I understand there is a trail in the Cinque Terre region. It connects the old towns and travels on the cliffs over looking the sea. Others have tried but the videos are of poor quality or they can't resist turning the camera on themselves and talking away. Of course any part of Italy is wonderful!! Thank you so much!
Great Video, it's almost puts me back there having walked the same route just last week. You are obviously fit as I must have stopped several times but the temp was 39° c Italy having a heatwave at the time. Thank-you for taking the time to do this, I'm sure it will help people understand better the Volcano as, not everyone can do this. Grazie.
man, you are my Hero! This is one-off "walk", more of a "runnin' to the top",leaving em all behind.... with such a clean image view!! Thank you again, you are the greatest, this movie proves it....your Pompeii Ruins are yet another proof....keep walking, man!!! Don't ever stop!
Yeah, it is kind of funny to watch this one in fast forward. I tend to walk pretty fast. :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I am working in several new videos and am heading out on new walks all the time. Right now I am back in the US so I did Seattle and then heading to Vancouver BC and then to San Francisco. Thanks a lot for keeping the original sound!! It feels like I am right there, something I won't be able to do. Wonderful walk, I did not know that you could go up the Vesuvius.

Thanks! Yeah, at the time I was still focused on making "treadmill" videos so I didn't want to pause too much or go too slow. I've changed my approach now a bit.
Beautiful! Vesuvius is so historical. I love to read Pliny the Younger's account when it blew in AD79. Geologists claim that it will become active and blow again sometime in the future.
Yeah, it's amazing how important Pliny's account was of the eruption. What he witnessed was so insane that many refused to believe it for years to come.
Beautiful video of your hike on Mount Vesuvius, was in Naples this fall wanted to go but had no more time left of my vacation, so this video really made me feel as if I went there myself, thank you so much for an excellent video!!! :)
In one of the below comments I believe you offered to accept suggestions where you could go for a great walk elsewhere in Italy. It would bring back great memories if you could go to Val d'Aosta at Valnontey and walk up the steep trail to the Rifugio Vittorio Sella. Stupendous views of mountains and valleys. The uphill walk lasted three hours for me but you'll likely manage to reach in just one hour. The trail continues beyond and higher, but it was too much. I was 23 years old, while today I am 60! Thank you. Luigi
I was scheduled to go on this tour but cancelled because of bad weather. I'm glad I cancelled I didn't know the hike up thew volcano was that steep and long. Great video, thanks for posting.
Vesuvius is safe for a walk. If something about the volcano will change, they will surely close it off to the visitor way before it erupts. I walked on Vesuvius and unlike many dormant volcanoes, it doesn't smell (I've read somewhere that volcanoes might smell). It was during my school years, and there was a guy that tried to make Vesuvius erupt :D
Hey, that's great! I just uploaded a new Vesuvius hike to my channel last night.....same one as this video, but filmed this August. The video will be posted in a week or two. Are you spending a day in each place? You can do Herculaneum and Mt. Vesuvius in one day but I would recommend spending a whole day at Pompeii.
Hey, Thanks Dave. Yeah the weather is finally nice here. I went up to Rome a few weeks ago and shot the rest of the video. The whole thing is almost 15 miles and 6 hours long. I should be able to finish it tonight...then it will take another day to get it exported and posted up. It is going to be a huge file to upload.
ProWalks honestly I can't wait for the new video, but I do understand the whole process can be tedius, these walks have given a new life to my love for italy,by the way I am Humaira,Dave is my husband ,I am on his tablet..
Hi there - I am visiting Naples soon and am going to climb up Mount Vesuvius, but I can't decide which trail to hike up (there are 11 trails), and was wondering which trail this is? Since you can see Mt Somma at 2:27, is this trail number 3, "Mount Somma", which lasts five and a half hours?
Thanks! It is not too long of a walk really. I don't remember if I stopped to take a break or not.....maybe I stopped to change a camera battery, but for the most park, it took as long as it shows in the video, about 20 minutes. I was walking pretty fast though. :)
There was some steam pouring out while I was there. I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it up there because of all the recent fires but the roads were all open.
I repeat all that everyone said on here and thank you for pointing out Pompeii, even though one couldn't see anything one can imagine that pyroclastic flow running down the mountain straight for Pompeii and Herculaneum. I can't even imagine the horror!
I have trekked a few hills in my country, India but never trekked a valcano hill. You have done a good job in reaching the top in one go overtaking everyone but still maintaining a steady pace. Only lava rocks, everywhere and no tree to take a shade under. I don't think the path goes round the crater. Is it allowed to step into the crater? What is the length of the road and the height of the hill? What was the temperature when you trekkrd? May i know the equipment and the camera you used? Thank u for rare coverage.
@@ProWalks I was a child there in the 1960's. The chairlift was decommissioned in the early 1980's. The funicular was destroyed in the 1944 eruption. Those large cable anchors seen at 17:00 might be part of the old funicular, or they might be part of the old chairlift. Not sure.

Yeah, when I made this video I was still in the mindset of making treadmill videos so I was trying to walk fast....and I walk fast in general. I've had to learn to walk slower in my newer walks. So when you go to Vesuvius, you park along the side of the road about a half-mile down hill from where I started the walk. You can park and walk up or take a shuttle van for a few euro. I've walked back down to my car before but it is definitely worth paying a few euro to take the van up. You can spend as much time as you'd like. You just have to wait for the next available shuttle van when it's time to leave but they arrive every 10 to 15 minutes. It is a pretty easy day. There are other hikes you can take in the area but so far I've only walked up to the crater.
