I had the extreme good fortune to be the display pilot for the SAAF Museum Spitfire Mk IX, back in 1999/2000. Dave summed it up nicely, you get a very distinct light buffet on the stick near the stall, she is a viceless aeroplane, gentle in a stall for a high performance fighter, she’s easier to fly than a T6 (or Harvard)! His comment on feeling part of a team, you and the Spitfire, is very true. It is no surprise combat pilots loved the aircraft. The aircraft seems to communicate with you in flight. The only thing I was surprised about was he didn’t seem to check the landing gear locking pins chains, up in the wheel wells. These are little bicycle type chains and they rotate the landing gear locking pins for locking the gear up and down. If these are not in good condition, you will have problems. Especially if the gear was up and you can’t rotate that locking pin, because of chain failure. Nothing will get that gear down. Otherwise, he’s a lucky man!
Back in ww2 when they pre flight checked these planes I bet they had to do it speedily which could cause somtning to not be checked and the plane could crash.
Very interesting. This chap would make a very good instructor if he's not one already.. But vee in germany have also zis type of airplane. It was called 109G by zer Willie Messescmidt and 190 or zer 'butcher' von Fucking Wulf.
Do you know what prop came on this bird? I'm trying to find some cross sections to model the prop. I found everything for the fuselage but nothing for the prop.
The airfoil is Clark Y. There's a book called Spitfire IX & XVI Engineered which is available in PDF form online that has full plans for the propeller.

Love that Spitfire. Helped to push it back from the fuel pumps at GLIAS. Also had a beer with Dave at the end of the day. Great pilot and great guy.
Saw this beauty at the Abbotsford International Airshow. What a stunner!
Thank you, Dave Hadfield.
Hadfield, like Chris Hadfield ? Damn.
Very good shape condition, she is in perfect care!
Thank You for showing how you should conduct the pre-flight inspection. A magnificent plane that deserved so well during the Second World War.
I went to Oshkosh Wisconsin in 2018 it was a blast and we flew to New York to Wisconsin
Great film and briefing on the Spitfire.
Thanks so much Mr.Dave.
Super cool! Loved it! Very informative.

@@blockheadgreen_ ok thanks!👍
oleo sits at 8.5" ?
18:27 so you have the text over the plane whilst it's flying? Really stupid that.
Brilliant stuff otherwise.
RELAX !
