY way to go" snobs for the past 10+ years.
Maxon Mendel That’s only true with digital pedals with no analog dry out. A buffer is an analog device that’s just reducing capacitance from long cable runs. No digital processing is involved in a buffer.
Such an excellent showcase of this seemingly complicated box. Definitely looked at it and thought “wow, that looks very complicated”. Turns out it’s pretty easy to grasp thanks to the thorough demo. Thanks!
Hey Cory, phenomenal job on this demo. I thought you did a tremendous job showcasing what this thing can potentially do! Mine will arrive tomorrow, I'm very excited. The fact that I'm willing to spend over $200 on something that will slightly improve my signal says a lot about how much i believe in EarthQuaker Devices. Stoked!
This pedal might be the solution to my pedalboard problems but I have a question: i usually run my modulation and time based pedals into the fx loop of my orange head so I can also use the high gain section of the amp. That being said, how can I run loop 2 of the Swiss thing (with all the modulation and delays and reverbs) into the fx loop of the amp?
where should i put a boss synthesizer if i have a swiss things? i have it going guitar->synth into the instrument input. should i use it as my first pedal in the unbuffered loop?
Hi i got 2 brand new swiss things and both have signal coming out of OUT B even if it is muted... I tried with active pickups first, then with passive pickups it's less apparent but when i activate the boost switch it passes a bit of signal through the OUT B, enough so that i hear it clearly. Any ideas ??!
This is honestly an incredible tool. My first pedal from you guys. I’m blown away by the stellar wiring, it makes all my other pedals sound better. Thank you for the amazing work. Im so happy with this product I’m buying a dispatch master right now! ❤
Putting your mod/time effects in your amp(s) effects loop(s) would be problematic with this, right? Is there a simple solution for this? Am I missing something obvious?
What would you do in regards to a looper pedal? Where should I plug that in so that it works properly? Or is it impossible to function with the Swiss Things?
Hi TJ. You would connect output A to the input of your amp. You can then use the output B foot-switch as a mute control, and always have the option to easily connect a second amp if you get one at a later time.
@Earthquaker Devices... I suppose you're running straight through the front of the amps? I don't see how it would be possible to use this in an fx loop.. ?
Although it is possible to use Swiss Things in your amp's effects loop, this utility pedal is designed to be placed before your amp's input in the signal chain. Check out www.earthquakerdevices.com/swiss-things for all the specs and our usage recommendations. Thanks for your interest and have a great day!
Very cool, but how would it work exactly in a typical Metal setup? I get my distortion sounds from my amp(s). I can’t really use these loopers to go from Dirty channel with my OD to a clean channel with delay, reverb and octaver, right? Also my octaver is always used on conjunction with my reverb and delay for ambient sounds. An octaver can can be used in loop 2 I assume? And my noise gate and OD (which is used for tone only, no real gain) should then be placed before the Swiss Things, correct? All in all it seems like a great product and I am looking into a 2 amp setup, but I would really like to be able to switch from heavy distortion sounds that come from my amps to a clean ambient passage on the go.
Im soooo confused! Got one, I have a big board. Without the Swiss I get very little to no noise. Even stacking OD/Ds pedals. Today I hooked it up and did the loops 1 for gain pedals. 2 for modulations. And THIS THING! Add so much noise I thought I had a different board. Really I’m not bashing it. Not sure why it adds so much noise to my signal. Spent all day trying to make it work and no. I take it out of my signal and noise is gone. I add the pedal and the noise is there. 😅 best part is NO ONE online has the same experience everyone has a great one with this pedal. Why not me? 🤨
Not sure if you still answer Qs. But I just run an EVH combo amp my tone loss is driving me nuts. In the effects loop I go to Tremolo, Chorus, Delay, Reverb. In front I have Whammy 5, Wah, Phase 90 and distortion. I get tone suck from the chorus (fx loop) and the whammy (front) the worst. Does a Swiss Things make sense of only one of the loops is buffered? Thanks!
Finally the solution for what I was waiting for 🖤 I already did preorder :) Can you confirm what expression/volume pedal you are using in the video please? Thank you and hugs from Chile :)
Question. Where would my buffered Boss distortion, Overdrive, and Fuzz go? Even a buffeted time based effect. Thanks in advance, as I believe this could be my solution.
Swiss Things can't make you do anything, but you could put all of those things in one effects loop on Swiss Things and bring them all into your signal path with one push. But you would have to push the Wah also unless you use it in a fixed position. Is this a trick question?
Could I use the tuner out as a signal splitter and run a second pedal boars from that signal. Then run that second pedal board signal back into the swissthings effects loop 2 to control it withbthe switch? I was thinking this might create a noise loop. If not, i'm buying this thing asap
Angeleno Californian guitarist detectable Dale was in renowned Swiss progressive rock band Flame Dream. I am extremely proud to have inspired EQD by my longtime love of all things Swiss and so they named it “Swiss Things”.
your pedals are always on within the loop, which has Flexi-switching, allowing you to choose between momentary or standard latching operation. The switch style of the loop determines how the pedals within the loop are brought into the signal path.
It would depend on what your set up is like honestly. Before or after Swiss Things is where I would suggest depending on what you are trying to achieve
It almost looks like you have to be seated in order to maximize the functions of this. I'll still buy one though because it's seems really useful & it's EQD.
Hi EQD! Two questions. 1) how would you run a stereo pedal into the loops to maintain the stereo output? 2) Where would a compressor pedal sit in this chain? Thanks you guys are awesome. Edit:. Maybe my questions were answered but I'm at work and couldn't fully listen, sorry in advance.
Could the volume pedal be used as an attenuator for a cranked amp since there no signal loss? Also does this all mean you don’t use the effect loop in the amp and just go direct from Swiss things to the front of the amp or does it go in the effects loop return?
