  • I passed this viaduct so many times and even rode over it on my bike without realising how huge it actually is. Three million white fire bricks and everyone of them placed by hand! Built to move limestone from Stanhope to Consett.

    Another beautiful video!
For each of your videos that I watch I gain more knowledge about an area that I’ve been walking or cycling past for over three decades !
Excellent work and many thanks 👍

Thanks Tony, they are getting more and more difficult to make with the CAA making more and more restricting rules.

Been up to it from the Stanefordam but not under it nor on it. Not been to the quarries and not likely too now. This is a real treat. Awesome things those drones.

Thanks William, glad you enjoyed the video. The old quarry was really interesting, I did my best to capture it but pictures are never the same as actually being there. I have two drones now and I love flying them, then there's shooting video and then editing them for RUclips - good job I'm retired!

Judging from the graffiti it's been very popular over the years. Nice to hear from someone who was there, thanks for watching.

Thanks Kim. It has a very sad history of suicides, which explains the fence, although one woman even climbed over that! It's an amazing structure, I've driven past it for years, even been over it a few times on my bike (it's now part of the coast to coast cycle route), in all those times I never realised what an incredible structure it is until I was standing below it. A local lady told me that there are arches under the ground too and she is right, there are arches below the centre five!

@@assessorjohn I always watch your video more than once and I noticed how lovely the reflection of the blue sky was in that still water on the way to the viaduct....👍
