  • In episode three of the Scotland Diaries, Erik and Alexandra head south to play Machrihanish Golf Club. Not to be confused with Machrihanish Dunes, this course was designed by Charles Hunter in 1876. Although it was originally constructed as a twelve hole track, Old Tom Morris expanded the Club three years later to a full eighteen holes. Morris’ expansion of the course is highlighted by the first hole, which is often known as the best opening hole in the world. Upon arrival, Erik and Alexandra are greeted by Club Captain, William Ross. Ross, who has been at the club for almost 40 years, offers up a challenge aimed at making the famous first hole even more interesting. Tune in as Erik and Alexandra duel it out on the links, battling both the course layout and the wind throughout their round.
