  • We're in the Savannah River, where we see the Savannah Bar Pilot and his apprentice as they work with the captain and crew of this container ship to safely navigate the vessel out of her berth in the Port of Savannah, down the river, into the Tybee Road, and eventually into the Atlantic Ocean. Out of respect for the crew, I can't divulge which ship this was. Enjoy the view, especially as we go from day into night. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome.

Awesome at night. Such concentration. I guess the ship's nationality. :-) Please tell me, the pilot uses Left and Right instead of Port and Starboard? Some do and some don't in the US? Post more clips please? I;ve seen another in daylight. Best wishes from Australia. :-)

In the US merchant marine, "left" and "right" are used for rudder commands to avoid confusion. Some US pilots on foreign flagged ships will use "port" and "starboard".
