@@Nessurrz it's not as much as her "evolution", I'm not arguing whether or not she's better off now. I'm just saying that the music she used to make versus what she sings now was waaay more soothing and soulful imho.
I don't really think that many people can remake this song...but she killed it. Smooth, very unique, and soothing. I don't think that it's a comparison to Rose Royce at all. It's Beyonce's remake to yesteryear and in my opinion it's a great one.

I was just listening to the original. It is eery and a little otherworldly. In the 70s everything had the kinda galaxy otherworldly feel. Or as a child I thought so.

People be so proud to express that they aren’t fans or “big” fans. Not enough to just post their sentiments.
Being a singer myself and someone that sings covers of original songs often, it's a bit irritating when someone says "Oh its nothing like the original" or "So and so did it better". The whole point of a cover is just that - A COVER. It's a cover of an original song not always intended to sound exactly like the original which, lets face it, it's never going to. It's a cover version of an original song in the covering singer's own style and voice. That is all it is intended to be. I wish more people understood this and just enjoyed a cover of a great song for what it's meant to be, which again, just a cover. With that being said I absolutely love this cover by Beyonce! xoxo

It doesn't have to sound like the original but the vocal should be as good as the original which this one isn't. It's sung in tune but the tone and dynamics are dead compared to the original by Rose Royce. Also the production and backing track is pretty bland as well.

Here’s a thought: How about, there are songs... and different singers / musicians give their rendition of those songs. And people prefer on rendition to other renditions. Why is it invalid for someone to say that “so and so did it better” (i.e. “I prefer the rendition by person X”)? Someone may not prefer your rendition of a song. You’re not entitled to people liking your rendition.
Great Song, add one good voice and let the words say it all. No distractions.

I think it’s better than the original by Rose Royce-a 70s R&B soul group from a Los Angeles with lead vocal by Gwen Dickey. This song made me follow Beyoncé as a singer.