Oh wow this looks great. I use 2 amps and this looks awesome. And the pedal board is the tidiest pedal board I have ever seen - you should do a "how to build THIS board" guide.
Just judging by his riffage, Cory and I would probably be best friends IRL. Just sayin'. I want this thing! I have a G2, but it's just too much, and too bulky for what I need these days.
I just got one of these and the crappy part about loop 2 is that it kills my delay trails when disengaged. Would be nice if there was a switch or button (even inside) to allow for this functionality.
Earthquaker Devices... What power supply are you using for this pedal board? I know the "Pyramids" runs at 450 ma. And the "Avalanche Run", if I remember correctly. Are they powered separately from the other pedals? The only power supply that I've seen that could run these is the Strymon that can handle 500 ma.
Yes, you can absolutely use the fx loop on your amp with separate effects while using Swiss Things placed before your amp's input. The pedals within the loops of Swiss Things will just be before your preamp in signal order.
Well you could go before swiss things. Or after swiss things if you want it to filter the whole set up . You could put it in loop 1 if you want to be able to take it out of the chain.
I tried, with 2 different pedal expression, but none is working. I tried a simple volume pedal : ernie ball jr volume pedal : does'nt work, and the Boss FV-500-H expression and volume pedal and it's still not working. Are you sure it work with ANY expression pedal ? I'm using the expression output from the pedal bosss FV-500 H to the ouput exp pedal of the swiss thing but doing nothing there. Can you help me please ?
This is exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking about all the pedals I'd need for my board: a buffer pedal, an AB switch, a boost pedal, and some way to handle stereo. Now, I don't need to do any of that, because this pedal does all of those and more.
This is either misleading or GROUNDBREAKING. So you can use the Swiss Things on any pedal to transform that pedals switch INTO A MOMENTARY SWITCH? Its what SEEMS to be happening at 8:32.
Basically it works like any switcher except that their switcher has flexi-switches. So you are momentarily turning on loop A, loop B, or both, but not flexi switching individual pedals. For that it would need to be a 8-10 loop switcher, not 2. I imagine they will go that way sometime in the future if this pedal takes off like it should.
Would this allow me to run stereo pedals truly in stereo and still have an A/B box? Most A/B boxes, even the expensive ones, won't let me make full use of my Empress Echosystem's two separate delay engines into two separate amps - they just have your whole board as one signal split between two amps.
The signal will indeed be in series and split between two amps. You will have to place a true stereo pedal after Swiss Things and use both outputs for true stereo use.
As a bassist with a pedalboard filled with 12 pedals. I don't do an awful lot of tap dancing, so adding a large multi loop switcher seemed impractical and would need a bigger board to fit it. The swiss things is just right for how I would utilize it without expanding my board size. I just purchased mine today. 😎
Just for clarity: is “capacitance” being used correctly? My understanding is that a capacitor on your guitar’s volume pot is to save tone (not suck it) when the volume is rolled off. Mind you it is wired in parallel... can anybody clear this up? While I get how a long cable might have some resistance, I didn’t realize conductors have an inherent capacitance...
Thanks Elijah! Yes, capacitance is being used correctly. The cap for your guitar’s tone pot only contributes to your sound (by removing treble frequencies) once you lower the pot. When the pot is wide open, it has no effect. Capacitance cumulates along cables at around 40pF per foot!
I have a holy grail that I leave on always on my board. I was thinking of putting it in the a/b loop so it can always be on regardless of whether I'm using loop 1 or 2. This won't affect my setup negatively? Any input is appreciated!
A and B are outputs, not an effects loop. You can place it after output A or B. The buffers in Swiss Things may or may not affect your holy grail's sound in a way that you can notice. I think you will be alright though!
Can I send output A and output B to additional pedal, than to a Y pedal (like the new JHS summing amp) in order to get up to 4 loop? I'd rather compromise the two amp capabilities in order to have additional loops, as far as my pedalboard is actually composed. Thanks!
output A and output B are already in a Y configuration for you. After the outputs of Swiss Things you can take those signals and send them wherever you want. You can definitely have pedals after the outputs. Contact info@earthquakerdevices.com if you have any further questions, thanks.
I'm trying to get a Noise gate to work in my setup, but can't get it to gate properly regardless of setting. I run it in lloop1 with 5 drive pedals. And it's the Revv G8 using it with the G8s internal Loop to gate the drive pedals. I never see anything with the Swissthings and a gate involved. I've had my Swissthings for a couple years now.
Hello, Really like the concept! Might get one for myself. I just have a question. In case loop 1 is NOT engaged and i am using an overdrive on my signal chain, then i engage loop 1, what happens to my overdrive? Does it turn off, and the other pedal switch on? And how do i program which pedals switch with loops engaged?
you put pedals in the loops where you want, and turn them on. then you step on the loop switches to engage the pedals in the loops. Nothing automatically turns off. Your OD would stay on unless you physically turned it off. You can't program anything. You would be adding the sound of the pedal or pedals in loop 1 to your OD sound if your OD was already on. If you put your OD in loop 1 and some other pedals in loop 2, you would control all of your pedals directly from Swiss Things. Hope this helps, and I hope I understood your question correctly.
Swiss Things keeps you sounding great! How are YOU using Swiss Things?
If you want to use your tube amp distortion with this item can u run a cable from behind the head ? I’m using a peavey 6505 mh
I’m trying to activate the overdrive only when I press the head distortion foot switch
I'm just imagining myself play one. It's the best I can do at the moment
This thing is great 👍 You can add a ABY box into loop 2 for a wet dry rig, awesome 👌
Hey EQD! Help me please. Where to put the looper in the chain? Thx in advance!
just to be clear, the swiss things DOES come with two Dr. Z heads and 2 matching cabs, right?
And a PRS

