- Plaintiffs’ attorney Chris Mattei criticized Alex Jones’ use of cryptocurrency donations he receives through his Infowars website. “In a number of donations, eight million dollars in bitcoin was donated through this page to you personally, correct?” Mattei asked Jones, who said it was closer to nine million. “You cashed out about five million of that?”

I don’t understand how they expect him to answer yes or no to questions that have other context related to that. But the lawyer can make it sound like whatever he wants with a yes or no question. What happens when you give a lawyer Viagra? They get taller.

It's how the legal system works. It's biased, the entire court system is opinion based. They solely rely on a judge ( at the end of the day A PERSON ) to decide whether something is "object-able", for the lack of a better term. Simply put, a person can't be "excused" from their biases. The written laws aren't very meticulous when it comes to legal verbiage. They can and will be interpreted in many ways. This is why lawyers study case law, they can misinterpret laws to their advantage. The point I am trying to get across is, when you have massive cases like these, a simple "yes" or "no", from my perspective/understanding, could actually change the notion of laws in topic. Events from this case most likely will be brought up in future court rooms in a case law sense. The outcome of 1 single judge's opinion could change how a law is used.
So why does a cross-examination demand yes or no questions? You've got me, and probably a lot of legal professionals. They have their excuses ;).
PS: There has never been true justice amongst humans, and there never will be. ( it's in our nature )

Because people aren't companies (well, unless the company is a pass-through llc, which info wars is assuredly not). It would be like if you tipped the wait staff at a restaurant, then the manager took all the tips every night and doled it out to his staff. Even if said manager was entirely fair and no waiter lost money in the process, it's still just not how you run a business and could carry penalties.

Why would you think that donating on the infowars website would be donating directly to him? I would expect any donation would go to the company (from which he would of course get some share of), and it's not hard to have a crypto wallet designated as for the company so it would never have to go to his private wallet.

Since it's Alex's company so why wouldn't he control the money that went into his personal account and company's account?
This sending of crypto money sounds like any fund me account to support the person or business.
The problem comes in when - the donations in crypto is to fund "info wars" and, Alex is clearly using the money for his own spending. This is why the Lawyer wants Alex jones to state that he didn't end up with the money in his personal possession. If the Lawyer can get Alex to say that he didn't use any money for himself, Alex would be caught in a lie. To clarify, the money was for Alex's business (info wars) and not for his own personal use, so if he was using it for himself, he would be lying about where the funds were going to go.
Individuals and businesses operate under different laws. Tax dodgers and embezzlers like to blur the line between the two.
