Started this almost 2 years ago now if you remember me, and I never finished it, but I've been pretty annoyed that i play it and don't know the rest, so i am going to learn the rest now, and am going to start picking back up with this piece to finally finish it, ill keep updating here every once and a while, and i et you know once ive finished, thanks you the great tutorials, haven't found any better tutorials, you make it so easy to understand. Thanks!
@@KeyboardSkillsPro Alright, I can now play this whole part 3, but towards the end of part 3, I get slow with it so I am going to practice it a bit more until I can get it at a good speed, and then I will move to part 4 to finish this up, once again, thanks for the great tutorials, and ill see you in part 4!

I presume you smashed your left index finger and have a subungual hematoma. If you didn’t smash it you need to get it checked out to make sure not melanoma. I quit playing when my son was 7 (he is now 27) as he was being classically trained and it very much discouraged him that I could play by ear. My career took over my life and I am only now just getting back into it. I learned Maple Leaf Rag 25 years ago but it was so much easier learning again with your tutorial. I plan on learning other pieces from you. Thanks so much.
Do you use your whole arm for the jumps? I leave my elbow next to my side and swing my elbow left to right for the jumps. Im wondering if thats why i have tension when playing.
@KeyboardSkillsPro the C section for example. Those big jumps is where I start to feel tension when playing the piece. The very last section I'm already super fatigued and just drop my hands
I have a lot of trouble with keeping my hands relaxed when playing this piece. I've learned most of it and am polishing it but it aches my left hand. Do you have any tips for this?
Hand aches can be your muscles working out - like going to a gym :) It will get better in time, but be careful not to over play. Warm up first for a few mins each session with some scales / arpeggios or some simple started pieces. ------- If you enjoy my videos, please support my channel: www.Patreon.com/keyboardskillspro
Please confirm LH chord in the Trio (Db section) bar 11. From the keyboard view you appear to be playing Bb Db Gb but the score says Bb Eb Gb. Beginner here. Have I got this wrong? Thanks.
Interesting, when you jump into the chords with the left hand, what is the advantage to playing the root note with the ring finger as opposed to the pinky? I’d been playing it the other way, but maybe yours is better, hmm.. 🤔
When playing low octave notes in left hand, you can try using the ring finger for the black keys, pinky for white. Advantage is that your ring finger is longer which fits with the black keys being a bit farther away from you. But it is indeed mostly a personal choice.
Glad you're enjoying learning this piece, Penny :) Thanks for watching - Tom ---------------------------------- If you enjoy my videos, please support my channel: www.patreon.com/keyboardskillspro
Thank you for an excellent tutorial. At 11:15 you seem to play a Db in bar 65 (5th note). I thought it was a C in the music. Is it my eyes, or am I reading the music wrong? :-)
Thanks - quite possibly a slip or variation from the glare of the lights and camera :) ----------------------------------- If you enjoy my channel please consider supporting it: www.patreon.com/keyboardskillspro
Knew the whole song but didn’t play it for a year or so and some reason forgot the end to this section. Thanks for the refresh!
You’re welcome - enjoy MLR!

I had bashed my finger at that time :(

It depends on how far you need to jump!
Keep your arms loose, comfortable whilst maintaining control
@KeyboardSkillsPro the C section for example. Those big jumps is where I start to feel tension when playing the piece. The very last section I'm already super fatigued and just drop my hands
Thanx!

Great tutorial! Very well explained!
Sorry to be that person though....at 7:00...the chord is supposed to be E flat minor (not g flat major as played)
Thanks....glad you enjoyed the video.
A bit of artistic licence I think :)
I'd say it's a voicing for Eb min 7 (Db instead of Eb), which fits the piece.
I have a lot of trouble with keeping my hands relaxed when playing this piece. I've learned most of it and am polishing it but it aches my left hand. Do you have any tips for this?

It is Bb Eb Gb in the score - I may have added a Db during my trying to speak and play at the same time!
Thanks
Tom
Why is this noted as Trio??? What does it mean? I can’t find it anywhere. Is there supposed to be three hands? Three pianos?
It depends either this is printed on your score.
A ‘Trio’ is usually the third strain and contrasts with the rest of the piece (usually a march).
Interesting, when you jump into the chords with the left hand, what is the advantage to playing the root note with the ring finger as opposed to the pinky? I’d been playing it the other way, but maybe yours is better, hmm.. 🤔
Thanks for watching David - all fingering is personal choice. I think after playing for 30 or so years, which ever finger gets there first wins!
Tom

Always was the hardest part for me (the trio) but my favorite.
Glad you're enjoying learning this piece, Penny :)

I was wondering if prt 4 os harder cus this is my limit and i wanna know if its worth tryin prt 4
For sure give it a try Joshua! Good luck!
Tom
Joshua Braithwaite I found part four quite easy compared to part 3.
My keyboard melody sounds different to this for the first few bars so confusing me. But this is the best tutorial I've found so far.
Glad it helped! Perhaps your music copy is an arrangement?
@@KeyboardSkillsPro No it's from and authentic Scott Joplin album and matches your copy exactly. Probably just me not getting the rhythm just right.
This is definitely the hardest part of the song
Yes the jumps on some of the left hand chords take some practice for sure

Not only the eyes, in the first place the ears.
The C is the appropriate note here, isn't it?
The people are ready!!! For part 4 lol
It’s coming! Tom
I actually think this is the hardest part even harder than prt 4...
Yes it has its challenges :)
Good luck