But aren't there just two loops here? Your effect is in one or the other unless it is in front of this box. So between my guitar and the amp is things similar to his loop 1. It is what it is, and its great. It will be here when you need it.
This is no good for stereo pedals right?
you can use stereo pedals after swiss things by using and activating both of the outputs.

Maxon Mendel That’s only true with digital pedals with no analog dry out. A buffer is an analog device that’s just reducing capacitance from long cable runs. No digital processing is involved in a buffer.
Pretty versatile even with just two bypass loops. Hits the sweet spot between ordinary bypass loopers and MIDI-based systems.

Even a buffeted time based effect.

Swiss Things can't make you do anything, but you could put all of those things in one effects loop on Swiss Things and bring them all into your signal path with one push. But you would have to push the Wah also unless you use it in a fixed position. Is this a trick question?
Looks cool as shit.

Its gonna be great! Thanks for the support
Capacitance cumulates along cables at around 40pF per foot!
this could be used to make a great Wet/Dry rig....one question where would a say a ditto looper sit if you are running wet/dry?
both loops will be directed to both amp outputs. A looper works well after one output if you only want it going to one amp.
Ehy dude, what's happen if I put an ernie ball expression ambient delay into the Swiss things volume expression pedal output? Tank's a lot. Enrico

Hi Charles, we can provide tech assistance any time here: earthquakerdevices.com/contact Thank you for your support and have a great week!
Hello,
Really like the concept!
