As much as I love that piece, it’s not really a cello sonata. It’s more like a piano sonata with an obligatory cello. For every note the cello plays, the piano plays like 8 it’s not even funny.
@@mostafa12890 everyone always tells me that when I mention this piece. I get it, the piano plays a lot lol. But the cello part is still absolutely ungodly beautiful and amazing as a stand-alone.
I'm not a cellist, but I always thought the Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante was the most difficult (though I guess technically not a concerto if it's not called that?)
I'm a violinist and i confirm that my first concert that i've studied was the Vivaldi's concert in A minor. It was beautiful and after i studied the Bach's Concert in A minor.
Their both brutal. As a violinist I'd say the hardest is trying not to tense up. My neck left shoulder and forearm is in pain. I'm not cellist but it seems you all able to sit down with ease.
Thumb is on fire because of octaves. Bow is pronated so hard the entire time that it’s hard to relax and simply use your natural weight. Yeah both are tough to stay relaxed. Altho optimally a great player can stay relaxed in both scenarios
I'd argue that the Mendelssohn violin concerto is the most famous violin concerto. I think almost everyone have heard the opening of it. I think the same goes for Vivaldi's "Spring" from the four seasons.
I’d argue that everyone has heard Tchaikovsky from rehearsal A, and difficulty, and I wouldn’t consider Mendelssohn concerto to be one of the romantic giants, in both difficulty and scale
Great video, just some notes For the first concerto violin students play, I'd put Oskar Rieding's violin concerto in B Minor. Apart from that, for the "Most Beautiful Pieces" section, I wouldn't put The Swan or Franck's sonata although that's purely subjective.
I think he refers to the basic repertoire of a good violinist. Bruch and Mendelssohn are at the bottom of the well known violin concertos. But I also don’t think that Mendelssohn is the first, I would say Bruch. It’s just easier to execute whereas Mendelssohn will sound very bad when you don’t get the gist of it
even tho i am a cellist/bassist i would argue that haydn c is most comprable to mozart vln concerto 3 in g, even the emotion is similar (correct me if you disagree) also mendellson is probs more similar to something like elgar e minor, as it is more muscally complex and is learned later down the line
@@Leon-or4yk Mendelssohn is 100% not a student concerto, but it's definitely one of the "easier" concerto's. I definitely agree although this list is mainly standard rep so Ligeti wouldn't fit at all. For unaccompanied solo, I would also say that something like Sciarrino's 6 caprices or Cage's Freeman Etudes would be the most difficult. But it is a mainstream rep list.

Cutting off the Dvorak concerto before the orchestra came back in was downright criminal
It hurt my cello heart. Thats one of the most epic moments of the Dvorak Cello Concerto TUT.
Same treatment for Tchaïkovski's tho
