  • Welcome to Australia's newest coal mine, the Pembroke Resources Olive Downs Complex. But this isn't any coal... It's steelmaking coal, a critical resource for humanity.
    If you've ever used electronics, cars, or buildings, you've used steel. It has been and will continue to be one of humanity's most essential resources. And to make it, you need iron ore and steelmaking coal!
    Pembroke has spent a decade ensuring their new mine not only meets Australian standards, but serves as an example for mining worldwide.
    I've never had access to a large-scale mining operation like this, and Olive Downs Complex is by far one of the finest mining operations I've seen.
    To learn more about Pembroke, check out their website below!

    its interesting where they chose to put in all the new tech
    the semi autonomous/remote drill rigs seem pretty great, not sure how i feel about the haul trucks being driverless though
    incredibly surprised that the rail line for the processing plant is electrified, we dont have much electrified railways in australia so its nice to see
    nice that theyre using electric drive haultrucks though, even on their own theyre a pretty significant reduction in diesel usage. its a hell of a lot more reduction if you use a trolley assist system but its unfortunately quite tricky to have such a static piece of infrastructure in a mine pit
    burying the waste coal dust seems questionable though right? seems like as a fine powder it would be very easy for it to contaminate waterways

    • @AaronWitt
      @AaronWitt  Месяц назад +3

      They’re placing the fines where they mined the coal from originally. It’s deep. Won’t affect waterways on the surface

    • @BeachhouseTerrigal
      @BeachhouseTerrigal Месяц назад +1

      This mine uses the latest approach. Most mines dump them in a hole and fill it with water. A tailings dam. This puts them back exactly where they came from encapsulated and safe. This mine has zero impact on groundwater.

    • @FreakyPete
      @FreakyPete Месяц назад

      Couple of points to clarify. Trolley assist is usually applied to older, deep pits where the haul cycle can be significantly reduced with overhead power. This is a new, shallow pit.
      Burying waste (ie anything with no economic value) back inside the pit outline is the most efficient and best method of disposal. It reduces waste haukage costs and reduces final landform rehabilitation costs.
      Cheers.

    • @ronblack7870
      @ronblack7870 Месяц назад

      seems weird to me as i know power plants pulverize their coal into a fine powder and them blow it into the steam furnace. so why they can't use the fine stuff . unless it has dirt mixed into it,. and the buried dust isn't going to go anywhere

    How do the trucks know when and where to reverse under the digger? Does the digger call the trucks in when he wants one?

    • @markstischer
      @markstischer 29 дней назад +3

      The digger operator can make a spot point or two depending on the dig from his screen in the digger.
      As the bench advances the spot points will naturally move and the digger operator will move the spot point.
      Along with the floor changing the digger resurveys the area to ensure the virtual mine is kept updated.

    • @Harry_Gersack
      @Harry_Gersack Месяц назад

      Yeah but coal is much lighter than rocks. And they also need the trucks to transport the top soil and transport the waste back into the pit.
      And he also said they fill one 10 000t train every day. Which would come out to a much lower number of tons of coking coal per hour:
      10 000t / 24h = 417 t/h
      Considering they have the fine waste and the heating coal I think the math is mathing.
      Dump in 800t/h of raw material and get
      400t/h of coking coal
      +240t/h of heating coal

      As issues arise in truck, mine control are aware from remote. If there is any issues/ breakdowns the truck will either derate or stop where it depending upon the severity of the issue.
      In regards to fuelling, the trucks run 24hrs without requiring fuel (approx 4000l capacity). There is fuel area. The truck enters area and stops until the truck is called in by the serviceman. It arrives at a station point (stopping point) where the truck can be switched from autonomous to manual. Then turned off.

  • @jm1835
    @jm1835 Месяц назад +3

    Autonomous mining is still not as efficient as regular mining. Rain often hinders the operation, sometimes completely shutting it down. The trucks are overall slower and if one of them gets stuck, again it hinders the entire operation. Most existing mines around Australia have stated no intentions to transition to fully autonomous, I imagine it will only make sense in new mining projects

    21 autonomous trucks = at least 42 fewer operator personnel with pay & benefits at around $100k each = at least $2.1m+ saved in personnel costs. As AI and autonomous works continues to grow, more and more ppl will lose jobs. Food for thought…

There is no solidity in your videos or you do not make videos after practicing so that people have maximum information about mining and people can understand mining in a better way. Information is one thing and deep information is another. It is not visible in your videos. There is only light information. That is why you will have to make videos with more deep knowledge.
