I just test drove one and wanted to see if my thoughts lined up. You hit everything on the nose. The base engine is amazing. The torque is so instant it’s actually unbelievable. The seats are some of the absolute best seats I’ve ever sat in. The Macan is least expensive Porsche but it’s definitely still a Porsche and it’s amazing. Truly wowed.

Beautiful vehicle. Back seat legroom looks very tight though. Guess it’s fine if you don’t have rear passengers very often

If you are used to driving an average Asian or American car and you step up to the base, Porsche Macan, you will definitely feel a substantial difference. Expecting a crossover to be on par with a sports sports car is a little silly but having driven the S model I will say that out of every SUV and crossover I’ve driven, Macan feels the closest to a sports car but is an amazing daily driver that is fun to drive

Hi Ben, I love your example of cups. 😊
I however treat all my cars like the chalices 😂
I had a 22 X3 30i then traded for 40i.. I would say BMW has more HP and Tech. The build quality on my 19 Macan S is amazing down to the paint. I have a 23 Venza and only 3k miles
I have ppf and ceramic coating but still had a rock chip the paint- love Toyota but cheap paint lol
The Macan has 1 rock chip in 4 years no ceramic or ppf. ( yet).
I definitely think Porsche is a bit expensive but it depends on what you prefer. I would never own a German of any brand out of warranty. Being that most of my Lexus/ Toyota models have made it past 200k miles.. I stick with those in the long run, but enjoy the Germans in the short term.
    Great review thanks!

It's a beautiful looking car I'm just not sure if I can justify to myself/wife the huge diff in price between the similar sized BMW/Audi/AMG/Lexus etc. 🤷‍♂️

I like your analogy comparing a plastic cup vs. chalice. I think hands down you can't compare Porsche quality and drive to other brands. Just higher tier. Personally, I want to see if i prefer the S vs. GTS.

Plus the 911 GTS in what looks like _Nato Olive Green_ PTS around the 6:23 mark.
I always wondered what a Porsche version of Plum Crazy Purple would look like on a 718 GT4 (Non-RS) or a 911. The closest color match would have to be the PTS Violametallic (4VN) which is still darker and less exuberant for lack of a better word.
      Nevertheless, you have exquisite taste!

$78,000 for that car is outlandish. I'm so sick of the Porsche Fanboys. Audi chassis, engine, trans, and electronics. Fit and finish is average at best. Piano black is cheap. The car is slow and has crap handling. I paid $63,000 for a new 2017 Macan S. I traded it in for a Lexus RC-F so don't tell me I can't afford it. The Macan is average at best and the 4 cylinder is straight trash. I'm so sick of the Porsche Kool Aid they're not that good.

Going from a Porsche to a Lexus is unequivocally a step _down._
      Porsche = 911 & Cayman. • [End of discussion.] •
Everything else in the Porsche lineup is merely for filler. It's no secret that the Macan and the Cayenne are the two models that account for the highest profit margins within the company. They keep Porsche afloat while the true enthusiast cars remain the mid-engine Cayman/Boxster platform and the ubiquitous 911.
IMHO, Lexus is merely an overpriced Toyota bathed in digital wizardry. There is absolutely no soul or passion behind Toyota/Lexus products (with the rare exception for the LFA). Not to mention, the Lexus exterior designs have started to resemble a vacuum cleaner. The same can be said about the Supra but I digress.
Although, I must say that the LFA sounds _amazing_ in-person! However, the drive felt like one of those old wind-up toy cars that you had to drag backwards on the wheels before releasing it, as it shot forward with some random trajectory. You also knew that you were driving something that was truly unique, especially for Lexus.
In the end, it matters not what the public thinks. As long as you enjoy your car, Salim. After all...

The PDK was designed, developed and is built by Porsche. The four cylinder in this model is the VAG EA888 which is in a lot of Audi and Volkswagen vehicles. Many parts are shared with VAG models. However, Porsche does have its own dampers and suspension tune.
Porsches are spendy, sure, but nothing else seems to have as much thought and attention given to the details. I think it’s because Porsche keeps developing models as they age. Toyota, er Lexus, has an excellent initial design phase but either slowly develops or jumps to the next iteration and neglects the current model. It’s a different approach but I believe that Porsche has a better process overall.
I’ve been around both Lexus and Porsche. Porsche requires more maintenance and generally costs more but they move like nothing else. Lexus is a very comfortable low maintenance vehicle. You probably won’t get to know the Lexus service manager as well!
It comes down to preference and priorities.

@@BertShackleford I disagree. I feel Porsche is cheap Euro trash. People of European background love to say it’s superior because it’s German. This is where the fallacy begins and ends for me. I don’t look up to Europeans at all for anything. If you want to be a part of the Euro cult, I understand. But I don’t want to be in your little club. I’m a leader not a follower. Enjoy your repair bills, cheap interior, and thin paint.

@@salimrandall Cheap Euro trash my ass!. Sorry but having owned Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus, and Range Rover, none of them come close to Porsche for drivier involvement and driving pleasure. Clearly something unimportant Lexus owners. The cabin, whether you think it dated or not (I don't), is a much more pleasant place to be than any of the aforementioined. I would never go back to any of them apart from maybe another Z3M Coupe as weekender.
